    Hello All,

I'm new to the blog, and this is my first character build. It was born out of a desire to find a new and interesting combat style that I hadn't tried before. While brainstorming this idea, I came to a realization. In all of my playthroughs of Skyrim, I had never once used a character that wielded only a single dagger. The rest just fell together. So, without further ado, I present...

    The Duelist

The Duelist is, in my humble opinion, the perfect combination between a deadly assassin, an honorable warrior, and a lighthearted thief. He uses a unique out-in-the-open, single-dagger combat style utilizing the Quick Reflexes perk to avoid the blows of enemies.

Race: Although this build is playable with any race, I suggest either Nord, Imperial, or Redguard for skill bonuses, or Breton for magic resistance.

Stats: 0/1/1 (M/H/S) The duelist uses no magic skills, so all of your points can go into health and stamina. I suggest putting more points into health at early levels to increase survivability.

Stone: Lord, for magic protection. Mages are a pain throughout this build.

    Major Skills:

One Handed: Used for dealing damage to enemies using daggers. Perks: Armsman 5/5, Fighting Stance, Savage Strike, and Critical Charge.

Light Armor: Used for protection while staying light on your feet. Perks: Agile Defender 5/5, Custom Fit, Unhindered, Wind Walker.

Smithing: Used for improving your daggers, as they would tend to do very little damage otherwise. Smithing levels the playing field a bit. Perks: Steel, Eleven, Advanced, Glass, Arcane.

Speech (Optional): Used for getting better prices and persuading/bribing guards. Perks: Haggling 2/5, Allure, Bribery, Merchant, Persuasion.

    Minor Skills:

Block: Used solely for Quick Reflexes, as daggers are terrible at absorbing damage. Perks: Shield Wall 1/5, Quick Reflexes.

Archery: A support skill. Simply for using crossbows to get at far away enemies. Perks: Overdraw 1/5, Eagle Eye, Steady Hand 2/2

Sneak: Used mainly for completing missions with the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves' Guild that require it, as well as the occasional sneak attack. Unperked.

    Equipment:

Armor: Thieves' Guild Hood, Sleeveless Dawnguard Armor, Dawnguard Light Boots, Dawnguard Light Gauntlets. Ties together the aesthetic as a rogue/thief/Robin Hood style character. You may also want to add a Ring of Health and Necklace of One-Handed.

Weapons: Advanced Crossbow, Smithed Glass Dagger, Blade of Woe, Mehrune's Razor.

    Gameplay:

The combat of this build is truly what separates it from being a simple thief/assassin build. You will be using a dagger if one hand with a free left hand. This allows you to block enemies' attacks. However, daggers are the worst blocking weapons in the game. That is why it is suggested that you grind block to 30 as soon as possible and grab the Quick Reflexes perk. This will allow you to duck out of the way of a melee enemy's power attack. The speed of a dagger will allow you hit them 3-4 times before they recover.

In melee combat you should simply avoid an enemy's attacks until they power attack, when you should jump quickly into block mode and let Quick Reflexes do the rest. Against archers and mages, either zig-zag to avoid their projectiles until you reach them on foot, or pull out your crossbow and give them a taste of their own medicine. To initiate combat, you should shoot a crossbow bolt from sneak mode or sneak attack the closest enemy with a dagger. Against groups, use the terrain to your advantage: jump on structures or sprint away and fire crossbow bolts in order to thin them down enough to face enemies in lesser numbers.

    Roleplay:

The Duelist, being the very capable and nimble fighter that he is, scoffs at the use of two-handed weapons and heavy armor. As such, he tends to dislike characters who see a weapon as only a symbol of manliness, thinking instead that a better fighter uses a smaller blade. As such, he does some pretty hardcore judging on some NPC's, respecting dagger-users far more than warhammer-swingers. I played this build with a Chaotic Good alignment. He likes to help others, and is more than willing to break the law to help either those in need or himself.

    Recommended Quests:

Dawnguard: Used for acquiring the recommended armor set. Completion of the questline is optional, but side with the Dawnguard.

Thieves' Guild: Being an expert knife fighter, you are sought after by the Thieves' Guild, and use the quest line to become rich.

Dark Brotherhood: The Dark Brotherhood have observed your dagger skills, and are impressed. Complete the questline, but do as few extra contracts as possible, as this is not an evil build.

Radiant Bounties: Fun ways to level early characters.

Civil War: Choose whichever side you enjoy most, and win fame and glory on the battlefield.

Pieces of the Past: What master dagger-fighter would not want to retrieve a legendary Daedric Dagger?

Alright guys, this concludes my first build. I apologize in advance for any mistakes I have made, and would enjoy constructive criticism to help with later builds. Thanks!

HUGE Thank you to Shuuiketsu for all of these awesome screenshots!
