(Playstation 4 Character Build Request)   Ok, so im looking to try a Power Armor -- Survival Mode build.   I envision a character who would basically be in Power Armor pretty much all the time (except maybe while chillin in a settlement)   I don't particularly mind one way or the other whether its Settlement-minded,  I would kind of like him to rely more on Big Guns than other types of weapons.   Anyone got any fun or interesting builds with these things in mind?

First - I would check out Ponty's Build The Survivor  (and companion post) just bc it's basically a template and tips for how to tackle survival mode (if you've never tried it).

As for a pure Power Armor build to go along with it? I'm thinking you could use points from the Brotherhood style build from Ragin Cajun - mostly bc you have Vertibirds to "fast travel".

Maybe take a look at Stormblade by Amornar for the heavy gunner side of things.

    tl; dr:

I have only ~1 hour per day on average to play. I feel like I want to fit in melee AND pistols/rifles so I don’t “miss out” on anything in terms of major playstyles. Is my mindset sensible (lol?) and/or is this type of build-merging a viable approach?

What I’d like is advice on which starting SPECIAL stats+perks to go for (and why) and/or some basic logic or advice which can reassure me that I’ll eventually get around to playing various playstyles because I can always create a new game, tomorrow is very likely to happen, live to play another day, there’s plenty of time for Fallout, etc. etc., lol. Thank you! :)

    Full Post:

    Hi,

I’ve been playing Fallout 4 for about a month now but I’m still a bit overwhelmed by the multitude of starting SPECIAL configurations and the ensuing perks which become available.

I know for sure that I enjoy an assassin-type playstyle with action RPGs like Fallout 4, so as a baseline I want to go with the Sneak and Ninja perks. In terms of damage output, however, I’m torn between (and I know there’s more than just these two) the Blitz/melee and “standard” gun build archetypes. My n00b solution is to try to do both: an assassin who starts out with melee and morphs into a more well-rounded killer who utilizes silenced firearms.

Please let me know right away if this is a stupid idea and if I should instead focus on a more min/max approach. And kindly note that I am aware that there’s no level cap, so I could theoretically eventually attain every perk in the game...but for my situation IRL (limited time to play), I’d like some help crafting an overall strategy which affords a more defined playstyle and which doesn’t require 400 hours to cultivate. :P

    Here’s my plan...

    Starting SPECIAL:

    • STR - 4

Access to melee weapon and armor upgrades, some extra carry weight, and a moderate level of melee damage for early game scuffles and Blitzing.

    • PER - 4

+1 from Bobblehead @ Concord. I’d like access to Locksmith right away, and I don’t mind being 1 point past this perk because higher PER means a tiny bit more accuracy in VATS. (Plus, the Demo Expert perk sounds useful.)

    • END - 1

I may periodically add hard points to this stat throughout the run for additional HP, but nothing at the start.

    • CHA - 3

I’d like to be able to spec into Lone Wanderer on a moment’s notice; and be slightly closer to Local Leader (settlement building/networking intrigues me).

    • INT - 3

...and I’d like to be able to go into Gun Nut as soon as I’m ready to transition to silenced (or otherwise modded) pistols/rifles; and be slightly closer to Science! for additional upgrade paths.

    • AGI - 9

Blitz. Also, higher Action Points pool and access to other awesome perks (notably Sneak, Ninja, and Action Boy).

    • LCK - 4

+1 from book at start of game. Idiot Savant right away (I know my INT-3 will be a slight detriment for ordinary EXP instances, but I’m willing to save-scum for large quest EXP rewards.) More hard points here later to buy Critical-oriented perks.

Thank you for your help! :)

Looks to me like you have a solid plan. No reason not to roll with it. I like a jack-of-all trades build truthfully. The only thing I'd say is that it can sometimes make the early game a little harder when you don't specialize. The easy solution is to simply lower the difficulty level a little.

But what you have there is definitely viable, and sneak/blitz plus mister sandman/silenced weapons is actually incredibly powerful. Once you get deliverer, you won't need another gun.

    Enjoy!

Can anyone recomend a NO power armor,  energy weapon build? Would like to recreate a Han Solo type char or a Boba Fett.

Albino's The Director  is the only one I can think of off the bat that strictly features energy weapons - it does a great job of at least setting the template for perks / special stats. I'll keep looking

Maybe a little of Noodles Cyberpunk in there- check out how he prioritizes weaponry - a mini-jack of all trades approach kind of like Boba using a lot of trikeration.

Is there anything on the website that utulizes Dogmeat?  I am picturing a D&D Ranger class that has the animal friend and the other one to tame the wildlife.

I saw the Pack Alpha build for a starting point but not sure on the Commando perks. Would like to add some stealth cababilities
