Is anyone aware of any lore surrounding the existence of coffee in the post-war era?

Don't know about written lore, but I think it wouldn't be too out of sorts for there to be coffee. We have other foods that are canned or packaged that are only slightly irradiated, so I imagine some canned coffee grounds and dirty water would be a plausible but disgusting cocktail.

Right? You'd think it'd be more plentiful considering the abundance of pre-war coffee supplies. I don't know if Boston is quite the optimal coffee-growing environment, to be fair. But considering how ubiquitous coffee is in pre-war society, you'd think it would have made an appearance as a new, mutated super coffee. I might  also wager that people value purified water more than caffeine if I was optimistic about the human condition.

Since every male character you create in FO4 has to be a soldier at some point, can we consider there was a forced mobilization at some point to enlist every available civil male? Is there any information about this?

Back in my parents's youth military enlisting was mandatory for all men after turning 18. You'd first train at a military base for a year or two and only after that you'd go to college.

Interesting question Ryo - I haven't seen or read anything specifically in Fallout lore regarding a mandatory draft for civilians. But as Noodles points out, history is full of such examples. Maybe Me. Edd or PCTY have ideas...

Yeah this is an interesting question, though I'm not sure if there is a basis within the lore for answering it. Noodles' example seems like it would make sense, but also if you consider the number of troops required to fight a war on what is essentially one very small front, and with the advancements in tech with Power Armor, I don't think that mandatory service would HAVE to exist. But if you consider preparations for full scale war in the Chinese front, it is possible. Another thing I think is more likely than forced service would be something like a volunteer militia for each Commonwealth. I think it just depends on what view you want to subscribe to.

Well, military service is still mandatory in my country after you finish your education.

In lore wise, mandatory service could be execuse for making characters that are not suited for military, morally or physically.

Ah, my bad for assuming you were American like me! But yeah, that's what I meant, is that if you needed to use it for a story or build or something, you could say that because it is plausible.
