I've heard opinions on this boss are very split, some say he's an absolutely pushover and others say that he's the bane of their existence, I am of the former.
Crystal Sage is a boss found on the Road of Sacrifices, he is not optional, as you need to kill him to access the Cathedral of the Deep.
To be completely honest, I highly recommend avoiding using Sorcery in this fight as the Sage has a resistance to magic, that and when you charge your spells it is likely that he will hit you with his own, this becomes a much more prominent problem in Phase 2.
That obviously means that you should close in with melee and brute force, at the start of the fight just run towards the Sage and hack and slash at him until he uses magic to vanish. When he reappears run towards him and repeat before he can hit you with his spells and you'll be fine, but be sure to avoid any spells he casts, as they can deal heavy damage to the player. Be cautious of his tracking crystal attack, which will run along the ground and lasts for a long while, it will loop back at the player even after they have moved out of the way and towards the boss.
Any player that isn't high on Vigor or has a poor defense against melee should also be cautious of his rapier attack that he performs at close range, it doesn't deal too much damage, but it can be the death of players that underestimate the Sage's ability.
When the Sage reaches 50% health the second phase initiates, causing the Sage to create a handful of clones. These clones can be killed in one hit and the real sage is clearly distinguishable from the others due to his purple magic. The clones will attack the player with magic, they don't do much damage on their own but they can be pretty devastating when you are staggered and hit by more of them whilst you're trying to recover. It is best to kill the clones as they can distract you from the actual boss and they can attack you whilst you attempt to damage the true Sage.
Phase 2 is essentially the same as phase 1, only slightly harder due to the clones attacking the player, just run towards the real Sage and hack and slash until he disappears again, be aware that when he reappears he will create more clones.
If you require more help with this boss then you are able to summon Eygon of Carim to help you if you have saved Irana of Carim, his summon sign can be found behind a pillar in the room just before the boss fight.
A final note, the Crystal Sage is weak to lightning, so therefore any weapon infused with lightning, gold pine resin or gold pine bundle will be able to deal an extra amount of damage.
