WiP Event Build: The Skyrim Militia

  • February 2, 2018

For the Elevated Origins event, I decided to go with a humble guard who rises up to be the leader of a militia that fights to protect the rights of Skyrim's people. They swear no allegiance to the Legion or the Stormcloaks, fighting instead for the freedom of the common working man. You'll start out as simple sword and board guard who hopes he can make a difference in his homeland. Then, you'll work your way up to being the commander of a small force of Skyrim's citizens. It's a very story driven build and you'll have a real sense of progress when you get that new member or you've finally saved up enough to buy someone some new armor. With some help from Ordinator and any multiple follower mod, you can become the leader of Skyrim's new protectors.

"Rise up sons of farmers and daughters of housewives! I will lead you to a better Skyrim! She will be free from the rule of the Thalmor and their Imperial marionettes. She will be free from the Stormcloaks and their "High King" usurper. Follow me if you wish for a Skyrim free for all people; a land where no one lives in fear of brother killing brother. Skyrim has no need for the Empire's laws nor the rebels' bloody insurrection. I am not so high and mighty as a legion's general or a city's jarl. I have been beaten by the cruel hand of both Tullius and Ulfric. I am common folk just as you; I have been nothing more than a guard for many years. I know of your plight, so I extend an offer to you. I ask not for soldiers, but for any willing hand to join my cause of the people to fight for the people. Protect those who you know as kin. We will fight for Skyrim's betterment and each day the laborers of Her land will live in peace. So rise up! Rise up ye sons and daughters, for liberation awaits!"

    [Perk Spread Here]

I'll drop by with a proper comment (recommendations and thoughts) later but for now, I have to say I'm really, really interested in what you're doing with this idea. I mean, I don't know exactly what perks your going to choose but if I recall correctly there are a few Block and Heavy Armour perks that work with AoE AR boosts and things of that nature...Any ideas for skills/specific perks yet?

Yeah, I'm pumped for this idea, focusing on bandit fighting, using Multiple Followers (low tier ones as well) and I assume working your way up to a Thane? Or not, either way sounds cool and I think it'd really work to go around recruiting townspeople...you know, grabbing Sven, Erik the Red, Faendal or people along those lines, would be really cool. :D

I do have a few perks already in mind. Even though guards wear light armor I'm gonna go for heavy armor and probably block too. Rallying Standard, Lead the Tempest, and Hold the Line all let me buff my allies, so I'm for sure taking those. Then I'll round it off with one handed and maybe archery too. No magic, I'll be a simple man. I'm gonna focus a lot on side quests. Just helping out the People of Skyrim. Mostly ones for taking out bandits as you said. I was originally against going for Thane, because this character wants to lead Skyrim down a new path, but maybe I can spin it like he's convincing the Jarls to be on board too. I'm really excited for this.

This is a really interesting concept, can't wait to see how this will turn out!

Damn, just between the three of them you'll be getting pretty high up there regarding team AR, adding in Smithing would only boost that more. I'd think about trying to boost damage as well...actually nevermind, with Rallying Standard and Warbringer I think you could get a 50% boost from having two of them active at the same time, that could be pretty interested to try out.

Heh, yeah no magic works pretty well here, I mean I could probably argue for Illusion (Courage Spells + AoE passives) but it wouldn't fit the character that well. Hmm, that's an interesting idea...Eh nevermind, just a random thought but there are definitely a few skills that would work well here from a gameplay perspective.

Sign me up for a traumatically scarred guard who after experiencing a dreadful raid dabbles with more unruly recruits on his force until he eventually devolves into what he sought to stop and put an end to. Somewhat breaking-bad esque, minus the drugs.

I'm sure my team will pretty hench with the AR boosts considering the fact that if they're getting buffed by Rallying Standard, they're already wearing heavy armor. So far we seem to be doing solid enough damage as a group without even having Rallying Standard. We'll be OP once I get it. I thought about Illusion too, but like you said, it doesn't fit. I'm going for a simple skillset with just Block, Heavy Armor, and One-Handed. Pretty hard to level block when the enemies focus on your followers and not you though :(

I finally made a little bit of progress writing this. I should've been done playing it by now, but instead I'm only level 8 because I haven't been able to play much. I should have enough time to finish it in the next few days hopefully.

Good to see you're still working on this.
