Well, Flame Cloak and Sparks look awesome too, and there's plenty of cool clothing combos you could've went with instead of the robes.

Hey now, blame Raid for not giving me instructions and going with "Do what you want." Besides, no reasons we can't do either of those spells ;)

Honestly, I am very tempted to shun the list of locations, and just explore and use the random books I find.

There are, of course, some exceptions... Fort Amol... for example, would be a priority for me, and I might even be tempted to have what's-his-face- from the Riverwood Trader dust off an old copy of Raise Dead to start me off. Other than that, I think it might be a bit of fun to see what my random wanderings net me, and perk accordingly ;D

I was going to include a sort of 'survival/hard mode' idea, which consisted of just searching for spells and never fast travelling, with no guide other than "Fort Amol's a good idea to explore first." You'd end up relying on past knowledge (pass that off as wizard's intuition) for knowing where a few spells are (because basically everybody by now knows that Clairvoyance is in Embershard Mine), but other than that you really would be a rejected mage, completely alone with nothing but a few basic spells. And there could definitely be exceptions in terms of merchants, I just thought a "no buying spells" rule would be the most concise way to put it. Now I want to do another playthrough completely blind, seeing how much I can remember :D

I know you said no staves but how might found scrolls fit in? I could argue they are like found spell books but I would like your thoughts. This is a very nice build with some fun role-play potential

Cheers Adrian! As for scrolls, I'd say they're okay, since they're a one time use, but not actively buying them from vendors since that would feel kinda cheaty to me.

Well crud! I ran across a Bane of the Undead scroll in Embershard mine and thought to myself, "This could prove useful at the end of Bleak Falls Barrow," but since I gave way to temptation and bought Raise Zombie at the Riverwood Trader (he's no hoity-toity magician, just some dude with a book), I sold the thing off thinking It'd be cheating to hang on to it.

Regretting that decision now... think I'll restart, avoid the merchant, and just do it the hard way. But I'm getting Raise Zombie from Fort Snowhawk post-haste... that spell levels Conjuration pretty quickly xD

Just a heads-up, in the Bound Bow's location description, it no longer mentions the fact that Fort Amol is the specific fort you need to search to find the tome.

I hadn't really considered scrolls at all, to be honest - they're usually something I just sell straight away without thinking about it. Scrolls could actually add an interesting dynamic, creating some Vancian-wizard style finales. Though there would definitely need to be rules about buying them - you'd have to rely on loot only, or at least scrolls from non-mage vendors.
