Altmer Part 5: Piecing Together the Thalmor

Vaz, you won't be happy unless.the Thalmor turn out to secretly be superheroes who have been singlehandedly preventing the world from being destroyed by a cartoonishly evil version of Talos. :P

I think these 'parallels' are a bit of a stretch. Vix, once, tongue in cheek, compared Elder Scrolls lore to My Little Pony's lore . The parallels were there; it was a bit uncanny in a scary sort-of way. But  I rather see the next elder scrolls in Equestria, than in MK's vision of the series. Seriously, if Bethesda decides to ruin the series by taking the route the MK took in his C0DA, then that's the time I'll be done with Elder Scrolls. And I think a good percentage of fans will follow me. I'll guess we'll get our answer somewhere around 2018 +/-

And why are we ruining Vix's wonderful Altmer articles with this fan-fic comments?

Yeah, I mean, it's kinda sad when crossover fic's make more sense. Granted, many of said fic's are well written, but I digress. Also, I want that as a mod, or as a fan game. Hmmm, since I'm a game designer in the making, I could do that. Anyone have a mod title?

People keep bringing this Kirkbride guy up, and I really don't know (or care) who he is. Stuff is either canon (in the games) or not (not in the games). Everything else is fanwank.

Kirkbride was the writer for every game until Morrowind, and he left after the game was done.

Actually no, I'm fine with them being villains. But I don't need some bullshit about their intentions to destroy the world to justify that.

Trouble is, MK's "fanwank" keeps cropping up in-game. He cannot be dismissed and there is no "canon".

Technically MK left while Morrowind was still in development. He also did some contract work for Oblivion & Knights of the Nine.

His past association with BGS is the reason his fan-fiction has been so popular.

And, if we Kirkbride's work is canon, then my headcanon is canon aswell. So, in time, Tamriel shall become Westeros, or is on the same planet as Equestria and the other countries that border it.

First of all, Vix chose to write all of these race articles based on races that were generally deemed "least popular" by most Elder Scroll fans.  He also chose to focus on those that were non-human, but did not have time to finish them.

Vix was not a Thalmor propagandist, and I take umbrage with any who would suggest so.  He actually took the time to read the texts and apply a critical eye, looking at things from a non-human, non-Imperial, and non-Dunmer point of view.  He actually tried to treat in-game lore as a historian would look at it, not some emotionally charged simpleton who thinks all Altmer are "stuck up bastards" instead of looking at why the Altmer communicate the way that they do.

Also, Altmer do not automatically equal Thalmor.

Personally, I appreciate dimension and depth to all races in the Elder Scrolls.  If Bethesda chooses to make Altmer evil in subsequent installments, I shall be deeply disappointed because it will be a failure in what the games have done right, which is create ambiguity and room for multiple viewpoints and understandings of cultures, not so unlike real life in my opinion.
