Character Build Recommendations

Hello everyone and welcome to the NEW Build Recommendations Thread. I created this one simply for ease of use as the old thread was getting very large and unwieldy to use.  Otherwise it serves the same purpose as the old thread.

Please use The Character Build Archives to find commonly sought out playstyles and builds.

This is a place where people can ask for suggestions of new builds to play - hopefully it'll spread awareness of some which have got lost under the weight of numbers, and save us from having to rifle through everything when looking for a new character build to play.

This is NOT for asking for help with your own builds. Please post in the Character Building Help Desk if you need such assistance.  Or you could post a rough draft of the build over in the Workshop and ask for feedback there.

Please don't just recommend your own builds for the sake of attention. This is intended as a community resource to help each other out, not for us to get attention for ourselves. But by all means link something of yours if it really is the best fit for what somebody has asked! If you really enjoy a build that's been recommended to you, be sure to give it a 'like' and leave a comment, builders love feedback from the community.

I'll boost this off.  My son has started to play Skyrim.  He's looking for a 1h build with a magical offhand.  I have a build of mine I'll let him look at but wanted to give him a couple of options.  So, warrior based with off hand magic (destruction and healing).  He's new to the game so nothing to complex but as noted I wanted to give him a few options.  Thanks in advance.

Hey Vargr, just a thought.  Do we "delete" the query thread when done and then maybe you amend the main post with a subcategory of "suggested builds"?  That will keep the list clean for future?

I guess I'll bite, and see if I can't lucidly describe just what type of build i'm looking for.

Having not played skyrim for a long while until recently, I resolved to screw around in the character creator a few days back because I couldn't properly get into any of my older saves. I ended up making a khajiit character that strongly resembles a cheetah, and got the sudden urge to play a speed based character, if that makes any sense. There's a few elements that i'm looking for, and i'll try to list them below; I've checked out the archives as usual, but nothing turned up that really popped at me. Of course, the search was only preliminary.

Anyways, I'm looking for a build that moves quickly, and prioritizes agility in combat rather than brute force. Think of Oberyn Martell or Bronn from GoT, dodging attacks and moving in and out of combat. To this end, I figure I'm looking for a light armor user, as i don't plan on shying away from a fight as would likely be necessitated if I wore clothes. Speaking of such, I don't mind a little stealth, but I'd preferably confront foes in a straightforward manner after maybe an initial sneak attack; retreating to the shadows doesn't really make for fast-paced gameplay after all.

Given that mobility is sort of a theme here, and I usually play it safe with my perk choices in other builds, I'd like to try out something that utilizes perks that open up new moves. Think of silent roll, block runner, ranger, etc. They make moving around the battlefield easier, and keep me out of menus to subsequently heal all the time. That being said, I don't mind a bit of menu-shifting for applicating poisons or equipping spells, etc.

Finally, I'm a pretty big roleplayer. I'm imagining a proud, honorable fighter who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and makes up for slight stature with determination and unmatched skill. Think of Inigo Montoya, or something like that. I also don't imagine this character progressing too far into the main quest, for what it's worth, so end game shouts may be out of the picture unless I change my mind after reviewing the suggestions.

Also, I'm open to some magic, but I don't want to play second fiddle to a summon or trick people into fighting each other via illusion. I can see magic as a means to supplement fighting ability, but not as a means to shy away from a fight or divert attention from oneself. For what it's worth, i can really see storm magic working as a theme with this charater; lightning and wind are usually associated with spped after all, so if any builds incorporate such as a way to manipulate movement or control the battlefield, that'd be pretty cool too.

Important to note; I play on ps4, and so my access to mods is very limited. Console peasant, I know. I'm also not a huge fan of exploits, like the resto-glitch or anything.

Anyways, hopefully something turns up. If not, maybe I'll have to try and make this into a build myself, if I find time. It's nice to be back on the Vault!

Until you mentioned not liking exploits I thought that The Veiled Scribe would fit you perfectly. It's a bit of a weird build that focuses on Bow-Bashing and using a few little exploits to make it a bit more viable. Though really the closest thing is the 100% Shout Reduction (purely for Marked for Death) and it isn't strictly required for the build to work.

Anyway, it seems to fit most of the rest of it.

@ Delidas:  The Swordmaster by Soneca might fit what you are looking for.   Soneca recommended Imperial, Redguard, or Orc for the build but this is really just due to their starting skill boosts, i see no reason why you couldn't be a Khajiit.

Check out my build, The Tombraider.  Very heavy into roleplay.

I'm holding off playing Skyrim until the switch version is released, I'll mostly be playing in short bursts, thought it would be a good idea to make my mind up what build I play early, any ideas?

I just beat the remake of thief and want a nbuild that I can use my new founded thief skills with. So a stealth thieving character. Melee and range
