DB's Monotype Hail Team - Pokemon (Showdown)

  • December 15, 2017

Playing against a Dark Monotype team here, and it's started off well. Got Kyurem out, got the easy boost with Z-Hail and I've dealt with Weaville who's always a bit of a threat. Bisharp has got me knocked out with Sucker Punch and now I'll go for a quick knock out with Beartic (which worked.) He swapped in Tyranitar and I decided that Avulalugg was my best option. He got one-shotted after a double Dragon Dance but got Hail up and Beartic managed to dodge the Stone Edge so Tyranitar and Absol (Mega I assume) were both defeated rather easily and there was no hope of Honchcrow and Krookidile finishing me off so he forfeited. Fair enough, but it was a fun match, especially since I didn't have to use Ninetales to get the easy win.

    Dark Monotype Match 2.

    I NEED REDEMPTIOOOOON

Alright, it's another Dragon-type Monoteam and I'm going to crush this person. Ah shit...I did it but it doesn't count. They quit after Kyurem beat their Kyurem after a Z-Hail boost.

Grass Monotype Team was my latest match and it was a weirdly terrible one for me despite the fact that I won. I just made some really bad plays I think, should've expected the Breloom start and just screwed up the start there and barely recovered. Avalugg was the hero of the day even if he didn't take anything out and was mediocre in combat, but he was a great tank throughout the match who set up Hail multiple times.

Yeah, tough match half caused by some shitty calls.

Alright, first match of the day, let's see how it goes. (My luck probably demands Steel) and it was Fire...my luck is terrible, and I hate many things.

Weaville managed to do some damage to their Mega-Charizard (Y) and then Ninetales got in, set up Aurora Veil, Hail and proceeded to curbstomp Charizard, before swapping out against their regular Ninetales to Glaceon who I hope can take the hit. Of course, Glaceon took the hit, extremely well (40% from a sun-boosted Flamethrower) actually she just took out Ninetales in general which was great even if she fell to Toxic afterwards. I think the Ice Shard she packs is definitely worth it. Houndoom was next and I threw in Ninetales just to get the hail up and try and hit Houndoom at least a bit, got half its health but fell to a FT.

Now the problem is going to be Alolan Marowak. This is purely because of it's relatively high defence...nevermind I was wrong, Kyurem's ma boy and will deal with this pest. Huh, now that's something amazing. I've never seen a Chandelure run what I assume is Choice Inferno...it's kind of baffling you know. I have no idea if I can finish of the Volcarona though, those things are a pain in the ass. HAH, yes I managed to dodge Fire Blast and get the THKO with Aqua Jet (PRAISE). Wouldn't have lasted long after that,

Fire Type Replay is over here, and it was a close one. If I hadn't dodge the Inferno and Fire Blast, I would've won (man...now I want Inferno Fire Blast to be an attack...where's my Red Eyes Black Dragon damn it.)

I'll throw another match out there, let's see what I end up with. Ghost huh, that's interesting. Gengar, Mimkyu, Sableye, Sheinja, Gourgeist and Jellicent which is a mostly annoying team. Three of them are going to pack Will-o-Wisp (maybe 4 depending on the Shedinja) with Sableye being really annoying.

Alright, Kyruem did some set up before I turned over to Glaceon after the big guy was burned and she's kicking ass. Gengar and Sableye (Mega) both fell to her might but Mimkyu managed to get off it's Z-Move and one-shot her. Huh then Weaville managed a critical Knock Off and I won the match after the forfeit. Makes sense, there was no real way for them to beat me with what was left. Jellicent was arguably the biggest problem and I would've dealt with it rather easily with Avalugg or Weaville.

Fine one last match, ooh an Electric team with Magnezone, Tapu Koko, Xurkitree, Electivire, Elektross and Manectric...huh that feels really familiar, but then I guess four of them are staples in just about every E-Monotype with Zapdos and maybe Alolan Raichu/Luxray being a bit more common that Electivire and Elektross but ah well.

I'm changing things up a tad, putting Weaville in first to get an early KO if possible. Nope, started with Manectric which is Mega and I had to sacrifice Avalugg for it. I swapped Ninetales in, she lived the Flamethrower and then I figured that Glaceon was my best bet and he decided to swap out to Elektross which was dealt with handily. She's really quite a powerhouse, taken out Magnezone as well before falling to the Fire Punches. Weaville cleaned up and I'll send in Ninetales for the Hail but she'll be taken out by Manectric. Well I dealt with it with Kyurem but then got taken out by Tapu Koko which also took out Beartic (who got an absolutely great hit in), finished off Koko with Weaville but couldn't handle Xurkitree.

Ah well, again I tend to finish off with them having 1 Pokemon if I lose which I think is a good loss. Can't think of anything that would've 100% won me the match here. Glaceon kicked total ass and it's a shame she couldn't finish off Electivire to get 3/5 but still, everything went well.

I decided to make a quick alternative team (well not that quick, it took me about half an hour to figure it out). It's fairly simple in nature. Might change a few things, at the moment I think replacing Kyruem with Cloyster is going to be my first move just because I've already got a single Scarf user, and packing two along with 3 Hail Setters is a bit much. Also, Cryogonal is a weird one, might remove him.

Eh, I gave the second team a few tries and it's just kind of...not terrible, but incredibly underwhelming. There were a couple really good members of the team that I might move onto the main one (Cloyster) but really half the team just wasn't great. Froslass, Cryogonal and Vanilluxe were all mediocre at best, while Ninetales is already on the main team, Cloyster was good and Glalie...was alright I suppose, didn't get to test it out.
