    The Energist

There were whispers, rumors, that the Arch-mage of the College of Winterhold in Skyrim had given birth to a son, destined to be the most powerful mage to ever walk nirn. When the thalmor got word of this they were furios, a man of such power could pose a huge threat to their authority. They sent an agent to the college to "deal" with the child, using any means necessary. As the agent approached the sleeping child he cackled softly. He planned on slitting the child's throat however he suddenly realized that it would be too messy and Mages had a nasty habit of figuring things out. So the agent did the next best thing he slit the child's arcane cortexs. Arcane cortexs are located in the center of the palm and they are what enable mages to cast spells. With his arcane cortexs severely damged the child would never be able to cast a single spell as long as he lived...

    The Concept

The energist is a pure mage who is incapable of casting spells. His arcane cortex's are so severely damged that he isn't even able to enchant weapons or armor. So how exactly does the energist use magic then? Well he doesn't use magic per say, instead he discovered a way to tap into his potential energy reserves and convert to kinetic energy which is then used to "charge" objects. The energist mainly charges two types of items, arcane staves and arcane disks both utilizing his kinetic energy in different ways. Arcane disks(Shields) convert energy to force usable offensively and defensively. Arcane Staves convert energy into spells allowing the energist to indirectly use magic. Other mages use staves, however they use the power of the stave itself rather than charging the stave with their own energy, thus the energist intensifies the power of staves greatly. Additionally the energist uses stave powders(Alchemy) to futher increase the abilities of his staves. He can also use energy to manipulate himself and the world around him. Energy conversion has both advantages and disadvantages in that this unique form of magic costs no magicka however it requires an item and soul gems to use.

    The Basics

    Race: Breton or Dark Elf

The energist had both a Breton and a Dark Elf as a parent so either would work. Bretons conjuration boost and magic resistance is ever helpful, though Dark Elf destruction boost would be a big help.

    Gender: Male

The energist is the tale of a boy becoming a man and striving for his father's approval. It is an essential part of what makes him who he is.

    Stats 1/1/0

Shouts: Slow Time,Whirlwind Sprint, Cyclone, Become Ethereal,Unrelenting Force(Elaboration later on)

Note on Leveling Skills- Since no spells are sued you may be wondering how to level your skills. After joining the theives guild, you will have more opportunities to make money and the hood gives you better prices , so you can use all that money on training. In order to reach higher levels of destruction and conjuration training you may need to level some un-used skills to unlock more tiers of training through level up.

The energist spent his whole childhood attempting in vain to impress his father. When he was a teenager he discovered a way to harness, control, and manipulate energy almost as a new form of magic. But when the energist showed his father, he disapproved, claiming it was impure. So the energist ran away and joined the thieve's guild. Despite running away from the arcane he continued his studies in energy and used the money he made from theft to fund his experiments.

    Skills

Destruction- The energists main source of damage is various destruction staves. He uses them differently than other mkages and is able to increase the power of them through destruction perks. Higher destruction skill also reduces stave cost and will be important since enchanting isn't used.

Block- The energist relies heavily on Arcane Disks, a.k.a shields, and is able to use them efficiently to his defense. The left side of the tree will give him an even further advantage on mages and ranged enemies. The bashing abilities granted by the right side of the tree buy valuable time to charge up spells with a delay.

Light Armor- Despite his return to the college the energist continues to wear the armor of the thieve's guild as a symbol for his independence. Also as there are no mage armor staves in Skyrim light armor is the only option to mantain mobility and defense.

Alchemy- The energist uses arcane powders to coat the gems of staves and icnrease their power. Seeing as he has no access to restoration magic alchemy is also the energist's primary source of healing.

Conjuration- The summoner and twin souls perks make conjuration staves much more useful and high skill means more charges. Conjured allies are important to the energist, since he is limited to destruction staves as his primary damage output.

Speech- Being a thief the energist developed a sharp tongue. Once you are able to get the merchant perk you can make valuable potions and sell them to Faralda and Phinis to make up for money spent during training. Additionally if you choose to use pickpocket as an unperked or 2 perked skill you can steal the money back.

The energist soon discovered that the secret to true mastery of energy was by mastering his chakra. SO he sought out the greybeards to meditate on his inner chi and master his chakra. By tuning his inner balance, his energy techniques became stronger  and flowed as easily as magic. After inner reflection he decided he should give his father another chance. He returned to the college and set about to earning his father's love and respect.

    The Arsenal

The energist employs a variety of conduits to charge with energy and aid him in battle. In addition to wearing the armor of his guild(Thieve's Guild Armor) as a symbol for independence, he has a collection of artifacts gathered from across the land. Additionally his alchemical prowess has granted him access to greater energy reserves(Shout CD).Note however that staves are expensive without cost reduction enchantments so it may be wise to use your favorite duplication glitch on soul gems.

Arcane Disks- The energist is agile and swift, able to counter is enemies attacks with brute strength and then retaliate with a medley of energy based abilities, including repelling undead, releasing bursts of energy, and blocking spells. Arcane disks are mainly used for defensive purposes but can also serve as offensive tactics.

Energy Wall(Spell Breaker)- Increasing his armor rating and mitigating the damage from spells the energist takes a defensive stance waiting for those pesky mages to run out of mana.

Energy Aura(Dawnguard Rune Shield)- The energist envelops himself in a blinding light burning undead in the surrounding area.

Energy Blast(Auriel's Shield)- After enduring waves of enemy attacks the energy releases the stored up energy in a focused blast.

Arcane Staves- The mains source of damage for the energist is wooden staves that channel energy into spells that destroy enemies and summon daedra. As well as generic staves, a mix of unique staves are employed.

Dragon Chi Energy(Hevnoraak's/Dragon Priest/Miraak)- Won in battle from the ancient dragon priests themselves, these staves are extra powerful having been naturally imbued with dragon chi energy

Maker Energy(Sanguine Rose/Aethereal Staff)- These unique staves utilize maker energy which temporarily takes the form of beasts from beyond to fight for the energist.

Destructive Energy(Wabbajack/Skull of Corruption/Magnus Staff)-Instead of taking forms or employing elements these staves destroy energy straight from the enemy's chakra

Manipulation Techniques- This form of energy is very similar to magic in that it doesn't have to be channeled through items but rather than being cast from the energy cortexes it is cast from the chakra or inner energy reserves.

Mastered Chakra(Amulet of Talos w/ Fortify Resto)- The energist's mastered chakra allows him to him to use energy with relatively no debilitating effects on himself

Motion Techniques(Slow TIme/Whirlwind Sprint/Become Ethereal)- Converting energy into motion the energist is able to propel himself forward, slow enemy movement, and increase his speed to the point where he is invulnerable to damage.

Force Techniques(Cyclone/Unrelenting Force)- This technique converts energy directly into force pushing away enemies and knocking them down.

Arcane Powders and Tonics- The energist is able to take natural ingredients and grind them into powders which can be placed in the gem of a staff increasing its power. He can also create a variety of tonics that further balance his chakra increasing his capabilities.

Defensive Chakra Tonic(Fortify Magic Resistance and Block)- Tundra Cotton + Bleeding Crown

This tonic is highly effective against spellsword who attempt to burn you and stab you

Dust of Contrast(Fortify Health and Destruction) Glowing Mushroom + Glow Dust + Blue Mountain Flower

This dust increases your offensive and defensive capabilities

Energy Draught(Restore Stamina and Fortify Conjuration) Lavender + Blue MT. Flower + Purple MT.Flower

Increases your energy for more bashes and longer lasting summons

While visiting an excavation for one of his classes, the energist stumbled upon an orb that could very well be the key to earning his father's approval. He rushed back to the college but when he told his father, he seemed disinterested, "If we don't know what it is how could it be of any use to us." But the energist was determined so he went to the arcanaeum to research the orb.

    Gameplay

General Combat- The energist, at his core is an agile and evasive shield-mage.He can dodge enemy attacks with evasive maneuvers such as whirlwind sprint or become ethereal. At the same time he can use the enemies attacks against them with auriel's shield, turtle up with spellbreaker, or counter enemy attacks with the Quick reflexes perk. Or you could avoid facing the enemy completely by summoning a dremora or dwarven sphere to distract them. As for going on the offensive being able to turn defensive using your shields pairs well with wall staves, by mitigating enemy damage while they burn. If you ever find enemies getting too close for comfort either force technique should solve the problem.

Against Mages- The energist is actually quite strong against mages so much so i named a pair of shield and stave magebane. You can use spellbreaker to block enemy spells while draining their magicka with the staff of Magnus basically rendering them useless.

Against Melee Warriors- Turtling with your shield works well for warriors, as well as leaving your summons to take the damage. You could always push them away with auriel's shield, unrelenting force, or cyclone.

Against Archers- Archers are easily countered with the slow time shout making their arrows easy to evade or block with the Deflect Arrows perk. Blasting them with wabbajack is never a bad idea to eliminate ranged threats.

Against Summoners- The expression fight fire with fire couldn't be more true against summoners, especially because your dremora will usually beat the enemies weaker daedra. Of course it would be alot easier if you stumble upon a staff of banish.

Against Dragons- The magebane stance works perfectly against dragons as well seeing as spellbreaker blocks their breath shouts and if they run out magicka they can't even use their shouts. Dremora lords can also help lower giant health bars.

The energist was running for his life from the dragon priest. His research into the orb led him to a staff located here in Labrynthinian. Unfortunately the books didn't say anything about the crazy ancient priest that guarded the staff. "Naan Laat Rot" it shrieked which meant any last words in Dovah. As the priest charged up his staff for the final blow someone stepped in front of the energist and took the blast. He took the opportunity and blasted the priest with his own staff blowing it into oblivion. Then he turned his attention to his savior, it was his father! " What are you doing here father."

"Son I was wrong, you weren't born with magic so you made your own, and incredible feat i should've seen from the beginning. You must go on, lead the college better than I did, and remember, I do love you."

    Closing Notes

Basis: In case the pictures didn't give it away this build is based off of gambit from x-men. If you were a little confused about the whole thieve's guild thing, he was the leader of the thieve's guild. I could've gone many ways with this build and it went through alot of changes but this felt the most skyrimized,

The Perk Spread: Yes! I know it isn't very good but it's my first w]one so cuz]t me some slack

Thanks: Thank You time! First I want to thank Dragonborn for listening to my 3000 ideas that never happened and probably never will happen. He must think I'm some psycho who never follows through on anything. Next I want to thank Ponty and Albino for suggestions on the original build and possible improvements that lead to the overhaul that turned it into this.

Final Note: Thanks for Reading! I hope you enjoy the unique playstyle and I hope i didn't forget anything. For any gambit fans I hope I didnt ruin him for you XD

This is pretty well done Shadow, though, according to Racial Phylegony, the race of the child is the race of the mother

I´m sorry to say this, but your build breaks one of the rules of this Event. Namely: "Your build must range between levels 35-55. No more, no less."

I can add in more levels then and yes I did test it why I went to like level 47
  • February 14, 2015

Than it´s ok. Add Perk spread minimaly for level 35 and everything is ok :)

As Karver said, all you need to do is add a level 35 perkspread and all is well. Good job!

The concept itself is interesting, but unfortunately the presentation, backstory and gameplay mechanics are lacking.

In your special moves section there is an ability that requires chaining shouts together but you make no mention of any cool down exploit that would make this combo possible

On top of that these special moves lack any real synergy. They feel tacked on rather than being an integral part of the builds mechanics.

I have to disagree with you. The presentation is quite nice for someone relatively new.
