    Greeting Vault Wanderers!

This begins a regular segment here in Fallout Character Building. We now have 84 builds and counting between the 3 games! We've recently completed an amazing Building Event - Comic Books which brought interest from all over the site into our budding building community. Moving forward to pass the time until our next character building event,  Noodles and I will be posting weekly themed Fallout character build spotlights with the purpose of shedding light on awesome builds.

To kick off this reoccurring segment, we're pulling Unarmed combat focused builds from the Fallout 4 CB Archive. The Unarmed Category provides an up-close and personal approach to combat and can be executed in a variety of manners. Here are a few of our favorites.

    Unarmed

    The Wolverine by Chunk

One of the earlier builds in this category was The Wolverine from builder, Chunk. This crossworlds style take on the long-enduring comic book character Logan was unique in that it shied away from VATs/Sneak/Blitz combo. He really nailed the vibe from Adamantium Claws to the superhuman health regeneration. He even got the character appearance down!

Donning Greaser duds, a battered fedora and plenty of swag, Wolverine tackles the Commonwealth head on in a run-and-slice format that is fairly unique amongst our many builds.

Take a look and drop Chunk a comment and a like on The Wolverine! It's his only contribution to the Fallout CB group, and a great one.

Maybe we can lure him back in for some more :D

    The Steel Guardian by Monyx

One of two builds for Fallout New Vegas from Monyx, The Steel Guardian is a combination of one part Energy Weapons and one part chem fueled bludgeon fest. Utilizing the aptly named "Pushy" weapon with its helpful stagger effect, this Power Armor based build really has a lot of subtle synergy in it.

Check out this well done FNV Build and drop Monyx a comment and like! Support your fellow builders and hey, maybe grab a cheap copy of FNV for a nice little throwback playthough.

    The Torturer by Mottyskills

I'm hesitant to toot my own horn right from the start, but I was really happy with how The Torturer came out. I was able to exploit a new game mechanic by instantly filling max criticals with the Sergeant Ash Flamer, to setup endless brutal kill cams with the unique Butcher's Meat Hook.

The synergy in this build came from the overall psychotic roleplay of this build which correlated with the release of Nuka World. I even made my own "gimp" by taking Cait and equipping her with Grognak's costume and Axe.

Satisfy your inner Sadist with a truly evil playthrough. Upper cutting your way through anyone who dares stand in your way.

Is there another Unarmed Build that caught your eye? Let us know in the comments.

Nice feature, thanks for doing it

I've been working on an unarmed build, and - really - its just ridiculous how powerful you can be. With Rooted and Blitz you can pretty much wreck anything, and once I got Level 2 in Rooted I'm one-shotting Deathclaws!

The one 'problem' with unarmed IMO is the paucity of unarmed weapon choices. There are literally only about 4, plus a couple of legendary variants. Once I got my hands on Swan's Power Fist there was nowhere else to go really. A few more choices and variants would have made it more interesting.

Paul - 100% agree! That's actually why I went with the Meat Hook in my second unarmed build (torturer) becasue it was one of the few new ones we got wiht DLC (Far Harbor). I ran into the sae problem with my "Greaser" build, I got the power fist at like level 12 or 13 and...now what? Maybe the way to make it interesting is just using fists? But the problem there is the attack animation is so limited.

To me this is by far one of the more limiting factors with Fallout when compared to, say, Skyrim.  In Skyrim I can take a basic Iron Sword and with enchanting and potions make it a completely viable weapon.  In FO, you really can't do that with a pipe pistol.  I mean you can make it "useful" for many levels with mods if you find them or take the Gun Nut perk...but the game essentially forces you to use just a handful of weapons and you can't really count on the legendary drops for a build.  Heck I've done about a dozen builds so far either posted, in WIP or just for S&G's and I just got a weapon I'd never seen before.  Outside of Swan's Fist there are none that you can really count on as a drop which is honestly fine...but it hampers building around said item if that's what you wanted to do.

There's also the Butcher's Hook in Far Harbor, which is an amazing VATS/Crit/Blitz build weapon. The Deathclaw Gauntlet is also awesome from a roleplay standpoint, though not a legendary, and it's got a few guaranteed spawn points.

I actually played through a "Wyrdman" Fallout 4 build, where the premise of the playstyle was that the Lone Wander had mutated as a result of unknown side effects from Great War-era Military Enhancement drugs, radiation exposure, and prolonged cryogenic stasis. Being more rad resistant and powerful than before, and certainly more dangerous, had its perks, including VATS/Rooted/Blitz/Reaper's Sprint style face-smashing, but it also made him more violently aggressive and impulsive than before the war, and far too impatient to bother with things like Lockpicking or hacking.

I started out with a set of knuckles I upgraded, then moved on to the Power Fist from Swan's Pond, then a Deathclaw Gauntlet for a long while, and finally ended at the Butcher's Hook, where its Relentless trait and my high crit build met and made a bloody, teleporting murder-hurricane where every Crit in VATS restored AP for more VATS-Blitzing, which allowed him to stay in VATS until there was nothing left to kill.

He ended up taking the side of the Minutemen, simply because the Institute was the only enemy left for him to take revenge on after he finally woke up from Cryo-sleep without his family, in a new world, with a changed body. He and Cait later traveled the Wasteland hunting raiders, leaving a pair of settlements just vulnerable enough to be bait for further bloodshed.

Suprisingly - no one has posted a build based on using the Deathclaw Gauntlet! And yes - the Butcher's meat hook is great- that's the one I used in the Torturer!
