Hub Roleplaying Profile Guide

Title of your profile (can be the name of your character or a title)

Insert art depicting or representing your character. This can be a screenshot, fan art, or anything in between. Art is helpful for giving an image in the reader’s head, even if the appearance section is fully fleshed out.

Backstory: This is where you describe your character’s past. Feel free to be as lengthy or brief as you want. However, you should attempt to keep it above 100 words and below 1200. After all, the readers didn’t come here to read a short story (though you can always link a short story as a character’s backstory if it is applicable. Just make sure to add in a synopsis so that this spot isn’t totally blank). Make sure to highlight the things that shaped your character, be they scarring events, family events, deaths, or others. This is important to understand what makes your character unique.

Optional: Insert another screenshot, piece of art, etc.

Appearance: This is where you can describe what your character looks like. You can’t always make a character exactly how you want in a character creator, so here’s where you can clarify exactly what your character looks like. Be sure to answer questions like How Old? How tall? How much do they weigh? Any scars or defining bodily/facial characteristics? This should ideally be a compact section, filled with little details providing insight into your character. However, this section can also be changed depending upon your character. For example, a mysterious character could have a very limited appearance section to help illustrate how little is known about them. Or a heroic character could have an inflated, egotistical appearance section to illustrate how they have been deified by the general public.

Optional: Insert another screenshot, piece of art, etc.

Inventory: This section is where you describe the special items your character carries with them. They can be anything from weapons to toys to pieces of scrap. Be sure to explain where they came from and why they are so important to your character (alternatively, this can be explained in the backstory). They could be objects from the character’s childhood, something they picked up in a heated battle, or the remnant of a dead lover. This section is essential for indirectly showing the little quirks of your character.

Optional: Insert another screenshot, piece of art, etc.

Personality: This is an optional section. This section is where you’ll be answering questions such as: What is their outlook on life? Are they funny, serious, or somewhere in between? What do they like to do in their free time? What characteristics do they have that make them unique? This should go as deep as possible into your character’s psyche, without making it into an essay. Ideally this section should be shorter than a backstory, but longer than appearance or inventory.

Optional: Insert final screenshot, piece of art, etc.

Notes/Other/Closing Thoughts: This is another optional section. Here you can list anything that doesn’t fit into the other categories. This can be a place where you list your inspirations, sources, or anything unrelated to the actual profile (i.e. I’ll be posting my next profile some time next week, stay tuned).

Following these guidelines will result in a high-quality, efficient profile that tells us all the cool little details that make your character unique. Please leave any feedback you may have about how I can improve this guide. This will likely change in the future to be more clear and/or helpful.
