WiP Character Build: The Corpse Maiden

  • April 15, 2018

The idea for this build is very simple, and there honestly isn't that much to it. I wanted to examine the perk 'Undead Crown' as a form of intensely interesting, Undead Healing and the interesting builds that it can make. The entire idea of the build is to be a melee-distance spell-caster that relies on Disease Damage from Ordinator's Restoration tree, summoned creatures that are heavily buffed just for existing near you with effects like Preservation and Rallying Standard.

Black is the night when The Corpse Maiden rises, her twisted mind hunting down the dead, the decaying, the bodies of fallen soldiers. She stalks the night, prowls through the province, all in order to discover that succulent corpse that shall provide her a new masterpiece to work on.

Her craft is as genius as it is evil, her foul Necromancy taints the very land that she walks upon and the mountains themselves quake at the thought of her deathly figure stepping upon their slopes.

The Corpse Maiden's story is not a sad one, nor is it a particularly understandable one.  There is no great evil that defines her life. No great sacrifice that turned her towards the art of the Undead. Simply a woman who desired power so very much that she's commit the gravest of offences, pollute the world with yet more evil just to gain this power. She is not a hero who has descended into madness, nay she is not really mad at all. By day she walks amongst us, seemingly a completely normal resident of this fair land, and none could point her out as anything but a beuatiful young woman.

If one were to stumble across the Corpse Maiden, I have only this small piece of advice. Either run, or be ready to forfeit your life.

    Race: Redguard or Breton

    Redguard

    • Dust Storm: Killing humanoids briefly improves weapons and spells.
    • Nomadic Heritage: Resistance to disease, and infinite Stamina out of combat.
    • Tenacity: Increased Magicka and Stamina regeneration at low Health.

Quest reward - Win 30 battles by slaying 3 or more people to unlock...

    • Red Sand Dance: 1/day - Greatly slow time while sprinting for a short time.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Standing Stone: The Lover

    • Secret Admirer: The Lover periodically gifts you a random enchanted weapon or armour.
    • Undying Love: Cheat death when slain, returning to life with full Health. This effect has a 15-minute cooldown.

    Unlockable...

    • Lover's Kiss: At will - Target is magically bonded to you and can be called to your location with the Lover's Call power.

    Mods:

Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim. Ordinator's kind of the biggest requirement for this mod. I'd say that you could possibly play the build without the other mods (except maybe Sacrosanct) but some of the perks and effects that Ordinator supplies are just too good to pass up.

Apocalypse - Magic of Skyrim. As I said, this is technically skippable and honestly there's only one spell that I'm really playing around with here, and that's Power of the Master, which should allow me to give my minions a flesh spell, making their AR even more ridiculous. I might test out the Undead Summoning perks, but I'm not entirely sure how well they'll fit the characer (maybe as bosses for the minions...not sure).

Imperious - Races of Skyrim. I just really like Imperious, so I'm using it. For this build I think there might be a lot of benefits to taking Redguard for Tenacity and Dust Storm, with the latter being...maybe not useful since I don't know if my minions killing enemies will trigger it. If not then I'll be changing that to Breton or Imperial, but generally speaking, there's cool shit to go around regardless.

Andromeda - Unique Standing Stones. So really, I just liked the idea of Undying Love and I didn't see much point in taking any of the other stones. This character just sorta suits the idea of Undying Love even if there's a lot of the rest of it that she doesn't really need. That said, Secret Admirer could be really good depending on how it works (if it's levelled and thus in the late-game I'm getting good equipment regularly.)

Sacrosanct - Vampires of Skyrim. I'm not entirely sure on this one but I'm going to give it a test run and maybe work some of it into the build. I think this character would be the best possible choice for me to run with Sacrosanct (which...I cannot spell for shit), at least more than my others.

Wildcat - Combat of Skyrim. MOAR COMBAT DIFFICULTY.

The perks for this build are utterly fascinating to me when examined in conjunction with each other. The key set of perks is probably the Conjuration Perks, or really it's more just that these are the perks that form the core component of the build while everything else (in some manner) is designed to boost and generally enhance the effect of our reanimated minions. Rallying Standard from Heavy Armour gives a fairly significant boost to our minions, with either 150 AR and 25% increased damage or 300 AR and 50% increased damage (depending on whether they stack...which I think they do). Commanding Presence from Illusion will give them 160 AR and 40% increased damage, along with a 40% increased crit rate and 40% magic resistance. Though it's important to note that we do need Master of the Mind for this to effect our undead minions. Still total we're already at a possible 460 AR, 90% increased damage, 40% MR, 40% increased crit rate...oh and an extra 500 for the first 60 seconds of their life thanks to Preservation from Conjuration. That's right we're really looking at some insane rates of boosting already, and that's not even getting into our healing ability.

But this is all late game. Early game will be a true challenge I think. Not impossible by any stretch but definitely not easy.

That's a great perk choice man. I love how it flips an established mechanic on it's head. Instead of hiding behind them, now you need to be within melee range of your zombies because they rely on you. I can't wait to see how you develop this concept.

We'll see how it works, I'm pretty excited to play this one to be honest, but I'm not entirely sure that I've got the time for this Event. You know how it is, real life getting in the way and at the moment I'm in a busy period with Uni (got enough free time to be active here, but just not enough to play Skyrim). I think I'll turn it into a full build if I can't quite make it by the end of the period, I really wanted to work in Vancian Magic a bit more, Conjuration could be really fun if I took it further and I'd quite like the idea of moving Block or Illusion into the build.

Honestly, yeah I might just change it to a full build because honestly there's a lot of fun to be had with the idea of taking it further...Not sure, but that's my thought process right now :D

Yea, I feel you man. It can be tough when life gets in the way. Plus, I could see this build having a lot of potential beyond lv20. Either way I have it followed now so just comment about updates so I don't miss them!

Heh, yeah just went through what perks I might want if I were taking it to closer to Level 50, and well...after looking at it, I can't not play it to that level. It's absolutely going to be a fun build beyond what it might've been from the Level 20 form.

Right, so I've hit Level 13 after a pretty decent night of play. I've actually decided to work in Destruction through the Blood Magic Spells from Sacrosanct because they're super bloody fun to add in. I won't be perking it, but it's a decent alternative to the Plague Restoration Spells which I'm not really close to getting and if it weren't for the fun of it, I might drop it out.

Hell yea man, Hemomancy is awesome! Plus, the Starving Artist perk synergies so well with Undead Crown. If you inflict your own zombie with Blood Seed and stay near enough to heal them then you basically get free health for the both of you (not a lot, but it can be continually repeated). Blood Brand is even better for kamikaze attacks (instantly restoring a good amount of your health) and sturdier minions can even survive the explosion and recover surprisingly quickly as long as their in range of Undead Crown...so it might be a nice sub for Corpse Gas (which is a rather costly perk to get).

Hell, strategic use of Hemomancy may very well be a good substitute for both the damaging and healing spells from the Restoration school simultaneously. Plus, Blood Scourge spreads to nearby enemies upon death (which is hit or miss if enemies aren't close together), but using it on your own zombie is an easy way to ensure that the most enemies are in range when it spreads.

In fact, this could be a good substitute for A Plague Upon Thee (since it's such an expensive perk to obtain). APUT is a slightly stronger, but only affects the enemy that landed the killing blow on your zombie while Blood Scourge infects anything in range. Plus, it'll heal you a base 5pts for 15sec per enemy (with several different ways to buff that number)!

Finally, I'm pretty sure Commanding Presence will affect any reanimated allies that weren't tagged as "undead" prior to dying. So like, zombie bandits will benefit from Commanding Presence, though Draugr Thralls will not. That could drastically cut down on the perks you would need to invest in Illusion since Commanding Presence is pretty easy to obtain (only requiring two perks iirc).

Honestly, I think Hemomancy may be your secret weapon for making this an event build. Now that I see the kind of interesting combat you're aiming for I think you could easily achieve it by lv20 just by cutting a few things that are redundant now that you're a vampire. I mean there are some cool perks that might require going past that (like Protect Your God) but considering how well established your core concept would be then, they're kind of a no-brainer for anyone who chooses to continue playing your build.

Speaking of your "core concept", did I mention that I absolutely love it? You really encapsulated the heart of the Undead Crown perk by using your gameplay to develop this really fascinating symbiotic relationship between your character and their zombies. I mean, I was expecting interesting combat but I didn't think you'd delve so deep into the vibe of the perk and infuse that into every other aspect of the build. If that makes sense? Lol. If it didn't then just know that it was intended as a really big compliment!

    I'll respond by paragraph :P

Yeah, I've been playing around with the Hemomancy, but I'm only playing this one as a regular Vampire so I'm not going to be getting any of the Vampire Lord perks, which, well means that my Hemomancy is going to be damaging only, I don't get that sweet draining effect from Starving Artist. I think I'm going to give the full Hemomancy experience a proper trial with a Blood-Starved Vampire after this because holy shit does it sound like a bit of fun to really be a bit of a Feral Vampire rather than what you are normally.

Honestly, I think Hemomancy may be your secret weapon for making this an event build. So I have designed a Level 20 Version of the build, it's something that I'll be testing out, fiddling around with more but the basic idea si that I'm going to submit that for the Event and this build later on. The Level 20 version isn't quite a build but more of a... dunno something. But honestly, the perks in Illusion, Alteration and Conjuration are just too good for me to cut out of the build, things like Feed the Monster, Crown of the False King, Quadratic Wizard and Welloc's Dormant Arcana are just really good. I could theoretically remove some stuff, but I'm really interested in the full version honestly.

Speaking of your "core concept", did I mention that I absolutely love it? Nah man it makes sense, that was the general idea that I was going for so I'm really glad that you saw that :D

Theres also an enchantment in Sumermyst expansion by enai that buffs your minions as well, based on your distance to them. it's like 100 extra health and 25% attack damage. I used as one of my main enchantments for "The Stormrider" build I did, really useful. looks good btw man hope to see this out soon :)

So it does... Damn, I was going to go no crafting but that does fit...Eh, not sure, I'm going to install it and see what the base (Grand Soul) version of the enchantment is, because yeah that's too good to pass up...maybe. Thanks for pointing it out Furrion :D
