Sweet writeup, LotF! I never really thought that much about it (I tend to hunt them and make them 100% dead in my playthroughs xD), but those are some compelling, well-supported thoughts. Excellent work as always ;D

Forgot to mention this yesterday, but this article has graced the TV Twitter page :D

The most famous vampire, Dracula, was stated to be a form of undead. Blood gave him power and gave him an extension of life.

I'm reminded of a quote from Hellsing Ultimate stated by Integra Hellsing, "Blood is the currency of the soul." Whenever Alucard, who is Dracula, drank someone's blood he'd gain their soul, trapping it within himself and thus gaining their power.

"Blood is the currency of the soul..." Makes you think about, if the victim dies from being drained of blood, if their soul and power is added to the vampire, as by drinking blood in TES lore the vampire appears younger.

Not sure about the soul thing in TES, but otherwise that was basicaly my line of thought here. Blood is a powerful thing in TES, basicaly acting as a conduit for magicka in plenty of rituals and stuff and with what we know about Magicka you just have to wonder if magicka = life force, thus vampires could basicaly drink magicka.

On the other hand, we also know that soul could equal magicka too, so your line of thought is not completely out of the picture, it is just more difficult to back it up considering we know that being drained by vampire can be painful but not everytime you are killed by it - the Volkihar´s or any other clan´s so called "cattle" being a proof of it. And I think that being drained of bits of soul could be quite catastrophic for not only a mind but also a body.

I have a feeling that if vampires could drink magicka, raw magicka, that would be... strange. Not only would they get power but I feel they'd get drunk or high off it. I'm imagining the magicka ingame as diluted because the raw magicka is being mixed with the spells like Fireball and whatnot. But I could be blowing smoke out of my ass.

As for the soul sucking bit, that's if the vampire drains them dry thus killing them. And having bits of it drained away... yeah who knows how the person would act...

Just like to say interesting article Lorc, and very well written. I also wanted to validate your point even more by referencing the spell Equilibrium in Skyrim (basically converting Life Energy into Magicka) furthering the idea that blood is indeed powerful in TES. Some cool things to get the mind thinking here!
