Fallout New Vegas: DUST tips

    DUST

So about a week ago I decided to download the mod DUST for Fallout New Vegas. You may have heard of its successor, FROST for Fallout 4; if you have, basically it's the same deal, only instead of happening right after the Great War, it happens 20 years after New Vegas proper, in what you may call "the dark timeline". Lore aside, this game is hard as rusted nails covered in some other second hard material, and there really isn't any sort of mention of it anywhere in this page. So, I have decided to basically namedrop it so other people will think of trying it out, and while I'm at it, leave tips and tricks that allowed my character to survive. Of course, I'd appreciate it too if those who have played it posted their own advice, and those who haven't played it can post questions about perk viability and such. Advice that is judged as correct and useful will be uploaded onto the main article (with the poster's username, of course) so information is located more easily.

PS: I created this discussion here because it felt like the best place to post it, but if it's not quite the place, I'll be glad to move it elsewhere, as directed by whoever knows that stuff. The same applies to any changes that would be made to the discussion's format (the "moving the information to the main post" thing I did so people who wanted quick and easy access to the information could get just that, but if it's considered a foie gras, I'll remove it.)

tirrene: If you are having trouble in Burned Bulls Camp (because you started at the Legion safehouse or whatever reason), note that for some reason enemies won't follow you into the general store. There IS a tribal there, but if you manage to kill him, you can just wait until you are Hidden again, walk out, sneak VATS the closest tribal, and walk back in.

tirrene: You probably suspect the sewers are gonna be hell (on account of seeing loads of ads about how great and safe they are). Well, they are horribly hard, filled with DUST-enhanced Ghost People and have no way to get out until you get to the end. Come prepared. Also the way to get out of them is SPOILERS: There is a safe under the Thorn's Monument. Grab the Master Key in it, go back to the beginning area, and there you should be able to go back to the (probably cannibal-infested) surface.

Looking forward to this Tirrene! I just got back into Fallout after a break and could see myself going into DUST or FROST after finishing my communist inspired build.

Well, you may be glad to hear that in DUST, you can get a perk called "Communistic Wisdom"! The perk itself isn't really that good, it gives you a small EXP boost in exchange for crippling your already incredibly limited bartering capability.

Sadly, I have decided to abandon DUST. The mod, not the thread; I will keep mantaining this baby for a long while. However, if you want some strange advice (and the reason why I quit this mod), this game doesn't give handouts; hell, if you go for the "vintage" start in the Legion Safehouse, it gives you the grand total of a single crappy pistol with 2 bullets, a tire iron, a couple throwables and sum BEANS. That is perfectly fine by me. However, what I don't accept is when the few things it does give you just don't work. I managed to snipe off a couple NCR soldier boys north of Ghost Town, and I found a really sexy-looking Marksman's Carbine on them. Well apparently the game didn't like that, so it decided that I couldn't use Hand Load rounds on it (which, sure, I barely use them anyways, I only got it to get cartridges), and even worse, that I couldn't use crafted junk rounds on it. Regular junks worked fine, it's just the ones I made that didn't work. There's a difference between artificial difficulty and the real, hand crafted, bloody difficulty that this game had been giving me up to that point.
