My Random Thoughts on Fallout 76

  • November 17, 2018

Alright, speaking of awesome things. I believe that Belching Betty Mine is one of the best locations I've ever been to in a Fallout game, and definitely my favourite location in Fallout: 76. It's not complicated, it doesn't have an awesome story but the atmosphere of the mine is just...I don't know how to describe it but it was a really fun, but still kind of intimidating place to be.

The whole Ash Heap in general is a really interesting place, actually I think it might be as cool as the Glowing Sea but with more stuff in it (and less of a pain in the ass) but I've only done some of the Firebreather Questline and not much else. Anyway, the point is I think they've done a really great job making the environment feel really natural and interesting. Even just going north from the Mothman Museum has a very different feel from the more central locations around Vault 76, despite there really not being a large difference in distance. It's just something I'm admiring, the variety in locations and creatures might just be the best elements of the game.

Haven't played it yet myself, but Oxhorn review is making me think of getting g it even more than I wanted. However, I will wait a bit

Yeah, I'd definitely reccomend waiting. Despite my enjoyment of the game, I still think it's something that you shouldn't purchase unless you can get a great deal on the game. It's just so...polarizing I suppose, you could just as easily love it as hate it, so spending full price just doesn't make sense.

I've just started following the Overseer's Logs and I have to say that it's an awesome little way to move around, but more importantly I just really love how they've expanded on her. She feels (at the moment) like more of a person than just about any Fallout Character in 3/4, and it's really interesting that you never meet her. Her story isn't amazing, but it's just well developed and well written, which is great when paired with the travelling you need to do to find them all.

So yeah, I think it might honestly be the best example of the Holotape Stories (though the Radio Dramas are awesome as well :P) and how a good story can be told in Fallout: 76, so if you haven't done it yet I'd highly recommend it.

Right, so Firebreathers are awesome...not sure if I've mentioned that yet but I love the side-faction,and the Responders in general. They aren't an epic faction obviously, but they're just a very realistic, grounded faction that doesn't have any massive goals or you know...super robots or anything...at least as far as I know.

Oh I thought I'd share these run PS4 Trophey facts (according to my PS4 that is). 79% of players have left the Vault, while 92% have crafted their own weapon :P

I know that the odds are that BETA users didn't get that first trophey, but it's absolutely hilarious to imagine that some people managed to craft a weapon without leaving the Vault somehow :P

So I've decided that I'm going to release a sort of Proto-Build once I hit Level 30 (currently 21). It won't be the full blown thing by any standards, and will probably be a bit basic but I'm going to be working on how...well, how I want to structure a build with Fallout: 76. Because it's a bit weird so far, and I've made a few teeny mistakes that are going to reduce the optimal nature of the build but uh..anyway, the point is I'll be doing that soon :D

So have you guys noticed how severe the damage drop-out is the further away you are from your target? It makes sense with the Shotgun, but I noticed that the Combat Rife seems to have the same issue, and it's just something that's really distracted me recently. Is there something I'm missing with the Rifle, or is it just a weird element of the game that feels like it's designed to...I don't even know, but it's making combat feel like it has to be a lot closer than I tend to prefer.

Not sure, honestly despite my praise for the early game combat, it really feels like around Level 20 everything takes a huge leap and becomes ridiculously tough, it's just a bit baffling when I'm unloading an entire clip/magazine/whatever from a Combat Shotgun and barely phasing a Level 16 Mole Miner. Just...not sure it honestly could be my build set-up being weird but I'm just not sure.

May have something to do with the range stat of the weapon. It's kinda odd because my main (read first) character uses rifles and with him, I've noticed it as well. my Second character uses nothing but the .44 revolver and doesn't seem to have a significant damage drop at any distance... Except on when the bullet just never reaches its target even if you knew for sure you had them dead to rights. Then again, that guy does have a more consistent build instead of being my, rather usual for these games; "Let's just do EVERYTHING!" character.

Hmm, I'll have to play around with the range because I suppose that could be it. I was noticing it with a Pipe Rifle and you know how easy those things are to mod, so I'm not entirely sure if that's it...But yeah I might have to test that out with my secondary character just to see if it's purely Perk or Range or a mixture of both. Thanks for the thoughts there Tein.

Actually, now that I think about it most Pistols seem to lack this flaw. I've picked up a...Blackpowder Pistol (awesome weapon by the way) and it's got a fairly impressive damage rate and almost no drop-off. I've pretty much killed anything that I've run into with the damn thing and I don't have any Pistol Perks, it's not upgraded and I don't think it has massive range...Hmm, I'm going to have to test the shit out of this at some point.
