It looks like simple questions that can be answered in about a sentence may not be allowed anymore, it seems like things that can only be explained in a page are fine. Nonetheless, I'll ask my question anyway.

Why aren't Dragonborn immortal despite having dragon souls?

Actually what Teineeva said is true this question is very complicated I would like to take it and expand on it but I 'm not sure if I will be able to finish this one due to lack of time. That being said I will give you a very brief answer and also what I believe regarding this matter.

The Dragonborn is connected to time gods like Akatosh, Tosh-Raka, Alduin who came from the one Time-god Aka (he was split into many other smaller parts later on and hence came the other "time entities") who came into existence after two other let's just call them entities before him. So you have:

Time god Aka who was split into smaller parts or something like that at some point --> then other "smaller" time gods coming from parts of him came about like Akatosh, Tosh-Raka, Alduin etc --> the you have even smaller parts which are Dragons, Dragonborn and who knows what else...

Now, because all of them are split parts of this time god Aka they possess progressively smaller power and thus the Dragonborn is not strong enough to be an immortal.

Following this train of thought we can also tell that absorbing dragon souls is like absorbing a "part of time-god power (don't know how to phrase this better :P)" and going by this what if at some point we could grow strong enough to absorb an even greater part like Alduin's soul and become a time-god as well even though the starting point was a dragonborn? :D

What I said here might be wrong but this is what I have gathered from other lore articles and some of these things have sources within in game books some information can be found at the songs of pelinal whitestrake books i think but it was quite some time since I read them.

Oh, Tein, the F in my username is a capital letter. :)

Do we see any dragon actually resurrect themselves? As far as I can remember the only person actually capable of resurrecting a Dragon beyond the Skeleton of one is Alduin who's a God and has some sort of power to transition between Sovengarde (Death) and Mundus (Life). I don't see any logical reason that a Dragonborn could resurrect themselves, but I could see it being possible for Alduin to bring them back...maybe, but that'd be stupid of him so.

Purely in-game events as my sources.

Ok, guys. Let's stop that right here and either get it into a proper commission or start this as a discussion on its own. This is the kind of situation I wanted to avoid with the Expedition Committee, so I'm afraid this is going to be a bit of an example. If you're afraid it might turn into a discussion, get it out of here. I want to keep this place clean and clear for people interested in asking a question and for people looking for a commission to work on. If you want to discuss stuff beyond that first quick explanation take it to the discussions, please!

@Ebonslayer - It could be possible but you would need someone a step above you with a stronger nature or part which is a Time-god like Akatosh or Alduin to resurrect you and call your soul back, you won't be immortal on your own and resurrect whenever you want.

Edit: Oh, apologies Teineeva I didn't get it when I read the topic and thought that this was the same as the other lore question post but people could also take a commission, feel free to clean the comments and we can take them to the other lore discussion. I will also throw this here Click Here :D

Eh, sorry Tein, I hadn't realized how long the thread had already gotten on that topic :( It'll probably take me a bit to adjust and all but makes sense.

Hey, no problems guys. I actually really like the topic and would love to see either a proper discussion or an article going deeper into that subject. I'm not sure we actually have an article in the archives discussing this problem and I can't say I've never asked it myself. But I just don't want it here, should have been clearer about that.

Been meaning to pop in and say that this is really frggin' cool! If I actually had more stable Internet, I'd love to whip up a few articles, and may do so anyways. For now, though, I do have a nifty question...

What are the general differences in biology between the races of mer and men beyond the obvious (e.g pointed ears, different skin tones)?

  • November 11, 2017

Ok Teineeva sign me up for this theme as an expedition I will also write about the general Theogony dating back to Anu and Padomay and this will also eventually give an answer as to why the DB is not an immortal. But because this whole theme is pretty big and the sources are scattered here and there so if I 'm not mistaken it will need quite a bit of research  and due to work it might take me a bit longer to complete it (I would say 20 days or something close to that could also take less) if that is not a problem then I 'd be happy to write this one since it is something I was interested once a few years back and I am still interested to it.

Man, I'm sorta tempted but that's a really hard one to cover. If nobody picks it up by tomorrow but it'll probably be relatively short and aimed more at the ages and some of the Creation Myths. Dunno, that sounds like a hard one but I'm really interested in studying it and picking it up.
