    “To all scholars of Tamriel,

The House of Orsinium Glories calls upon your aid. It has come to our attention how little we; the scholarly community, actually know of the creatures that inhabit Nirn. Many of you most likely came across works detailing how to harvest certain materials from slain creatures or if you ever quested for a spell, how to kill said creatures. How many of you have ever taken the time to observe the creatures the warriors so mindlessly slay?

We; at the house of Orsinium Glories, have decided that it was enough. The time to mindlessly slay all that comes in our path needs to be put behind us. If we are to ever understand the world we live in, it is an absolute necessity we understand the creatures that inhabit it.

It is for this simple reason that the House of Orsinium Glories has made the first step by creating the first ever true bestiary, focused not on teaching its readers how to kill but on showing them the natural marvels that hide behind monstrous façades, or quite the opposite in many cases. This work will eventually house the combined knowledge on all the creatures that roam Nirn.

Which brings us to the aim of this missive that you’ll find plastered on the doors of all institutes of magic, all houses of knowledge and all inns from Glenpoint to Lilmoth. To achieve this goal it is paramount that all those engaging in scholarly pursuits and all those who hunt these creatures for a living or for sport send their knowledge and observations to Orsinium.

Here we will combine them into the work of the era; The Mysterium Bestia

    -Friendly regards,
Matthaeus Belladonc, Resident Biologist of the House of Orsinium Glories.”

Welcome to the Lore group my fellow scholars. Before we proceed I would like to formally introduce myself. For those who aren’t aware I’m Teineeva, I’m the new co-host of the lore group (I say new but I’ve held this position since January). Now that that’s out of the way let’s get to the real stuffs you’ve come for:

I am a biologist (or at least I’m studying to be one) and as such it was quite the surprise to come to the conclusion the Lore Archives of this site house next to nothing pertaining to the creatures and flora of the Elder Scrolls world. There’s plenty of articles about the metaphysical aspects of the world, but let’s be honest apart from Phil, (Karver and me) who really cares about that stuff?

I can tell you one thing: if that had been my first introduction to the world I’m not sure it would have been the same experience (it might have given me a great old headache to begin with but would ultimately still enchant me like it has always done, but we’re getting off point).  Therefore I want to get back to the lore that everyone playing the games has access to: the things we can see or hear simply by stepping of the boat in Seyda-Neen, stumbling out of the imperial sewers, riding a cart to the executioner's block or apparating out of Coldharbour (ESO is weird).

If you hadn’t guessed it this event is about one of those things every character in the Elder Scrolls will come in contact with: creatures. We’ve all slain hundreds if not thousands of them by now but today I’ll be asking you to stop and observe them for a while: study them. What do they look like? What are their characteristics? Why would something have these characteristics? And so on. Of course that doesn’t mean you can’t dive head first into a pile of books, quite the opposite in fact.

    Rules:
-Your findings have to be formulated as a lore article. You can do it in from your character’s perspective or from your own; it doesn’t really matter.
-All articles will need to be posted between 27-03-2017 and 09-04-2017 12pm Central European Time (that’s what you get when both of your hosts are european :p)
-Articles should be named as follows: "Mysterium Bestia: title of your choosing".
-Those that post a completed article with the tags: "Mysterium Bestia" and "Event Article" will receive a beautiful badge made by our beloved Lorc.
-Has to pertain to a creature found on Tamriel; aka Akavir is excluded and so are the other continents. A good place to start would be to pick a creature from one of the games.
-Pertaining to the previous rule: creatures that dwell majoritarily in oblivion like scamps, daedorths etc will not be considered for this event.

    Guidelines and hints:
-Play the old games if you know your creature appeared in that game, speak to people about your creature if at all possible; not all lore is contained within books.
-You could compare two creatures that are similarly named or compare two appearances of the same creature (aka regional variants).
-You could also go for the different influences (cultural, culinary, craftsmanship...)of said creature on the races of Tamriel; for example different uses of the creature by different cultures (Similar to my nightshade article even if that didn’t focus as much on the cultural aspect).
-Try to find an explanation for strange features about the animal, in this case some real world biological knowledge might be helpful (a lore scholar mindset works wonders as well).
-Don’t hesitate to contact me or Karve, we’re always ready to discuss any theories or hypotheses you can throw our way.
-If you want to get some guidance on your article don’t hesitate to post a WiP in the workshop, if you drop a link here Karve and I might very well drop by from time to time to help and give you some pointers.

Recommended lore sources you could take a look at:
-Kyne’s challenge: the story of a group of hunters as they track nearly every creature on Nirn.
-Anything with Bestiary in its name

That's what you get for not giving me a title! xD

Great to see Aelberon of Dusk (fuck the accent I always misplace it, sorry Liss) join in on the Bestiairy fun.

I have no idea what I want to do but as a huge Elder Scrolls lore buff I am really interested in this event. Will brainstorm article ideas. Do we sign up for a creature so we don't overlap? Great event idea btw!

Well, we both know he's known his share of biologists and has high respect for the study, knowing well the menagery of Crystal-Like-Law. Perhaps we may even see a short story, who knows. But yes, definitely the lore article.

Overlap shouldn't be a problem for some of the more well documented creatures as it will most likely give us different perspectives on said creature or maybe the articles will approach two different aspects of the creature.

However, if you decide to go for say something that only appears in one source and none of the games it will be first come, first served. In short it isn't forbidden but I wouldn't recommend it.

Shall I put you up as "Undecided" for now then Amornar?

Fantastic choice, gotta wonder where you'll take those cute little buggers. There's just so many ways to go with a lore article. As it is your first don't hesitate to put up a WiP over in the Workshop once you get a bit of an idea as to what you want to look at specifically, Karve and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Hmm, this might be an interesting opportunity for Aurelin to write about one of the bothersome creatures found on Vvardenfell. Cliff Racers are a pretty obvious (and plentiful) choice, but there's something to be said for the humble Scrib, too...

Oh, Gnewna in all her glory! Yes, yes, yes, please! :D

Cliffracers are an obvious choice, true, but Scrib...I think that if you go with Kwama in general you might actually have more stuff to write about than just one stage of Kwama. What do you think?

Excellent! Love the zoological art used for the presentation and am excited to see a new LG event, it's been a fair while since the last one. The tags made me laugh too!
