Dark Souls 2 SOTFS Build: Smelter Havel

The overall mindset of this build is to be tanky, fast, and anti-scrublord. The reason most people don't play this build is because they don't have the skills necessary for it, but I think I will be able to show you the way.

    Smelter Havel

    Was he ever really gone?

    ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Class: Bandit. Richard O'Malley had a tough life. As a kid, his parents bought him everything he asked for. But it wasn't enough. He wanted fame, and his parents couldn't buy him that. So one day, he left his home country of Forossa, and traveled to the great kingdom of Drangleic.

Right Hand: Santier's Spear (Broken), and Grand Lance. The combination of these two weapons is extremely deadly. They are polar opposites, and just as quickly as your enemy gets adjusted to one weapon, switch to the other, and let destruction ensue.

Left Hand: Havel's Greatshield. One of the best shields in the game, I just hope you don't like parrying.

Apparel: Smelter Demon Helm, and Havel's Armor, Gauntlets, and Leggings. Well, this wouldn't be the Smelter Havel without the Smelter Demon Helm and Havel's everything else now would it. This setup gives you the second highest armor rating in the game.

Rings: Use the Royal Soldiers Ring and Third Dragon Ring to help you keep your fast roll while wearing the heavy armor. I also had the Stone Ring and Ring of Blades which will greatly improve your Santier's Spear. Swapping the Stone Ring with the Old Leo Ring will be a huge damage boost for the Grand Lance, and if you get good at it, you can switch between the two rings mid battle.

    Level 233 Stats

    VGR: 50, END: 40, VIT: 69, ATN: 2, STR: 50, DEX: 40, ADP: 26, INT: 1, FTH: 8

Early on just get your VGR, END, and ADP up to a comfortable level, while also throwing some points into VIT, STR, and DEX. Once your VGR, END, and ADP are comfy, get your STR to 20 and DEX to 22. This will allow you to wield Santier's Spear. Then gouge VIT, because your going to need a lot of it. Farming the Giant Lord can make leveling up way easier.

    Gameplay

Although this is a PvP build, it also wrecks in PvE. When you break the Santier's Spear, it gains a new moveset, and you never have to worry about it breaking again, which is useful in PvE. I prefer using the Grand Lance against bosses, because it misses less, and hits for insane damage with the Old Leo Ring.

In PvP, the Santier's Spear is really predictable, and a lot of people know how to easily parry the two handed moveset. The one handed moveset is used way less, and will easily catch your opponent off guard. The one handed moveset also has a really good rolling attack, so make sure to use that often. The Grand Lance and Santier's Spear both have insanely good running and backstep attacks. One tactic I use, is sticking with the SS for a while, and if there is some distance between me and my enemy, I will run towards them, swap to my Grand Lance and initiate a running attack (which catches the enemy off guard). With lances, you can block and attack at the same time, which is complimented your amazing greatshield.

Thanks for reading, but I gotta go pwn some n3wbs now. Bye!

This might help you visualize Smelter Havel a bit better.

Note: my pics don't work, so for now it is going to be without them.

Thanks Chris, while this isn't the most original build idea, it destroys in both PvP and PvE.

Cool, nice to see some new builds from you Vlad/Gollum,though I haven't played much DS2 (even though I own it) this seems like a well put together build, and your presentation is still solid, even without the pictures, so I'll give it my like.

Thanks, this build is pretty monstrous, but it is kind of limited because of the heavy armor. I might add my Havel Jester at the end build of this later on. It uses different armor but the same weapons, and does way more damage.

Where do I find the armor and weapons for this? Also, what are some good stats until level 100.

Wouldn't knight be a better starting class for this? I don't have SOTFS, would this build still be playable?

Yes this is playable without SOTFS.

    The armor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq6mxohINK0

The helmet you get by killing the Smelter Demon boss (he's in the Iron Keep, you'll get there eventually) and then buying it from Maughlin in Majula.

Santiers Spear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyrKWK06dKE         To get the better moveset, you are going to have to break it. It has 500 durability, so it will take a while. I just hit a wall repeatedly until it broke. It will take a long time but trust me it is worth it.

The Grand Lance you get way later in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wwioDAdAug

Early on the longsword, bastard sword, and mace are great choices for weapons. The weapon you start with is pretty decent as well.
