Lets Geek About Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is a fantastic game, no matter what the haters say. I'd absolutey love to hear your guy's absolute favorite moments, quests, or occurrences that you've experienced in this game. Just something that made you stop and think "I love the wasteland". I'll start it off: I believe I was somewhere near Four Leaf Packing Factory, and the location was unique in that there was a construction site with some Super Mutants on it (not the really big one, theres a smaller one) and right next to this was a river and on the other side of the river were some docks. Well I was playing my Ringleader character build (go check him out :P) and there was a vertibird fighting the mutants too. I popped some jet and puleld out my missile launcher and just as the vertibird started going over the river I shot it down. The cool part was that as the vertibird spun around in the air a BoS Knight landed on my side of the river and the others landed on the docks on the other side right before the vertibrid crashed only inches away from me. What followed was an epic clash against a BoS Knight amongst shipping crates all while getting fired at from across the river by his comrades. Epic. Random. Fun as hell. Please do share your experiences!

I deleted the game, that was easily my favourite moment :P

Ah, while I might not be the biggest fan I do love Diamond City and the Glowing Sea. The first time you walk into Diamond City and you just see what Bethesda created there just made me stop and pause, it definitely beats any City in New Vegas or F-3 for me, the only negative is that it's kind of the only place like that. Oh and the Glowing Seas is just one of the greatest locations in a game I've played for ages (beat only by...well the entirety of the Witcher 3, but you know, other than that :P), just the feeling of stepping into the Sea for the first time and taking it in, it's honestly one of the best moments in my life as a gamer because holy shit is it awesome.

Eh...suppose I could have been more positive but those two are really awesome locations/moments IMO.

Haha you made me laugh with that first part Dragonborn XD

But yes Diamon City was certainly a homerun (pun intended) for the creativity in Fallout 4. Aesthetically I love it but I gotta be honest I'm partial to Goodneighbor purely because of the idea behind it and how it ties into everything. Definitely a cool moment when I first came through the "gate", even if I did almost have to pay for "insurance" :p I'm glad you pointed out the Glowing Sea though, it's strange to find something so barren as something that's beautiful in a way. First time I went in all I could think of was how sweet it'd be if it covered the whole southern part of the map. Regardless there are still plenty of nooks and crannies hidden away. I always feel like I'm on a whole new planet. Thanks for sharing, Dragonborn :)

I like Fallout 4 a lot, it might not be an opinion that is shared by many people but so be it. While it lacks a lot of RP elements and I have started to hate Nate's voice (time for a Nora playthrough I guess), it does manage to get its story across.

My favourite moment in the main questline (spoilers ahead I guess) is when you finally meet Shaun. From the beginning I had been dismissive about the whole "my son's not even a year old" story, there was no way that held up. As such getting to see a 10 year old Shaun was a little victorious moment for me; I was right (fuck you Nate & Nora). However, this also meant that eventually meeting Shaun was a punch in the gut: I had been tricked, lured into a false sense of victory only to be cut down. I had to seriously compliment the writing team there.

As to my favourite place... If you know what type of story "The Streets of Boston" is, it will come as no surprise when I tell you the title belongs to the Third Rail bar over in Goodneighbour. The overall atmosphere, the rude british bartender robot and of course the music, where should I start about the music? Walking into the old metro station for the first time and coming to the realisation that the music I could hear coming from down the stairs was "live" music was fantastic. I'll still nip down into the Third Rail every time I'm in Goodneighbour just to listen to one of Magnolia's songs as I order a beer.

Fallout 4 was an amazing game, I've three completed characters and recently started it up again for a fourth.

As many have already said, the main quest is amazingly written - it's one of the only games where I havn't guessed the ending correctly about half an hour in. My favourite part besides the amazing good gameplay is that provides an excellent atmosphere to make creative work on - something quite important to this website.

I think the moment I realised how good was as I stepped into Diamond City, I just looked around and couldn't process the amount of detail in it, how well it was designed - the only downside was that I fast-travelled back to it so often (Because I couldn't find any other towns beside Goodneigbor....) that it soon lost it's amazing appearance.

As with many good games, I look forward to the  next installment when they can hopefully improve it!

I'll disagree with Will and say it "IS" an amazing game.  I haven't been engrossed with any other Fallout until this one for whatever reason.

With raiders, etc still dominating the countryside I think the fact there is only one major settlement (Diamond City) that this makes perfect sense that it's the hub of the commonwealth.

I haven't finished the game yet, been working on a couple of builds and doing my main playthrough with another character that I'll do a build on after the contest.  Still, this week I found a quest for Jamaica Plains...I wanted to kill the mayor myself after finishing that quest and reading the back story in the janitors terminal.  And running the Nuka World gauntlet....I'm still troubled (as noted in my post on that) how anyone could WANT to work with the Raiders and finish that dlc after they tried to kill you.

So, lots that I like and I'm really enjoying the game.  321 hours down (per Steam) and still going strong.

I do wish they had more voice options.

I gotta say a very little moment (or a few) that make me really love the wasteland is the noir feel you get walking under the sign for Nick's detective agency. It just makes me feel like whatever little side quest I'm on is a lot more important than it really is.

Honestly that whole section of the main quest itself just totally tossed me all around. First I see what I believe to be Shaun as a child. Yay I've found him. Then come to find out my child is now older than me and the LEADER of the very organization I was sure I was supposed to despise. Then once I saw the sheer awesomeness of the Institute I had a total opinion change on the "boogeyman of the Commonwealth". Well written, beautifully created, and all around unpredictable. Just the way I like it!

You got me with the Third Rail, Teineeva. It's so "off to the side" that when you stumble across it you're really caught off guard. Definitely one of the main reasons I prefer Goodneighbor to Diamond City.

In my personal opinion, I believe if they got just one more great city that was semi between the scale of Goodneighbor and Diamond City then it would be spot on(and no I don't count covenant as one) because quite frankly I agree that Diamond city, despite how cool it is, becomes rather stale after awhile. I could best compare it to how I felt with Whiterun, it just became a place to go dump some equipment and turn in a quest. However my remedy for this is that I'm doing a playthrough of a character that basically never goes to Diamond City and instead relies on caravans and small settlements. Maybe it'll bring some zing back to the city for me

I'll agree with your disagree Will :p I think one major problem people are having with Fo4 is that it's not how they want it and it's not as flexible as Skyrim, which I think is foolish because all that means is that we the players have to get creative in how we enjoy it. Fallout 4 rocks

If I'm being honest the Jamaica Plains quest let me down (as it was supposed to). A reward consisting only of "unique" garbage? what a bummer xD

And that truly is what the game is about, right? Making your own fun and finding a ways to mold your own importance into the wasteland around ya in whatever way you please

I so wish you could set settlements everywhere or anywhere sans mods.

The Libertalia area is so cool.  I really like the way they did that area.

Also the Nahant Wharf area in the little cul de sac with the church and the beachfront property.  Sweet.

Hey John, I didn't see your comment till just now. I do like the options the game gives you but more freedom would of course be more fun. However I'm pretty sure there are actually mods out that allow for more open ended settlement building. Idk what platform you're on but it's worth cheecking out

Hmm some favorite moments (not already said):

    - Taking the Castle (first time taking out a mirelurk queen): In my very frist playthrough I sided with the Minutemen. This felt liek such a "yeah we did it" moment
    - First Vertibird ride - seeing the wasteland fro above was pretty dope
    - Running across a Bohemoth for the first time...and actually surviving
    - Running ops with Deacon. One of the better characters/followers especially if you've got a covert character going
    - Fixing Cait - I really grew to like her and battling through the vault to clean her up felt pretty great
    - Getting a Legendary drop that fits your character: I had a guy I was playing as a shotgun specialist and got an explosive combat shotty pretty early on. Just don't get too close!
    - Probably the best part of any open world game though is Wandering...just wandering. And there's plenty to see!

It still baffles me that some people think Fallout is a bland game, there are plenty of awesome moments that I'd trade a battle with Alduin for any day! My current character is 100% avoiding Goodneighbor and Diamond city and basically just being a wanderer/loner and my God is it fun. I have to craft everything on the spot, running into caravans is fantastic since I can finally trade some goods and get much needed ammo, and it's just so great. The game was desgined for aimlessly wandering

I've tried to play like that a lot as well and I've got to admit there's very little as fun as wandering about aimlessly. Especially in survival where the lack of centralised services (such as in Diamond city) can be quite tough from time to time. Coming across a caravan when you need the services they offer is just fantastic.

I would also recommend exploring the unmarked interiors that are scattered throughout the game. They can sometimes be extremely fun to explore and have quite a few strange or unsettling discoveries waiting to be made. I can stil remember going through one of the buildings in Lexington and coming to the conclusion that yes there was a skeleton in that washing machine, or finding a shack near to where the automatron dlc starts where someone had managed to cross a huge gap by using plungers to stick to the walls and ceiling... Seriously there's so much fun stuff out there.

Oh god Motty, I'm the opposite way with the Mirelurk Queen. I came woefully unprepared for that fight. The nightmares still come sometimes. But oh yeah Vertibirds give you that almost indescribable feeling.

Fighting on to some of the rooftops against gangs of raiders is exhilarating, and most of that comes with the unmarked locations.

Agreed on Unmarked locations! Even something as mundane as the boxing gym...you're like...oh yeah people were doing buffout and boxing...and then nukes...

The rooftop exploring and fighting are especially excellent in Power armor with a Jetpack...def a favorite pastime.

I never thought about the "no diamond city" style playthorugh. I might just have to try that....

The last thing I'll say is the plethora of easter eggs. Even in the Nuka World DLC, I found the Mystery Mansion recently...this sort of location that is completely superfluous and adds nothing to any questline is the sort of thing I love finding in Fallout. Like, the developers were really freaking busy making this game!
