It is my pleasure to welcome you to the first article in my new series documenting the Maormer within Elder Scrolls Lore.
The question we all asked...
So, what actually is a Maormer? Well supposedly, they, as with all Elves, are descendants of the Aldmer which inhabited Aldmeris before they came to Tamriel and split off into their many forms. The original belief is that Maormer were outcasts from Summerset Isle/Alinor. However since transcriptions of Crystal Tower Tapestries we have a different view on how it is likely that Maormer came to be.
Pyandonea
The tapestries depict that it is more likely that back when the Aldmer lived back in Aldmeris, their immortal king called Orgnum was a wealthy businessman who used his money to start an uprising in Aldmeris.
The powerful leaders however banished him and his followers to Pyandonea using a great mist which became a barrier. They never bothered Aldmeris again.
From this, it can be devised that Maormer may be the last civilisation on Nirn that is aware of Aldmeris' general bearing and possibly location.
Orgnum
Orgnum himself is a Maormer, but he is in fact said to be immortal. Whether this is true or not is unknown, but several things are known and speculated about him.
What we know:
- Every attack launched by the Maormer onto Summerset Isle has been lead by Orgnum himself.
- He was a wealthy businessman in Aldmeris who was banished with his followers.
- He was involved with the War Of The Isle, in which he met with Queen Potema in Solitude before attempting to launch an attack on Tamriel. He told Potema that if they took over, he would make her Empress. They were unsuccessful.
- He owned/owns a Magical Coffer Box which spurted out more and more money every day. It is believed the Coffer dissapeared before the War Of The Isle.
- When he was pushed back onto Pyandonea by the Psijic Order at the end of the War Of The Isle, he dissapeared and has not been seen since.
What is speculated:
- His translator is fluent in all languages of Nirn.
- He is in fact an incarnation of a Redguard God called Satakal.
- He rides Sea Serpents.
Appearance
Maormer are known to have famously see through skin and regular elvish pointed ears. They have a regular range of hair colours from Blonde-Red-Brown-Black-Grey and heavily decorated themselves with jewellery.
Eyes are supposed to be purely white, however the modded oblivion pack shown above does not include this point. Skin supposedly feels like rubber and jelly to touch, and shares many qualities with both of these items. Their skin can involuntarily blend into a background, much like the Forest-Coupling skills that the Bosmer possess, as Bosmer occasionally involuntarily blend into Valenwood trees.
Skills
It is little known what type of skills Maormer possess, however Orgnum was renowned to be an incredible Wizard of sorts. It is believed they would share similar traits with modern day Altmer due to their heritage.
Appearances
Until now, Maormer have never appeared in an Elder Scrolls Game, but they will be a non-playable race in The Elder Scrolls Online!
