BETHESDA NEWS: Skyrim Remastered and Old Mods

  • June 16, 2016

Hello everyone, it's Todd here with some more news on the Skyrim Remastered front!

Earlier this week Bethesda's Vice President of marketing, Pete Hines (a name many of us are familiar with by now) has taken to Twitter to talk a bit about mod compatability between the current version of Skyrim and the Remastered version. In his tweets he covered a few points that I wanted to share with all of you:

    1. Almost all mods will be compatible- the only mods that should give us some issues are one that use the Skyrim Script Extender, as it is only able to be used for the 32-bit version of the game (where the remastered version is 64-bit). This should be a simple fix though, as it would only require a few tweaks in order for these mods to be 64-bit compatible.
    2. Console mods will work almost the exact same way as they do for Fallout 4, using an in-game client to download and enable mods.
    3. Existing saves will transfer on PC. As a PC player this is huge news for me! All of the effort that we put into our PC-based characters will all transfer over to the Remastered version.

As of now this is all the more clarification that we've been given, but as always we'll be sure to keep you up-to-date when new information is more available! Thank you for reading!

Looks like I'm going to have to roll new characters.  Who am I kidding - that's what I love about TES - character building!!

I'm looking forward to it. I love that the mere annoucement of a remastered edition has sparked so much activity lately. This bodes well for the site when it's released.

I'm just joking guys. Besides, how does one remaster what is already perfect? :)
