‘’Money, you  laggard! What else? It always comes down to coin!’’

    Olfrid Battle-Born

Based on that statement, I present to you my very first build on this site:

Where most mages spells rely on their magicka bar, the power of this character depends ironically on how many coin he has in his purse. And more importantly, how to spend it.
Combining a variety of overused and underused perks the Money Mage is an exception on the ‘luxury problem’ most Skyrim Characters find themselves in sooner or later: ‘I have nothing to spend my money on.’
Buying and collecting books, scrolls, staffs, crafting materials, the most luxury clothes, ingredients, wine, food and soul gems the Money Mage has always something to spend money on and can best be classified as a class somewhere between a merchant and a mage, say it with a more delicate and royal touch.

Buying his way out of trouble he always will try to find the easiest way to end a conflict: speech and gold. This also reflects his battle strategy and perk choices, which are rather varied but based on lavatory and lazyness. The Money Mage will always bribe over brawling.
What his enemies can expect to be thrown at them tomorrow depends on what the Money Mage has bought at the local store today.
Clothed in his most luxury clothes, he travels all over Skyrim, visiting cities and stores to sell of items he either has found, crafted or even stolen to get himself the best deals.
Pointing down his characteristic, he isn’t particularly evil, but his lust for coin will find the Money Mage more than often at the wrong side of the law, and guards will know your name very soon. But guards are people, and people can be bought.

    Race: Imperial.
Although that choice is completely up to you I prefer the Imperial as Imperials will find more coin with their Imperial Luck ability which suites this build very well.
That, and I’ve found that the Emperor’s Voice power has saved his ‘gilded behind’ more than once, and not even only in the early levels.

    Stats: 0 Magicka, 1 Health, 0 Stamina.
That was my choice, as the Money Mage barely uses magicka at all.
Enchantments, Elsweyr Fondue and potions can help him out very well in the rare occasions he actually needs it though, which only is when iron needs to be transferred into gold. Stamina is also not necessarily but you could spend a few spare points in it if you want to run greater distances.

    Equipment/Fashion:
‘Because the suite makes the man.’
As for how equipment goes I would highly advise you to in the early game wear all items you can find that will fortify either Speech Craft or Barter to bring in more extra coin, as that is your essential goal all the time. Fortify Carry Weight goes in line with that equally, since you have to carry that weight.
Ironically I’ve found that Fortify Speech brings in more coin than Barter, but those items cannot be disenchanted, so you have to make sure you will choose the right equipment. An Amulet of Dibella (which increases Speech by 10 Points) will therefore bring you more coin compared to the Amulet of Zenithar (for which makes prices 10% better) and going that line the Amulet of Articulation is the best necklace you can get, until you can enchant them yourself.

Ignore the ice things underneath his feets. I have no idea how it got there. It just was there and since there wouldn't leave when my character walks or stand still.

    Basegame:
The following sum might not look so good, but when it comes to enchantments, these are still the best options in the early game.

Head:                      Mask Of Clavicus Vile. Go Guild Master’s Hood or the Blackguard's if you prefer, but
                                   the mask has more enchantments.
Neck:                       Amulet of Articulation. It boosts persuasion and speechcraft and has a base armor
rating between 2 and 8 without interfering with the Mage Armor scrolls and perks.
Clothes:                   Cicero’s Clothes . It boost Fortify Barter with 20% and is the only clothing that can
reach this amount of enchantment. Spoilers alert: during the quest A Cure For
Madness you can get this clothing without killing Cicero when you hide behind him,
making sure he can’t see you and cast a Paralyze Scroll on him. The moment he is
about to get up you can steal his clothes even though the success rate is counted
                                   as 0%.
Gloves:                    Thieves Gloves for an easy life or self-enchanted Mythic Dawn Gloves as the red
colour goes very well with the Cicero’s Clothes.
Ring:                       As you see fit, as long as it looks expansive. Stats can be the same as above.
Boots:                     Fine Boots, enchanted with Muffle or Thieves Boots.

    Lategame:
As Fortify Barter caps at 100% and can be achieved with 100 Speech and 50% Barter you will find later in game that you can reach that cap easier when you can enchant your own outfit.

Head:                       Aetherial Crown, loaded with powers depending on curcomstances. The Ritual Stone
can be choosen as offence and the Lord or Atronach stone as defence.
Neck:                      Gold Diamond Necklace, enchanted with Fortify Barter and Waterbreathing or
                                   Fortify Health and Barter.
Clothes:                   Emperor Robes, because it’s the pinnacle of luxury and wealth and that is what you
want to emit. Enchanted with Fortify Alteration and Fortify Alteration and
Magicka Regen; to make more use of the Transmute Mineral Ore spell.
Or: Fortify Health and Fortify Carry Weight.
Gloves:                    Mythic Down Gloves, as they suites better with the Emperor Robes.
Enchant them with Fortify Lock picking and Pickpocket or Fortify Magicka and
                                   Unarmed.
Ring:                        Gold Diamond Ring, enchanted with Fortify Magicka and Fortify Alteration, or Fortify
                                   Magicka and Fortify Health.
Boots:                     Aesthetically Cicero’s Boots goes very well with the Emperor Robes. Or choose
enchanted Fine Boots with Fortify Muffle and Fortify Carry Weight.

    Gameplay:
Whenever you go to town it is practical to use the Blessing of Zenithar for a free 10% Fortify Barter for the next 8 hours in game, upped to 20% after giving a coin to a beggar.
Role playing a Money Mage can go two ways, depending on your characters character (and yours) you either can go with the easy way and plunder every village you see, pick every pocket that walks by and working your way up in the Thieves Guild.
Or you could give yourself a challenge and role play a merchant who lives an honest life. Start off with wood cutting, pick flowers and make your own potions or hire a mercenary who you upgrade with your own crafted gear and raid some tombs to sell of your wear in the nearby towns.

No matter which way you went, go for the Prowler’s Profit as soon as possible, it is a life saver. You may also want to be on the lookout for these special ingredients listed below under Food and Drinks to make your life a bit easier. Or to improve your role playing.
For additional Battle Strategies see the Special Moves/Abilities section below.

    RECOMMENDED FACTIONS/QUESTS:

    No Stones Unturned.
I know it’s tedious, but it’s an ability that makes your Money Mage worth its name.

    The Thieves Guild.
Doing extra jobs for both Vex and Delvin suites very well with my own town plundering while being on the lookout for either Unusual Gems.

Every other quest or faction that brings in more coin or making you richer some other way (quests for townies is also nice as they allow you to take items from their home) is simply advisable.

    Skills:
You will find yourself mostly in the Thieves class for this build. Speech is a must, you could take all the perks from there. Treasure Hunter and Golden Touch from the Lockpicking tree will make you richter faster while searching for items. Extra Pockets comes in handy for in case your companion will run out of space.
Alteration could be considered, as the only spell you would need is the Transmute Mineral Ore spell.
For the rest: Smithing, Enchanting and Alchemy. Fortify Barter Potions will be used before selling of ware, enchanting can make items worth more before selling, and Smithing will do the same with weapons and armor. If you can afford it you could add all perks into the smithing tree to make smithing more valueble.

    SPECIAL MOVES/ABILITIES

    Money Maker

Every chest you open will turn into a treasure chest and is now worth its name (and weight in gold) and even on dead bodies you will find treasure where others just find dirt.
Loaded with gold and jewellery you have enough gold to spend on the next set of scrolls, staffs and soul gems needed to raid the next dungeon. And if you have a bounty on your head, you easily can buy it off.
Requires: Prowlers’ Profit ability, Imperial Luck ability, Golden Touch and Treasure Hunter perks.

    Midas’ Touch:
Like king Midas could do with everything he touched, you can do with iron, but that with zero points into magicka. Buy cheap iron and turn it into gold to make, enchant and sell your jewellery worth its money tenfold.
Requires Transmute Mineral Ore, one dish of Elsweyr Fondue and one self-made Fortify Magicka potion.

    Invincible Scroll Reader:
While being under the spell or power that makes you untouchable or buying yourself enough time you read out loud for your enemies what will come next.
Cloaked in Flame or other element while being surrounded by an aura that heals you, even the bravest enemies that will reach you will either flee in terror or only hurt themselves trying to hurt you.
Even if they manage to drain down your magicka bar, they will find only their own time wasted.
Requires: Invisibility Scroll or potion or Become Aetherial Shout or Slow Time combined with whatever destructive scroll you have on hand.

    Fed for the Fight
Throwing yourself into battle on an empty stomach is a bad idea and you know that. What you eat is what you are and what your enemies will face is a well filled, tireless fighting machine in nothing but clothes while everyone around you is heavily armoured and armed to the teeth.
Bring the shame on your enemies’ faces while rushing towards and through them with never-ending stamina on your disposal and a Health Bar that doesn’t seem to drain.
Requires: Beef Stew, Horker Stew, Vegetable Soup, Venison Stew, Fortify Healing and Fortify Healing Reneration potion, Enchantments with the same effect and the Lady Stone.

    Staff of Walls
Marking the edge of where your enemies can come while buying yourself enough time to think about what to do next your enemies will only find a wall of elements that will either hurt or stagger them. Seemingly out of nowhere they find themselves walled and they cannot pass nor reach you. Coming too close will hurt them and staying away will make them simply an easy target for your next move.
Requires: Miraaks’ Staff, Staff of the Frost Wall or Dragon Priest Staff and Slow Time Shout.

    Army of the Dead
Your enemies are reduced to just a few man. A few strong man against what they think will be you alone. Then the thrall they’ve just summoned suddenly turns on them and if that is not enough their dead comrades will raise again to join your side as well. The tide of battle has turned as they will witness an army marching forward, an army that just a few moments ago were considered their friend. And they will join you in death.
Requires: Scroll of Dead Thrall, Scroll of Command Daedra and the Aetherial Crown loaded with the Ritual Stone.

    Storm of the Elements
Suddenly, like out of nowhere your enemies will find themselves burned, fried and frozen solid. What is still standing will soon fall after hit by a storm with the power of three.
Requires: Slow Time shout, Scroll of Fire Storm, Scroll of Blizzard, Scroll of Lightning Cloak and Companion’s Insight (Dragonborn required) for in case you have a companion with you or a thrall raised.

    Crowd (out of) Control
Your enemies run in fear, away from you and away from each other. Those who aren’t scared will tear their comrades apart and you are just standing, watching them.
Requires: Slow Time shout, Scroll of Mayhem, Scroll of Hysteria and Scroll of Guardian Circle.

    Spider Trap
Your enemies are running towards you, but suddenly they will find the ground under their feets seem to move and explode. It is too late to turn now and they will all fall for the traps you’ve just layed down for them.
Requires: Slow Time Shout, Scroll of Fire Rune, Scroll of Frost Rune, Scroll of Lightning Rune, Exploding Flame Spider, Exploding Frost Spider, Exploding Poison Spider and Exploding Shock Spider. (The spider scrolls requires Dragonborn.)

    Supporter
That you let your companion(s) do the fighting for you doesn’t mean you are completely helpless or even lazy. In the background you silently bulk them all up, increasing their strength reaching godlike status and beyond, making them nearly invincible to all enemies around them.
Requires: Slow Time shout, Bardic Knowledge Black Book Power (Dragonborn needed), Scroll of Courage, Scroll of Rally and Scroll of Call to Arms.

    PC ONLY: Playing with mods
Below is a list of highly recommended mods that goes very well with this build. I really feel sorry for you console players but I really wished you guys could feel the extra layers that mods can offer. Maybe this list will persuade you to buy Skyrim on PC as well. It is less expansive now as it was before.

    Dr Bandolier:
More carry weight means more supplies and more supplies means more money.

    Chesko Frostfall:
Weather and the need to cloth warm, build a tent and eat warm food also means that you can specialise in selling tents to vendors. Just something else you can do with your spare pelts.

    Economics of Skyrim:
What this does is it changes the overall products that are available in Skyrim to their logical locations. That means that fish is more widely available in towns and cities near water like Riften and Windhelm while for other supplies like pelts and iron ingots you should head to Whiterun. What this mod does for the Money Mage is giving you more reason to buy your silver ore in Markarth and sell your crafted and enchanted gear in cities that they are uncommon on. You choose your own fortifying trading route this way.

    JBS_banking_redux:
If you have a mod that gives septims weight (I have made one, contact me if you like to know more or want the mod) this mod can be what you need. Apart from turning money into almost weightless pieces of paper that is worth the value of the exchanged money you also can support the economy of Skyrim by investing your own money in the economy of the country. The benefit of this is that items you can buy will be slightly cheaper and your investment will growth over time.

    NPC Bartering:
Just like in old times, and with old times I mean medieval times. Now you can barter with NPC’s to buy and sell items they have in their inventory. If you don’t like pickpocketing but still like that ring they are wearing or just want a snack (they also sell food and drinks) than this mod is for you.

    Natural Carriage Drivers:
What this does for the Money Mage is making traveling through Skyrim more intense. Of course you could just let the carriage driver wake you up when arriving but know that they now have their own routes and not every carriage will bring you everywhere in Skyrim anymore. You can ask them to stop at a fixed location on the route for some extra money (which is the reason I’ve included this mod in this list) or you could sit back and enjoy the ride.
If you have a Eat and Drink mod like More Complex Needs, make sure that you have eaten and drink enough before using the carriage.
Finding yourself nearly starved isn’t a nice mood to find yourself in while entering a city.

    Populated Cities:
Simply adds more NPC’s to the city. They carry names like Commoner and Noble and although you can’t really start a deep conversation with them, combined with NPC Bartering you just have a few more customers to buy and sell items from and with.

    Imp’s More Complex Needs:
The need to buy food and drinks to avoid dying just adds another reason to hit the stores daily.
Fits a shopaholic like the Money Mage very well.

    Companion Vilja:
For the Money Mage the most practical ability of this companion is that Vilja can sell items for you exceeding the maximum gold of that vendors normally have when you are trying to sell them. Practical for when you are having spare items over that you no longer want to carry away.

    Mercenaries Plus:
You’re rich and you want that dungeon cleared but you are not particular strong.
Don’t worry. Now NPC’s that you have stolen items from are not the only one who can hire Mercenaries anymore. You can hire a couple up to a Master level who range from specializations to fit your needs. Be aware that having a bunch of them will make your gaming experience a bit too easy but having a mercenary or two, three will make your Money Mage feel even more noble.

    Plantable Jarrin Root:
A great add-on for the Hearthfire owners among us. Not only Jarrin Root can be planted, also other plants that normally cannot growth in captivity can now be cultivated under the roof of your Greenhouse.

Not bad for a first build, however I'd suggest shortening your paragraphs a little bit so it isn't a massive wall of text, maybe try adding a few extra images. Also it should be Character Build: The money Mage. Once you fix the title I'll be happy to give it a like.

Not too shabby. I really like the concept of it but I can see some problems when you run out of scrolls and you lose a lot of carrying weight lugging staves around. But other than that it's a pretty cool idea. From another point of view you can improves the format a little. It's a lot to read so maybe cut out a lot of the fat, like some of the special abilities seem like common knowledge or a little force. There are a couple spelling errors, not too many. And add pictures! Most people that see this will see a wall of text and just leave. We like pretty pictures around here. And as Lightpire said change the name to "Character Build: The Money Mage" Like I said I like the idea and all, just clean up the formatting a little and I will give you my +1 :)

Thanks for your support. I've done as you've sugested. I see it looks indeed better this way.

I believe it were the mods I've mentioned that had fat where it wasn't necesarily. I've changed that and think it looks indeed better this way. Spell erros did surprise me a little since originally I've typed the build in Word, just to avoid making them. I've editted it where I saw them.

For the ring I'd recommend Muiri's Ring. Seeing how you have Cicero's Robe then you probably already should have it. Better potions=more money. Ring of Pure Mixtures is a downgraded(from 15 to 12) version of it. Alternatively you could get Silver-Blood Family Ring.

Fortfiy Barter does give better prices compared to Fortify Speech of same magnitude, still I agree that Amulet of Dibella is overall better until Amulet of Articulation is gotten.

Go on top of the Throat of the World and take Notched Pickaxe. Better smithing=more money. And since you're there, put on the highest peak the Thieves Guild Boots and FusRoDah them so they fly from Whiterun to Riften directly into Tonilia's face, so that she understands how trashy those boots are and stops recommending them for all new recruits in TG. Normally when you take an unenchanted pair of boots their value for your char is 0(aside from armor); an enchanted pair is obviously +1, the TG Boots is -1. Yes, you heard it right, they make your pickpocketing worse. Just take Predator's Grace which are the only pre-enchanted boots in the game with Muffle=1 or self-enchant any pair of boots with Muffle with a Petty Gem, which will as well give you Muffle=1.

TG Gloves are not as bad(because Lockpick enchantments and potions were fixed) but I see more fitting for such a char something like Forgemaster's Fingers, because Lockpicking is already a cakewalk, investing in Lockpick perks make it a child play. Obviously when I say TG Gloves aren't bad I mean Blackguard Gloves aren't bad. No need to gimp yourself with downgraded(though they are heavier than TG Gloves and have less armor than TG/Master Guild's Gloves) equipment.

As for Vile's Masque, it's good, very good, just not always the best. It's best for eating hits from enemies(because it has the armor of a Daedric Helmet), for Transmuting(5% magica regen is not much but well, it's there), for Persuading(100% with Amulet of Articulation)/Intimidating/Bribing(100% standart, decreases the cost with Speech) and for bartering. Now the former should never, ever happen with this char while the latter 3 rarely constitute 100% of the gameplay. Volsung is here to help, having 2 extremely useful enchantments for such a char and the ever useful waterbreath, adding you in underwater treasure and ingredients(more particularly Nordic Barnacle and Salmon Roe, 2 out of 3 ingredients needed for most expensive potion in the game) hunting. Forget about Blackguard/TG/MG Hood. It's meh.

As for formatting the text, read it like you have no idea what should be written here(aka from scratch) from head to tail and you'll see yourself the faults in your editing.

A good first build, I especially liked the book-perk page idea! Veeery unique touch.

A good build, talks or spends his way out of trouble. Sounds like Black-Briar to me!

    Anyways, +1

I do like this build, but maybe, for your next one, you could talk in a seperate paragraph how the combat plays out, so we know what to expect :)

I did like the idea and overall layout of the build :)

you got a like from me!

Wait, what? Imperial Luck is bugged? Since when? I seriously did not know this. It's been a while since I have published this build so if I had mentioned it myself I have forgotten it by now.
