Should Skaal be considered they're own race?

  • July 20, 2015 4:09 PM EDT
They are extremely different from the Nords. They have they're own culture and lifestyle, and I think its possible that Skyrim Nords and Skaal Nords can be different, because of different environment. So, should they be considered they're own race?

They're different just like Bretons and Reachmen are different.

No, I don't think so. IMO it's like saying that different Bosmeri tribes are different races. This might be true to Argonians, as they have different physical characteristics and intelligence levels, but in case of Nords and Skaal it doesn't work. They are all Nords.

Yes, but should they be considered they're own race, because of extreme differences?

But maybe because they have different environments, they evolved differently? They might be cousins and that's it. Might.

They're only different through culture, not race. It's like the Colovians and the Nibenese.

Makes sense. But will people be able to tell a Skyrim Nord and a Skaal Nord apart?

I don't think so. The environment is quite similar. The ash-covered lands are on the southern part of the island and are quite recent - after the Red Mountain eruption.

Yeah. You hear a Nord talk, sounds like a typical European. Hear a Skaal talk, BIG DIFFERENCE.

In appearance, the Skaal are clearly of Nord ancestry.

Good point. But I still find Skaal on the southern part.

lolwut, Europeans may have distinct accents, but they still look the same.

most of them, and that's not even a good example.

All Nords are descendants of the Atmorans.

It's like asking if the Crowns should be a different race than the Forebears. The answer is no because they are essentially the same race.

There are about three things that determine the difference between races. First they need to have a completely distinct cultural difference(different language, different religion, etc.) Secondly, they need to have completely distinct racial features (ie different skin colour.) Third, they just need to be very different. Did I stress different enough?

What? She looks Nord to me. Just like Serana, like Lydia, like every other Nord woman.

    She no has the wrinkles.
  • July 20, 2015 4:43 PM EDT
    Alright. Thanks for showing that.
  • July 20, 2015 4:44 PM EDT
She has the slightly elven eyes that bretons have. At least to me.

Reachmen have a more diverse genetic makeup than Bretons. Not only do they have the standard Nord and Altmer, but they also have a significant proportion of Redguard and Orsimer. In short, Reachmen are more bulky than mainstream Breton.

All the bretons have the wrinkles.. It's the only bad part about the females.

I think they might be more Atmoran. The colder climate would make them adapt to be more like that of Atmora.
