Cassandra Pentaghast, Seeker and Right Hand of the Divine

Cassandra is…interesting. Naturally we didn’t get along too well to begin with but I think she’s starting to warm up to me by now (that famous Trevelyan charm working to full effect). You know once she decided that I probably wasn’t a mass-murderer who had killed hundreds of Templars, Mages, Chantry Officials and who knows who else. I can kind of understand her initial disgust towards me, or at least the “subtle” dislike that she had (the whole, trying to force me to drop my weapons and fight demons with my bare fists thing was the tip-off…and the glares), but yeah kind of justified even if I would’ve preferred she talked it out with me a bit more.

To be entirely honest I still know very little of her. She’s somewhat like me in a lot of ways, comes from a family with noble roots, has connections with the Chantry and Templars in a way that most Nobles don’t really have (except those that generously “donate” to the Chantry to hide that their son was a Mage the whole time). That and she seems equally disgusted by Nobles and their “politics” though she did turn to bashing heads in rather than picking pockets…so a few minor differences. I assume it’s the Templar thing (fancy Templars are still Templars), they seem to be universally grumpy people, so I suppose her personality should be considered odd for a Templar (or Seeker), considering she’s capable of joking.

I’ll admit that Templar training has always interested me, the idea of training to fight Demons and Mages rather than normal humans is something that, well to be honest is fascinating. Even know with my slightly Mage-y powers of closing Rifts, I feel like I barely understand Mages and how the fight, I mean they seem to have dozens of spells and each one should be able to kill a man as easily as a Dragon kills…well just about anything I suppose. The idea of being some sort of Sneaky Templar-Assassin was always interesting, even if I never really pursued it…Might have to see about asking Cassandra if there’s a way I can get a bit of training as a Fancy Templar, if not…eh I’ll just try this “ stab ‘em in the throat” method that Sera talks about.

Bugger, got sidetracked again. It’s…nice to write this to be honest, gives me something to do other than the fighting and the mage-y Rift exploding and talking to people about how to fight and cause Rifts to explode.

    Dragonborn's Notes

I like Cassandra. I really, really do. She's one of the few companions that I think is very brutally honest, both with you and herself. She won't hold back (even if you enter a romance with her) and just has a really excellent balance to her character. She might not be the most fun (with Iron Bull and Varric certainly being funnier to be around) but she's just a really solidly written Companion and one of my favourite. That and I like her growth, she starts off rather seriously, never really opening up or joking around, but some of the dialogue between her, the Inquisitor and Varric can be downright hilarious (or Cassandra and Iron Bull, absolutely hilarious half the time).

From a Gameplay perspective, I think I covered some of it in Part One. I enjoy her of course, for some reason she just feels like a better tank than Blackwall (which doesn't make much logical sense,  but she just does) and she works really well with Maxwell. It's just a nice combination of defense and offense between the two, and when she ends up with the Templar Abilities, her ranged options will be really nice to add to the team.

Nice, more of Maxwell. Now he seems a bit scary, all these thoughts about how killing mages is cool.

I'm rather fond of Cassandra too, for the exact reasons you stated and I really like hoe honorable she is. That is the reason why my character is able to trust her even despite the vast difference in their worldviews.

It's more from fear than a desire to kill them or anything. He was raised by a Chantry heavy family with most of his male relatives being Templars (or training to become Templars or wanting to become Templars) so it's something that he's sort of been raised into. He fears what Mages can do, and if he decides to put that aside and still ally with the Mages, he's going to have a pretty massive shock when he deals with Tevinter-Man...who has a name I guess. Eh anyway, he has a certain amount of fear that becoming a Templar would help him avoid I suppose. At least that's how he'd look at it.

Yeah, Cassandra really is great, was from DA:2 as well (though it was a shame she never popped up in-game and just in the cutscenes).

Ah, I see. It makes sense. Though I'd still not be able to trust such a one. Fear can make people commit really scary things at times. On the other hand, this makes for a gret potential to grow and become better. It's a good, interesting story.

Yeah, Fear is definitely going to be a heavy motivator (either positively or negatively) for Maxwell, though I haven't planned any of that so who knows where it'll go exactly :P

Indeed, can go either way. Would be interesting to see.
