    The Forgotten King

An epitaph in a forgotten crypt--etched with the words "Once a King, Now Forgotten"--is the only sign that this King ever lived.  No songs.  No stories.  No statues.  Nothing.

The King comes from the first era, several generations after King Gellir.  He took the throne as his father died, supported unanimously by the local Jarls.  But his rule did not last long.  In only a few short weeks he succumbed to what many thought was an illness--but he had, in fact, been steadily poisoned by an unknown assassin..

Nothing became of his rule, and soon Skyrim forgot him.

    Origin

Like his father, the King was raised a warrior.  With ax and sword and shield he learned the ways of the world.  By twelve he had taken his first life--the execution of a murderer in his father's stead.

He also learned many other aspects of life from his father.  He learned to cherish Skyrim and its people.  To defend them from threats, even at the cost of his life.  He learned that a good King not only needed to be a good warrior, but a good statesmen.  The King had to think several steps ahead of his enemies, to forge alliances when needed, and resolve conflicts.

By the age of 18 he'd fought in many conflicts, spear heading his men as the first one into battle.  A good King inspires his soldiers by action, and this Forgotten King never hesitated to leap forward, ax and sword devastating his enemies.

And it was during this year of his life that he was forced to the throne as news of his father's valorous death in battle reached his court.  Skyrim mourned the King of the past, and celebrated the hope of the future.  Only this future came to a short and bitter end...

    Present Day...

The King feels pain erupt through his chest and coughs violently as centuries of dust and soot leave his lungs.  But still...he feels.

He finds himself entombed in a small crypt; a single torch flickering light just enough to sporadically touch each wall and paint the deepest shadows down the corridor.  Images of Draugr flood his mind and he touches his face and body.  He calms as he realizes that he is whole.  His body is drained and his muscles feel like crumbling stone.  He stares at the fading flame of the torch and the King wonders who disturbed his grave.  He knows they haven't been gone long.  Stumbling with torch in hand, he makes his way to the bitter winds of his homeland.

Wandering confused and cold, he falls back on his instincts and training.  The King hunts to eat.  He sleeps in caves and alcoves.  He even finds some ragged clothes discarded by, what he assumed to be, a rather large man.  Though confused, he finds solace in the fact that his body functions as normal.

In the distance he spots a group of men: they appear to be part of some military.  Deciding, for the first time, to speak to another person, he walks to their camp.  As he descends on the military men chaos erupts and they are attacked.

The King finds himself in bondage, herded and chained with these other men called "Stormcloaks".  He has never heard such a word, and wonders how long he has been dead.  He is carted to a placed called Helgen...

    Build Overview

The Forgotten King is my favorite character.  I feel like he has a purpose and that he's a strong warrior character.   He strives to be a King once again, since he feels he was robbed of the opportunity the first time.  He doesn't think much of the Empire, and even less of Ulfric Stormcloak.  In his time, only a couple hundred years after Ysgramor, it was unheard of to bend your knee to a Elf.

Everything he does is to become a King once again.  He amasses fortunes, destroys legendary foes, and collects loyal followers.

When he finds out he is dovahkiin, he takes it as a divine sign that he should rule.  He embraces being the Dragonborn, and uses it to all its advantages.  He also looks down on Ulfric, who he sees as a fake Dragonborn (even though Ulfric never claimed to be such) because Ulfric is famous for using his Thu'um against Torygg.

He may sound ambiguous but he is not.  He cares for the people of Skyrim.  He welcomes any race who would follow the laws and work with his or her common man or woman.  But he is suspicious of any of the Mer.  But he knows times have changed and he must gain the support of everyone in Skyrim.

    Race

You are a Nord.  You were once a King of Skyrim.  There is no other option here.  This is a Nordic King character build.

    Equipment

What better weapon to symbolize your right to the throne than Wuuthrad?  The ax of Skyrim's first and, arguably, greatest king.  You get this at the end of the Companion's questline.  Simply take it from the statue of Ysgramor after you place it there.

The Jagged Crown.  The crown of Skyrim.  I used the Stormcloaks to get to it, then stole it for myself and disregarded them entirely.

Steel Plate Boots, Gauntlets, and Armor.  To me this just seemed like something a King would wear.  To get this, I stormed through Alftand Cathedral and killed Umana and took her gear as soon as I gathered my first follower.  Before that I used Ancient Nord Armor the ghost carries in Kjenstag Ruins.

Amulet of Talos.  Even though you don't worship Talos (why would you worship some Emperor who came an entire Era after you?)  You still have heard of his stories, as a fellow Dragonborn becoming an Emperor, and you respect him.  I found mine the first time I stepped in Solitude and witness that hold guard's execution.  I looted it from his body.

If you're going to use a sword you need one that fits a King (even a future one).  So I chose Dawnbreaker.  Seems to fit.  It given to you when you find Meridia's Beacon and complete that quest.

When the Forgotten King uses a shield, why would he choose any other than the one Ysgramor himself used?  Ysgramor's shield is found at the end of the Companion's quest line in a chest in the same room where you free Kodlak from his beast.

    Perks and Build

Just a quick note: I don't use crafting skills.  A King doesn't craft.  He has blacksmiths, court wizards, and alchemists to do that for him.   Besides, if you only spend 10% of your time blacksmithing, how do you ever think you'll create something better than Eorland, let alone better than Wuuthrad?  Also I am, for the first time ever, using Speech.  A King must be charismatic.  A King must be rich.  He must be able to put fear in tough men's hearts, show compassion when needed, and even persuade the most stubborn of minds.

    Battle Tactics

Judgment of the Treacherous - Your judgement is swift, dire, and fair.  You see the wicked, the murderers, the sick minded who harm the people of Skyrim--your people.  You've chosen them, marked them for the end.  Your proceed to carry out the execution then and there, using Wuuthrad to send them to their grave. (Shout: Marked for Death -- Standing Power Attack with Wuuthrad)

Charge of the King - Your resolve is set.  Your enemies are before you.  You throw caution into the wind and throw yourself into the fray.  Everything seems to slow as you sprint forward and use all your might to cleave through your first foe.  Your flurry of slashing and bashing demoralizes your enemies and sends them running in hopes to live just a little bit longer.  (Shout: Slow Time-- Great Critical Charge/ Critical Charge + Shield Bash/Standing Power Attack/Sweep--Battle Cry)

Dragonborn's Ascent - You face many enemies.  Many who would stop you from taking the throne and allow the people of Skyrim's suffering to continue.  But you show them your divine right to the throne; you show them your Thu'um and none can stand before it.  You walk through the tangled bodies, finishing those still lingering with a few slashes of your Dawnbreaker.  (Shout: Fus Roh Da! -- attack downed opponents with Dawnbreaker)

(I've always loved Conan, especially the books by Robert E Howard, if you can't tell)

    Quests

There are many quests you can do and some you can't.

Companions - A must for this character to retrieve Wuuthrad and Ysgramor's Shield.  Also a must you cure yourself of Lycanthropy (and cure Vilkas and Farkas) because your character hopes to return to Sovngarde with his ancestors.

Bard's College - I liked this questline.  There's no Gift of Gab (too bad) but it still gave you some much needed information about Skyrim since you last lived.

Destroy the Dark Brotherhood! - This is a definite.  If you're going to be King you sure don't want those guys creeping around Skyrim.  Also, killing Grelod the Kind can be seen as you judging her guilty of mistreating children of Skyrim--especially those who need help the most.

Deadric Artifcats - Some are okay.  Some are not.  Dawnbreaker, for example is good.   Mind of Madness is okay.  Dawnstar is good if you choose to save Erandur.  Ebony Blade is not okay.  You do not want to go around killing people who trust you if you are to become king.

Dawnguard - Side with the Dawnguard.  You aren't King yet, but you will be.  So you need to forge strong allegiances and, obviously, rid your Kingdom of the vampires.

Dragonborn - I don't have it yet.  I know, I know.  I need to get this and Hearthfire.

    Followers

Vilkas - Vilkas is your main man.  He follows you as a companion, and will no doubt follow you to the throne.  He is smart, cunning, and a sturdy fighter.  He will become your general.

Farkas - Farkas is another good character.  He is strong, sturdy, and resolved.  He will be a critical part of your future kingdom by training the body and minds of your future army and guard.

Marcurio/Erandur - I could never decide between them.  But I needed a court wizard, and didn't know which to go with.  Either one would be an excellent adviser and court wizard.

    NOTES

This is my very first build on here.  I've included everything I can think of.  Let me know what you think and how to better it.

Thanks for the info.  I will do all of that when I get back from work.  I will have to think on the minor skills.  I will definitely do everything you said.  I forgot to include shouts and stones...even though I had it planned out :P  Thank you so much for your feed back.

Another easy place to get Steel Plate is off Salma in Ironbind Barrow. She sits just outside the entrance, and is far easier to kill than hordes of Falmer and Dwarven Automatons! +1
