Dishonored Lore: The Outsider

Now, while replaying Dishonored, and playing a bit of the DLC, though I do know their stories, this idea came to me. The Outsider, the humanlike being that gives Corvo, Daud, and a few others the powers you can utilize in the games. From what we´ve seen of the trailers, he gave these powers to Emily at some point. Well, what do we know> A little, and a lot.

From what we hear from some NPCs, and read in books, as well as some testimony from the devs, is that the Outsider was once human. Living some 4,000 years before the events of the game, the Outsider lived a fairly average life. Until the age of 15, where he was sacrificed by some cultists. The Void, calling to him, made the Outsider, whatever his mortal name was, its new divine occupant. The Void apparently has had many others, worshipped or otherwise. Some have lasted thousands of years, others not so long. They may abdicate their position, fade from existence, or be claimed by the Void.

The Outsider, with his runes and charms being carved out of whale bones, has been called, among other things, a leviathan. The leviathan, in Judeo-Christian mythology, is said to be a great beast of the sea, who, like the behemoth, the great beast of the land, will bring turmoil to the Earth, but will be slain, and be feasted on by the soldiers of Heaven. The Pokemon Kyogre is inspied by this beast as well. In the Void, a whale can be seen within.

One thing that one dev of the game said is that the Outsider is ¨part angel, part demon¨. He is neither good nor inherently evil. He rarely dabbles in the mortal realm, only appearing to those he deems ¨amusing.¨, such as Corvo.Attano, and branded him with his Mark. He, from her drawings, and her abilites in Dishonored 2, appeared to Emily Kaldwin in her sleep.

The Outsider cannot change his shape, and appears ¨close to how he did in life.¨

What are your thoughts on this mysterious, snappily dressed, godlike being?

Ah damn, I would have made this article if wasn't for you...But it's definitely a good first look into him

Ah, a few things I'd recommend looking into, would be the Worship of the Outsider within different cultures, especially looking at how he's treated in the Isles vs The Pandyssian Continent, from my brief examination there does appear to be a bit of a difference there.

Also, perhaps looking into the Whale a bit more could be interesting, a lot of the lore behind the Whales seems interesting enough, and looking at how it connects with the Whaling in The Isles. Don't be afraid to make some personal connections, as long as you've got something to back your logic up.
