WiP Character Build: Heroic Spirit - Assassin

Right, so Assassin is theoretically the most simple class in my opinion. They stab you in the back with [insert weapon, weapons or ability here] and then slink away in the night. The idea behind them in Fate is that the class isn't technically suited to close combat, and for the most part cannot stand up to another Heroic Spirit in a direct fight. They would (and constantly are) be obliterated by a Saber, Lancer or Archer class servant, can rarely do much to Rider and really can only fight a Caster in close combat.

But, that means nothing. Assassins are not meant to fight Servants, hell they're not even supposed to fight anyone really. They're meant to kill their enemies. Not fight them, that would be suicidal for most Assassins, no there job is more akin to slipping a blade across someone's neck or through their guts. And that...is really boring for the most part. So instead my Assassin is one of the few that is there to fight in close combat, who's meant to throw down in a fight with another Servant and absolutely pulverize them.

    The Build

Race: Breton (Technically any is possible, but Breton for...Imperious reasons)

    Stats: ? Magicka, 1 Health, 2 Stamina

    Skill: Sneak, Light Armour, Alchemy...

    Standing Stone: The Warrior

So I figured I should drop in about The Warrior. Ultimitely it provides benefits for this class that are far outstripped by even the Shadow or Thief stone when you take into consideration that I'm using Aurora - Standing Stones of Skyrim. The ability to ignore a massive portion of damage when entering combat and being able to invert your Health, Magicka and Stamina percentages (so if your on 20% health, you'll swap that around so you've only lost 20% of your health). Oh and a quick boost to Power Attack damage which isn't useless.

    Servant Stats:

    Strength - D

    Endurance - D

    Agility - B+

    Mana - D

    Luck - C

    Noble Phantasm - A+

    Sevant Skills:

Presence Concealment (B+) - Presence Concealment is a class skill of the Assassin class that allowss them to completely hide from their enemies unless they're directly attacking someone or is revealed by some other means. Assassin's B+ ranking allows her to be indetectable as a servant (unless doing something clearly impossible she will appear to be just a normal person) and enables Assassin to dissapear from all senses with some difficulty.

    Noble Phantasms

_______ (A+) Assassin's most notable skill in live was the ability to blend in to any crowd in order to finish their mission. The ability to appear and disappear, at times with different faces, different cover stories, essentially as a completely different person is one that has extended beyond life as a Conceptual Noble Phantasm. _____ allows the Assassin to slowly use the greatest ability of an enemy she's fighting at the time, and permanently learrn it and utilize it to the extent of his opponent. If it fights a Saber that has more skill than they do strength, then  Assassin would be able to copy that skill and use it against Saber and any other foe she fights.

The limitations of ____ are that she cannot copy Class Skills, she will not gain any ability beyond the rank of A and she cannot copy anything from an opponent that could be described as an Anti-Hero.

    Closing Notes:

So, to be completely honest, at the moment Assassin is a pretty flimsy character. She's got a single ability (NP) that makes her somewhat unique for a Fate character, even if there technically is a somewhat similar skill (that isn't as powerful). But I'm not entirely sure how to allow Assassin to function as an actual build, the gameplay is still really rough because this...well so far he's more of a concept, a freaking fun concept for my story, but not a developed build quite yet. At the moment, I have to figure out if I want her to be anything other than what he is now, which is a potentially unfair, bullshit level opponent (he could theoretically end up with A ranked skills in everything and function as any class) depending on who he fights in the story.

I don't know...Because the story and build are seperate but the same (same character, but obviously build Assassin can't fight servants in-game) I'm just having a bit of trouble figuring out where and what to write her as.

Is this with Ordinator or something?  The ratings threw me off, not familiar with those at all.  I think if I go back to Skyrim it will be with Ordinator or something similar so very interested to see how builds like yours play out to give me some insight to the new rankings/perks for those add on mods.

Yeah, so I still don't quite get the Fate thing, but what I am reading is that the Assassin archetype here is different from the normal DPS, more foccussed on the one hit kill. Whatever the case, it seems like a good chance to reinterpret the idea of what an assassin is and what can be done to present her differently. Yours is a brawler by the looks of it, somewhat reminiscent of Letho of Gulet, maybe, from that intro scene for Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings. That big bald dude, sneaking and delivering the kill savagely, yet still able to go toe to toe as a Witcher. That's a fairly interesting interpretation as far as it goes. A more feminine Letho...?

Was Letho in the Witcher 3? Honestly, I still haven't played the other two games because the first one would heat up my Laptop to the point where it felt like it was about to burn me. But yeah, the general idea of a Fate Assassin is that they're either going to kill you when you aren't expecting it in a single shot, or they're going to die in close combat against any other Servant.

Really this build is kind of based off of Kojirou Sasaki, at least in regards to the fact that she'll actually be able to fight in close combat but only at the end of the build. Early on she'll be as weak as a normal Assassin and won't be able to beat anyone unless she gets the drop on them, but then she'll absorb skills from enemies she beats and eventually will be able to fight 'normally'.

Ah, it does use Ordinator but none of the ratings are from Ordinator (if by ratings you meant Strength, Agility, etc). My mods effect a lot of things but not the core mechanics of the game. No those are from the Fate series because this series of a build is a crossover rather than just inspired by the Fate Universe. It's a 'world' I'm creating that takes elements of both.

Hey Deebs, I know you're busy and all with Host stuff, but you ever gonna come back to this series?

  • May 15, 2018

Oh definitely, not with Assassin because I scrapped the story aspect of the series but I am going to eventually finish off with builds for each of the classes. At the moment I do have two builds that I want to complete before starting any other projects and they are

The Corpse Maiden (Full Build Version) and The Lady of Worlds.

Until they're done I won't be doing anything else, and honestly they might be awhile. So I am, it just might not be anytime soon Chris :)

Shame to see you scrap the story Deebs. Well, gives me an oppertunity to write my own. May expand it to a Great Grail War just so I can have fourteen Servants running around fucking things up, give Gailon and Morihaus a rematch, etc.
