Fallout 76 - Gameplay so Far

  • October 29, 2018

So really minor gameplay element, but I think I've been quite interested in the idea of you being able to change your appearence at any point. I mean, naturally I really want a Lore Explanation :P But I think it's a really good example of how Bethesda has approached Fallout: 76. They've made it really easy for you to adjust things on the fly, which is something that I think is both awesome, and not great. On one hand, it makes so much sense for an MMO, and it's a lot better than if they did what other games and made you need Bottlecaps, or even worse...Atom to change your appearence.

The negative, is that we're going to need to change our style of Character Building for the game. If that wasn't shown well with ESO (and how builds never took off on the site with that game), it's just that we can change things up on a dime, and naturally Bethesda will implement patches and whatnot that could change builds on any day. Might have to start a discussion on that...

I would really like to know what the max level is. The maximum POSSIBLE would be 63 (since that's the level at which all SPECIAL stats would be at 10), but it's likely Bethesda didn't make it that way.

Apparently there isn't really a Level Cap. You stop getting SPECIAL points once you've maxed them out at 15 (rather than 10), but you still continue to gain levels and perk card packs (which as far as I can tell is great).

Awesome, I was kinda worried because I tend to respec on a dime. Really annoying when I'm playing a respec-unfriendly game like New Vegas.

EDIT: Also that link says SPECIAL caps at level 50, so that'd be about 8 on each category unless I'm missing something.

Yeah sorry about that. You can get up to 15 in a few stats but 8 is the average if you wanted to set them all to the same level. In This Topic I did a bit of a breakdown of a few common (ish) SPECIAL lines like having two/three max attributes or what looking at three 10's looks like. It's not a full list but definitely worth reading.

I think I've forgotten to mention it but I have loved what I've seen on the modifcation/weapon scrapping system they've introduced in Fallout:76. I think the idea of breaking down weapons to figure out how they work makes a tonne of sense and just makes finding weapons and hoarding them insanely useful. It's a nice little addition to the Crafting Gameplay that I enjoy a lot.

Other then that, haven't seen much else to comment on (because you know...don't have the game myself just watching others play) but it seems like the server sizes are really quite nice. There's enough people around that you can run into them but without seeing random assholes on a minutely basis or anything stupid like that.

It is a nice change since with there being so few npc/vending machine traders there isn't much else to do with the surpluse of duplicate weapons you can get. One thing I found out; the hard way, is that you can't transfer mods between items without knowing how to make the mod. I had two pumpaction shotguns one level 5 and the other 15, I decided to swap the stocks but upon crafting the basic stock on the level 15 version the upgraded stock was destroyed. I know you can find mods just lying around so as stated above I think this was because I didn't know how to craft this particular mod.
