Welcome back to the Lore group everyone, I know you guys are probably busy with the event right now. Why wouldn't you, right? But I wanted to bring something to your attention.

I've been looking into a cooperation of sorts with a YouTuber known as Imperial Knowledge. It's a growing channel with a lot of potential and some high-quality videos. Imperial Knowledge, or Zorkonov as he goes by on his Discord, shares my appreciation for lore discussions and debates and has fostered a community around Elder scrolls lore and his videos so I thought he could be a good fit.

Anyway, back to business; the Imperial Knowledge channel will be holding a lore debate at the end of the month and Zorkonov and I were wondering if any of you guys would be interested in joining in.

All of the information is given in the video here:

There are only 6 places available and participants will be randomly selected from the applicants. There is, therefore, no safeguard that you'll be able to join in but I recommend that if you want to give it a spin you follow Zorkonov's indications. If you decide you want to participate, I would like for you to also post a quick message here. So that I can know if there is interest in similar things in the future.

So let's summarize the rules of application shall we:

    1. You need:

-An average to good level in English. For the Vault members, this is mostly a reminder as I trust most of you would indeed qualify.

-You need to have discord, creating it is free so don’t worry about the cost if you don’t have it. You can use it on phones and on pcs

-You need to be at least a bit into TES lore, which if you are here I doubt will be a problem.

    2. If you qualify to all the criteria and you want to participate send an Email to ImperialKnowledge@hotmail.com. The subject of this Email will have to be: Lore Debate. And the mail needs to contain the following

-Your reason for joining in the debate

-Your favorite video of his so far, if applicable. For Tamriel Vault members that didn't have the chance to view his videos yet, it is acceptable to mention you're coming from the Tamriel Vault. That being said; I strongly recommend Imperial Knowledge's videos to any of you.

    3. An extra little rule for Vault members is to post a quick comment here to notify me you decided to join in. This is mostly so I can plan things for the future.

Have fun, don't hesitate to apply for the debate and watch some of the videos on the Imperial Knowledge channel. A lore video based on one of the theories from the Vault will soon appear on the Imperial Knowledge channel as well so keep an eye out for that, alright?

    Further information:

    • The subject of the debate will be given to the chosen applicants on the 22nd of September. After the subject is released the participants will have a full week to dig deeper into the subjects.
    • For those interested the debate will be streamed live and if everything goes according to plan a pdf summarizing the debate will be provided afterwards as well. More information on the time of the stream etc will be available once the applicants have been chosen.

Exciting! Though I don't think I can really join the debate (despite the fact that I want to), it's something that's not only really cool, but also could bring more traffic to the site. So, good luck to anyone who does participate!

Interesting, this sounds fun. Unless we're debating Arkay, I'm not sure I can offer much, but I'll think about it. Are there logs of these debates so I can see how they've gone down in the past?

Good job Tein! This seems very worthwhile, a proper beard-bristling lore debate to get our muatras nice and sharp. I am sorely tempted.

I've added some extra information that I got from Zorkonov. So don't hesitate to give that a quick look.

Sadly there are no logs of the previous debate. Zorkonov planned to make one but to his taste, the first debate was a bit too chaotic which made it a bit difficult to do so. In order to prevent such problems this time around, Zorkonov has restructured the debate a bit so everything should go over smoothly.

I hope that answers your question Legion.

No problem, I love the idea of a good lore debate.

Oh man, I'd love to jump in and participate with this one, sadly I'm going to be busy around the 30th and won't be able to participate but I'll have to keep an eye out for more debates.

Here's food for thought on a prospective debate title: What are soul gems?

Whilst on the surface this seems to be a very simple question, think about it.
UESP has very scarce details on soul gems as they are, save for that they can be found on magical practitioners and stores that sell them.

But what type of gem are they? It's obvious that they're crystalline in nature... so what prevents a mage from converting a regular gem, found in loot within Skyrim or dug up from ores, into soul gems?

Or aside from black reach, which contains the soul gem ore, are there no other deposits that contain soul gems found within Skyrim?
If one notices closely, even the soul cairn, which has soul gems or crystalline structures that resemble soul gems, growing from the ground, are not harvestable.

If the above mentioned are true, then where do the vendors and mages get their soul gems from?
    Think about it...
