    The Forced Evolutionary Virus (F.E.V)

An analysis on the lore surrounding the F.E.V

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey all. This is the result of something I’ve been meaning to do for a very long time, which is my own Fallout lore article and it also happens to be my first major contribution to The Tamriel Vault.

But before we get on to the article itself, I’d like to explain what criteria I used to identify a reliable source and what I have completely discarded, so I like to think that this article and possible future ones are as pure as they can get, limited only by the information available to us as of this moment.

To avoid lore contradictions and further problems, I have directed my studies solely to the dialogues found in Fallout 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas, holotapes from those same games plus terminals you may encounter during your travels in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and of course, the plot of said games. You may be asking yourself why I haven’t used Chris Avellone’s Fallout Bible, and my answer is that according to the man itself it is no longer considered canon.¹ Even though Todd Howard and Emil Pagliarulo mentioned they used the Fallout Bible as a base for the creation of Fallout 3, I judged it was better to attain myself to what was presented to us in-game.

Though disregarding the Fallout Bible has significantly decreased the amount of lore contradictions I could have encountered, they were still present. In an attempt to resolve them and present the information contained in the games in a clearer way to you, I have condensed them into one logical assumption/outcome.

I’d also like to call your attention to the dates and events in the Fallout universe, since they were the biggest contradictions I encountered, especially during the first part of this article. As a way to remedy that, I’ve put said events into one logical order, with the outcome of them remaining unaltered. What may have been altered was the date that the developers initially intended for these events to happen, but that to me could be changed so it would become more coherent while keeping to the established lore. Even if those dates ended up being modified, it was between a very little time frame, ranging from six months to a year at most.

Now regarding the way I’ll be presenting this article and future ones, I’d like to openly recognize the influence of the many TES lore masters here on The Tamriel Vault; they were a great inspiration for what I have made here. So if any of you are reading this, thank you.

I’d also like to ask all of you readers to report any grammatical errors ASAP, since English is not my native language.

Thank you for reading this, and on to the article: I hope you enjoy it, I believe you’ll l find it to be very informative.
