WiP Character Build: The Lovely Flower of the Desert

  • February 12, 2018

It's surprising how many beautiful things are truly deadly.  Everyone can sing praises on the beauty of the oceans, but we all understand that for most people they're just as deadly, with the threat of drowning, getting caught out in a storm, capsizing, dozens of different ways to be killed by the ocean. The Desert is yet another thing, though to be fair its beauty is rarely compared to the Ocean by anyone outside of Hammerfell, it's still a song that should be sung nonetheless. The way that the light bounces off the sand, the way that dunes rise and fall just like the waves of the ocean. Even the way that it stretches on, forever changing but never truly ending is just beautiful.

There are two things more beautiful than the Deserts. The warm embrace of Fire, and of course ME, Nahra, the truly beautiful desert rose who blooms even where rain cannot fall. The dancer of Alik'r who's beauty makes both men and women cry tears of joy, a Lady who's beauty dazzles even the blind and whose sheer love radiates off her like heat radiates from the desert floor. Truly, it is I who is the most beautiful in the world!

This build is highly interesting, formed from a combination of Unarmed Combat, Fire Abilities, and general badassery. So let's start with the basic ideas, Unarmed Combat is the primary early-game style of combat that really just becomes stronger and stronger the further we go into the game, while also having a lot more utility and range. Huh, oh yeah you heard me, range. As in, this character can function extremely well even outside of the basic range of fists.

The inspiration is pretty much all given form from Paws or Phil. He discovered a lot of the tricks that I'll be using to make this combat style and was the one who was originally going to design a build based off the Firedancers that are mentioned in what feels like a single ESO item piece. So basically this isn't a build without Paws, and I wanted to pimp out The Moth Priestess while I'm here, because it uses a lot of the same tricks with Spellscribe (or at least, he discovered a lot of them while testing that build).

Spellscribe is a unique Enchanting (40) perk that allows you to store any targeting spell, and then release it with Power Attacks or Power Bashes. It isn't single-use, but it does have a cooldown that's decreased the higher your Enchanting Level. What this means for this character, is that whenever we use a Power Attack, we can also unleash a wide range of spells to essentially gain the range of a Mage without ever needing to swap out and equip a spell. Oh, and you never need to put points into Magicka, because Spellscribe doesn't actually use Magicka. The only buff that Spellscribe gains from other perks is that you can use it twice before the spell goes into cool down mode.

Sooooo, you know what's hilariously fun. Punching things until they die, and with Ordinator it's entirely possible. The basics are that the more Stamina you have, the stronger your damage, while also providing a few methods for enhancing your Power Attack Damage, Movement Speed, and Stamina Regeneration. Funnily enough, the latter two are also things that Light Armour perks (for the armour itself) will boost at the same time, meaning that you can combine your armour and damage perks to work off each other.

The key perk is going to be Hissing Dragon, a really awesome perk that allows your normal attacks to unleash a shockwave of elemental damage, meaning we can punch out fire. It is a perk that we can only get later on, but basically, it would let us unleash powerful magical attacks for both regular attacks and power attacks.

That's all for now. Obviously going to move in some other stuff including images. I do know it's looking a bit plain at the moment but I'm going to be spending a fair amount of time trying to get this one looking just right.

Looks good so far! I haven't really used much of Spellscribe, tbh :p

Thanks, Wulf. I haven't really used it personally yet, but it does seem pretty awesome from Phil's notes on it.

Looks really cool D, I was toying with an unarmed Spellscriber myself recently. He ended up grabbing dual wielding daggers instead because I realized that the Hissing Dragon perk counts as casting a spell so it cancels out Spellscribe. Unfortunately, using both was going to be a large part of the build.

I did realize that a dual unarmed power attack counts as multiple quick attacks so it will cast double cast Spellscribe if you have the Power Echoes perk, so it might be fun to use perks/spells that focus on powering up on successive hits (like Fracture or Flash Fire).

Spectacular opening art! Nahra is right, she is hot! Maybe a bit conceited, though :D I like the font and where you're going with this.

Good to know about the dual welding and Spellscribe, dual wielding being the only thing I didn't play with when testing that perk. So I wonder if Hissing Dragon will also mess with DB's idea.

Just a teeny bit conceited yes, what can I say, the person that Nahra loves most is Nahra and she doesn't mind letting everyone know. The font so far is just the basic banners, going to try and find something a bit fancier for the 'Main Banners' you know.

Urgh shit...eh I'll just skip Hissing Dragon I suppose, it's probably the least important part of the whole set. Thanks for letting me know though Tyso

How is this little passion flower coming green along, Mr 1921?
  • February 24, 2018

    Not at all :D

Well I hit Level 10 but then had to skip over for a few weeks and when I came back I really wanted to try out something that would involve (almost) the entire Restoration Tree and I've been playing that recently. Just got False Light and the...concentration anti-undead spell from the Perk. Anyway, having a shit tonne of fun with a Resto-Heavy build and it's just put me off playing this for a bit.

Right?! Those three spells are pretty insane. Holy Hands does a fuckload of damage and has that TESIV touch spell thing going on, which is cool. But those beams from Sunblast are just awesome :D Like, Merid's rays from your palms. Steller Core is just insane, I remember dual-casting that in Skuldafn and watching slowly fly towards a Draugr Death Overlord and just wrecking him when he failed to spot the damn thing.

Yeah, Resto can get insanely poweful now. It levels so quickly, too. I found that by having a healing spell saved with Ocato's Recital that would just insta-cast whenever a red dot appeared on the compass, I'd be raising the skill and not even know it. I'm almost sad i didn't get Tome of Many Pages now. Using that and enchantments instead of perking Heavy armour could have been fun. But I did test, sadly dual casting seems to have no effect beyond extending duration, so it remains a flat +15 to whatever skill.

So is this for a new Deebs project?

So is this for a new Deebs project?

Ah, my Ocato (because yes...I had to run it :P) is set up a bit different. I decided to try out Tree Rings which adds in 10 layers of 'rings' that each currently gives me around 25 extra Health, only lasts about 30 seconds but that's more than enough for each combat. So essentially I'm running in at 500 odd Health where my base is merely 200. Soon I'll be picking up Overflowing Cup which with my current Close Wounds would add another 200 odd  Health for the first 20 seconds meaning I'd be running into combat with well over 750 Health, possibly hitting a couple thousand by end-game.

It's pretty insane to be honest, but I'm running this base (105) Magicka as a Breton with the Atronach Stone, and I've never been forced to actually stop using my spells. It's kind of crazy but because of how it works in Andromeda, I gain Magicka based on the level of anything that I kill (within a certain distance) multiplied by 4, which at Level 19 kind of means everything above 'Bandit/Draugr/Skeleton' is going to restore my Magicka to full. Oh and I've got...whatever perk it is that lets me regenerate my Resto Level in Magicka upon entering combat and I've just got Crusader's Fire so my Magicka is almost never empty just because I regenerate it so much with insane perks.

Also crazy as shit, but I'm managing all my spells for under 10 Magicka at the moment just because of some crazy combinations of Mastery Perks and other Buffs. At least my Restoration ones.  It's just, everything is crazy at the moment Phil. Crazy defenses just because I have so much Health it's hard to keep me down, the offense is easy (doing around 100 damage against anything that tries to fuck with me). Urgh and I'm not even halfway through the build.

Yeah, this is definitely a new project for me, not sure if it'll end up as a build at any point just because  I don't have a character right now for it because the idea is kind of strange. Like my character is essentially an Offensive Cleric, maybe turned Death Knight (so I can pick up on the Disease Spells for AoE while using False Light enforced spells for individual targetting) by the end and I don't know if I want to test my luck running a Pure Gameplay build this late into the game. Maybe if I were posting this three years ago, but uh, yeah why not actually...

Might get around to it yeah, it's just such a fun playthrough that I have to do something with it. Just not sure if it'll be Build, Modder's Log (starting at a very specific point so it's really interesting), maybe a story or RP Profile...hell might just end up being tonnes of T&T Articles. Got no idea :D
