Roleplaying Discussion: Nora and Nate

I don't like the locked back story, though try to live with it.

So far, Nate has been a SWAT cop, dishonerably discharged, in the army as a cover whilst he works for an intelligence agency, a double agent for China, a stay at home dad and, of course, a soldier. I've never played him as retired from the military and about to get a civilian job... The idea depressed me.

Nora has been a housewife (wolf mama was pissed), a Chinese samurai, in the army, a teen mother married to a family friend for the sake of old fashioned values (I liked this one, I couldn't get around not being suicidally devastated at the loss of a husband she actually loved) and a synth.

I guess a little bit of imagination and covering your ears whilst saying "lalalalalalala" during certain dialogue can help to a degree!

It's so easy to find more restrictions the more you think about it as well. To be ex military, at the point of retirement, Nate is likely at least in his mid to late twenties, and without modding there's not really a lot of choice about him also looking like a poorly aged 40. Nora is going to have done a degree and moved on to law school, and she's clearly now had some time off as well, so it's not that likely she's shy of 30+. And, of course, you've been married - that's a personal, religious and social choice that has been made for you. You've also been married to someone of the opposite sex, which is a pretty big forced decision.

I have cleared-vault 111 saves I start from so I can skip the intro now, so references to my past self only occasionally pop up in dialogue... and the inescapable main quest...

I had Nate as a Ex-Spec-Ops officer or a Military contractor(one of my great uncles was one). of course you could say NCIS agent for Nora. the Government would cover up the true occupation of your characters.

Naugrim said that in the mod FROST(the sucessor to DUST) Your character wont have a set backstory so PC players have something to look forward to.

I've been playing a build where Nate worked for a secret government agency and Nora worked for the CIA, and that the agency that Nate worked for eventually became the Institute, who would kill Nora in order to keep Nate's cover. Then I would go hunt them down as revenge. So far it's had some pretty fun moments, like realizing the child you had together is now the head of the agency you once worked for, building up a new agency through a faction, and finding weapons that you tested pre-war. It's been the most fun I've had in an RP.

That's pretty interesting. I may use this for my character, if u don't mind.

Go right ahead. I guarantee that it will be a pretty fun play-through!
