    Lamp Knight

The idea for this character came to me while I was reading The Black Arts on Trial. I Stumbled upon a group called "The Order of the Lamp." There is not much info on them but what there was seemed awesome. Thus, this build was made. Hope you enjoy!

"The Order of the Lamp, sometimes called the "Lamp Knights," were an order of knights that acted as the protectors of the Mages Guild. The Order was implemented to guard the guild in dangerous territories. Its members were organized under the Palatinus, who was commanded directly by the Archmagister. They were given appropriate rights to certain services of the Mages Guild. A knight's rank within the Order approximated the individual's rank within the Guild, in terms of rights and privileges. The Order only recruited those who had already demonstrated fighting skills and were in good standing with the Mages Guild."

    Racial Choice

Any race can become a Lamp Knight as long as they meet the requirements stated above. However, there are a few races I would chose before the others. Those include:

    Altmer:

The additional 50 magicka you recieve from choosing an Altmer is appreciated on any character that uses magic skills. Also their innate Highborn ability makes them the ideal choice for casting. Their bonus' are +5 Alteration, +5 Destruction, and +5 Restoration.

    Dunmer:

Dunmer recieve a 50% resistance to fire which is very helpful against fire dragons and mages. Their ability will allow you one "flame cloak" a day until you recieve the actual spell. A Dunmer will recieve these bonuses: +10 Destruction, +5 Alteration. They are also a good roleplay choice because of their hate for necromancy, which will be an encouraged feature in the Order.

    Breton:

As you all know, Bretons recieve a 25% resist magic effect which is very helpful on all difficulties of the game. Their ability will also allow you to further your defense against the arcane arts, giving you 50% magic absorb effect for one minute. Their bonus' are +5 Alteration, +5 Restoration.

    Imperial:

The Imperial Luck power is pretty useless on this character. However, their Voice of the Emperor ability is great! An AoE calm effect that stops a bunch of baddies in their tracks is a lot of fun. Their bonus' are +10 Restoration, +5 Block, +5 Destruction, +5 Heavy Armor, and +5 One-Handed.

    Orc:

The Orcs recieve no power other than free access to strongholds. Their Berserker Rage ability is amazing allowing you to do double the damage for 60 seconds! Their bonus' are +10 Heavy Armor, +5 Block, and +5 One-Handed.

    Redguard:

Redguard get a 50% resist poison effect which isn't gonna hurt anybody. Their ability Adrenaline Rush is great for repeated power attacks or power bashes. Their bonus' are +10 One-Handed, +5 Alteration, +5 Block, and +5 Destruction.

    Major Skills

Lamp Knights are fighters of both melee and arcane arts. With strong defensive techniques and some versatile fighting techniques, Lamp Knights are soldiers to be feared.

One-Handed: With a sword or mace in their hand, these knights have no fear. Their skill with a blade is even more deadly than their skill of magic. Dawnbreaker is a useful weapon for a Lamp Knight due to the fact that one of their greatest enemies is a necromancer. As we all know, necromancers fight with undead.

Block: As the defenders of the Mage's Guild, a shield almost seems necessary. Used as both a strong defensive tool, it can also be used to smash your enemies face or unarm them before hammering them with your weapon.

Destruction: Destruction is the ranged form of attack for a Knight of the Order. They will use powerful ranged and cloak spells to boost offensive capabilities from close and far distances.

    Minor Skills

A Lamp Knight is as capable with magic as he is with his blade. Able to embody a shield, they protect the guild at all costs.

Heavy Armor: Similar to the blocking skill, this is defensive. As a knight it is almost expected that they wear a set of strong, bulky armor. However they wear a hood to show their loyalty to the Mage's Guild.

Restoration: Alchemy is often seen as a dark art persued by necromancers or dark mages. Therefore, restoration is the only proper way of healing. Often times this is a Lamp Knight's strongest tool.

Alteration: To further boost their defenses Lamp Knights use Alteration spells. The flesh spells add helpful defense while spells like paralysis, waterbreathing, and detect life help give them the upper-hand in some situations.

    Standing Stones

Similarly to your racial decision this isn't too darn big-a-deal. However if you'd like my insight on things this is where I'd lead you.

    The Mage:

The mage stone is great for leveling magic skills early on in your playthrough.

    The Warrior:

The warrior stone is great for leveling combat skills early on in your playthrough.

    The Lady:

The additional stamina and health regen are great for survival and power attacks!

    The Lord:

Even more defense! Not much else to say. You get some added resist magic too.

    Equipment

To get a sleek Knight look I wore Steel Plate armor along with a hood. With my Shield of Ysgramor, and the best sword I could find I wrecked my opponents! Dawnbreaker is a great weapon for fighting necromancer's minions and also looks sick. Finding armor is a very exciting part of this character due to the fact that I took no crafting skills. You don't have to worry about having a whole set since you wear a hood anyway and you have a shield and alteration along with the lord stone if you choose so you're never low on defense.

"Imagine waves of fire and frost, and the mountain shivers, Picture lightning arching forth, crackling in a dragon's sigh. Like leaves, the battlemages fly to rain down from the sky."

                                                                                                                       -Mannimarco, King of Worms

    The Build

This character is completely build around roleplay! You are the sole survivor of the Order of the Lamp. Your only goal is to protect the Mage's Guild, or in Skyrim, The College of Winterhold. You must first train your skills at Jorrvaskr, before seeking out the Dark Brotherhood and Destroying them as proof of your strength. Then travel far to the northeast to the College where you will continue to grow in strength there, until you finish your training. All Necromancer's must be destroyed, they are the reason your order was formed. You are a Knight first, a mage second, show your prowess with your shield and blade and make all your enemies cower in fear at the first mention of your Order. Flesh up, cast a restoration circle, shoot your enemy with a firebolt, and whip out your sword! It's time for battle!

    Level 50 Perkspread

For the most part we have a pretty basic battlemage perkspread. The only thing in here that you usually won't see is block. Since this is a character of a knightly order the spells are really only cast at the beginning. Flesh up, healing circle, wall, cloak, or rune spells, then it's all warrior. Sword and board to the end baby!

In the end, this was a fun playthrough. I got a bit of my magical itch into my playthrough while still playing as an honourable knight who slays evil and unrighteousness.

"Children, listen as the shadows cross your sleeping hutch,
And the village sleeps away, streets emptied of the crowds,
And the moons do balefully glare through the nightly clouds,
And the graveyard's people rest, we hope, in eternal sleep,
Listen and you'll hear the whispered tap of the footsteps creep,
Then pray you'll never feel the Worm King's awful touch."
