    Level 20 Update:

I've built a crude but notable base near Top of the World. Having a base near a station (vendor) and a good chunk of the main quest seems useful so I found a quiet spot by a creek and put down roots. I quite like the building, but am a little nervous about how to find plans for things like a water purifier. But I suppose that will come. I planted mutruit, corn and tatos (veg starch / adhesive crafting essentials) down by the water and a nice looking structure with plenty of turrets up the hill a bit to guard my bes and crafting tables from the inevitable mongrel / supermutant spawns.

I've def met more unfriendly folks than I hoped. Initially I met a lot of lower level people helping each other out. But as I've gotten high in level, there's a lot of tools looking to kill and loot your scrap. Sort of annoying. Although, I just loot smarter now and return to base (or stashes) more often. I've learned the importance of scrapping and bulking to reduce stash weight.

One little annoyance - you can't rock even low level power armor till level 25. Sort of limits Role Play if you're doing a PA build.

But I've opted for Sniper, Forward Recon RP Build (I go into places I shouldn't and look around and try to outmaneuver foes way higher than my skill should allow). Secondary is shotguns (hat tip long chapper). I've built around high PER and AGI. Seems to be a good amount or running, and extra AP / fast AP regen/ low cost sprinting (marathon perk) have added to my enjoyment. I'm getting quite good with the hunting rifle despite a questionable hit box from the servers.

You know what. This game is ok. Not terrible like the reviews. And prob not great like we hoped. But fun. I'm no where near bored and looking forward to another 20 levels.

    Great update, Motty.

I think I'm level 84 now. Husband is level 150.

Hint for purifiers. Unless you've already found them.

Brotherhood of Steel join up takes you to the two locations. Just follow the main quests and you'll get a lot of the plans.

I make adhesive, but I also like sweet tato stew. Good, cheap health regen.

It's very funny, but you, me, and Amo have actually picked similar locations to camp. Though I may move south soon. Or North. I got two locations in mine, or rather, three.

Husband and I had a big problem with a group of a**holes at a blast zone yesterday. A pack of four. The leader was a level 247 di**head. Be very careful, some people have found a bug or a cheat that lets them kill without being wanted. He and his pack of goons killed both me and my husband and stole our just made stable flux. We did what you're supposed to do when someone hits and you don't want to engage, ignore them and move off. All of the sudden, I'm dead and then he's dead and nothing, they are not wanted at all. We'd respawn, not seeking revenge, and they'd rinse and repeat with no consequences. I blocked them, it STILL happened at least once more. We were forced to leave the server. Fortunately, we recouped some of our losses when the new server also had a blast site, but dammit, that was extremely not fair and husband lost about 5000 caps worth of stable flux.  I'm wearing a Hazmat suit and picking flowers, if that doesn't scream "I don't want to fight", I don't know what does. Honestly? I think we were being targeted. I guess if you observe, you start to figure out what characters are doing. Picking flowers, not grabbing all the loot, being careful, you're looking to make flux. And people, instead of just doing it on you own, think robbing is great. I don't care if that's a decision a player makes, all's fair, but shit, none of them were then marked as wanted. There were no consequences for their actions. Husband took a video and we're thinking about submitting it.

On the positive! Husband has again showed me how epic he is. Forums are a source of weapons and armor, especially pre-nerf (if you know what I mean, if not, they nerfed the legendaries after one of the patches). He purchased for me a two-shot, explosive double barrel shotgun. Lis now has a BOOMSTICK that would make Ash Williams very proud. With rank one each of shotgunner, expert shotgunner, and master shotgunner, maxed skeetshooter, maxed enforcer, maxed scattershot, maxed bloody mess, and one rank of demolition expert, the gun does... 853 damage. Took down a level 80 scorchbeast in 4 shots. It was beautifully broken. We were laughing because dammit, usually scorchbeasts are a tough battle. So now I feel way better about sometimes going solo in some of the more dangerous parts of Appalachia.

I'll update with more camp pictures and a wee video this weekend. :D

Well on the flip side, some silent player level 130 today flagged me down waived me over and dropped like a dozen legendary items at my feet in one of the railroad stations. Sooooo there are some good folks out there.

Now, that being said, as you previously mentioned the legndary drops are...heinous. unusable. garbage. so far. I got one really perfect one early on - a level 5 chameleon leg armor that suits me well for these risky sneaky forward snipey recon mission I have no business doing. But now I'm level 22 and prob getting ready for better protection.

I killed the progenitor thingy and that freaking cave system was AWESOME!

Ok I made my first major snafu with the perk cards. I love the vast array of perks, but I hate the system they have setup to apply them. I accidentally combined some lone wanderers (since I'm rarely teamed up) and it was more points thatn I had in CHR. Now I'm screwed until I hit another level. Sucks.

That's about it. I'm still quite enjoying the world and randomness more than the MQ. I've already had so many scary, fun, creepy encounters. Some random player helped me clear out an area yesterday...really he saved my skin. Stuff like that is cool. And I love finding/reading all the little notes / clues left around. They don't often 'go' anywhere but it's still interesting.

I do wish I could build a better base, but still on the hunt for plans to round out the camp.

How are you handling the new patch, Motty?

I can hear the cries of sorrow from all the snowflake gamers everywhere while I laugh my cruel "I told you so" chuckle.

All I noticed was the "known" tag for recipes/plans I already had and that it was laggy AF. Was there something I missed? It just seems to run worse. I will say, I am sort of interested in Survival Mode and to see a bit more combative PvP...if only just for kicks. But the good in this game is setting up your camp and teaming up with buddies. Since I have no regular buddies I am a bit lost for what to do right now. I'm level 38 and not really strong enough to take on Scrorchbeasts to finish the Officer on Deck requirement to move forward with the MQ (which I realize is almost over).

What did / do you do mid game?

Hmm, you're level 38 now? We should team up maybe on the weekend and we can get you started on Officer on Deck. What have you done so far?

yeah - I think I'm missing some quests inside the enclave - like do I need to go there and read something? I've just killed two scrochbeasts with a lot of help.

Ok I sorted out that quest a bit. Kill any Legnedary enemies +1. Do Enclave marked EVENTS for +1. Or a few other things. Up to 5/10 now.

Almost level 40. Trying to basically got to every part of the map I haven't seen. Pretty fun. Creepiest thing yet? Def Kanawha church / cemetary. Some weird shiz went down there.

Oh yeah, I passed that place. It be creepy. Lol, we are almost never online at the same time though.

I'm currently level 102, but I've not played in a few days, been playing Fallout 4. Sometimes, I like to take breaks.

The new maintenance update has everyone in a tizzy, of course, except me. Duped weapons are now to be removed from the world. I have a few weapons that I have purchased from other players where I don't know where they got them from, so I expect those will be gone if they were from a duped source, no way really of knowing, however, most of my arsenal will remain. I'm pleased that my husband and I turned to farming Whitesprings for legendaries as a way to stock up his vendor characters instead of exploiting the game. We worked hard, so his inventory for other players will be unaffected. We are waiting to see the backlash from this. I'm sure dupers will be very upset that their toys will be taken from them. I'll still play, of course, and maybe I'll like it better. I can imagine the anger of people who were stupid enough to purchase these duped items with actual cash on ebay.

Supposedly, they are also in talks down the road to nerf the scorchbeasts and the queen, which were only really defeatable with said duped weapons (looking at you two-shot, explosives). This is another good move on their part, make it so that endgame is more accessible. Not easy, just more accessible.
