A Guild Well Done? Companions

I like the guild as a whole, seeing as it is Skyrim's Fighter's Guild and that it has its lineage dating back to a major figure in Tamrielic history. I do feel the quest-line went too fast, one minute I'm the newbie, next minute I'm the next member of the Circle before the newest member before me even has a chance to prove herself.

Now, out of all the members of the Companions, Circle and all, I really like only one of them. Not Aela, or Farkas or Vilkas, or any Circle member for that matter, even though  like each of them for separate reasons. But one caught my eye when I walked in Jorvaskrr for the first time, Her name is Ria. Not only do the player and Ria share some kind of bond in that you two are the newest members of the Companions, but I find her charming and really quite interesting.

So what about Aela. Many people have some sort of odd liking for her because reasons... I don't think she had that much of a backstory or character development. But what do you all think.

Speaking of bringing Companions back. When I needed to power up the Ebony Blade I used one of the Companions, the guy who likes to drink all the time, forgot his name sorry. Anyway I took him out to a quiet spot where I had already done in another follower of mine. Faendal's house in Riverwood. I left both bodies in the house and left with the intent never to return. Then later of course Skjor goes belly up as well in the Companions quest line. Well I kept playing my game and about a week later in real time I was wondering around near Dawnstar and some of the Companions come trudging by and who should call out to my character but the drunk guy I had left dead in Riverwood. No kidding the guy was happily wandering around with two other Companions. I could interact with him and everything. So needless to say my character got nervous. I mean here is not just a witness to my crime, but the damn victim himself! I swooshed back to Riverwood, ran into the house and.....nothing. No bodies at all. Faendal too was missing. In fact the place was cleaned up. Everything had reset nice and neat. So I go to the Companions hall to check out this zombie fellow and who should be setting at the table munching bread? Skjor! I ate his heart out while Aela watched. Hey I didn't kill him it was those damn Silver Hands, but hey a heart is a heart you know. So now I have two undead Companions who keep shooting my character shady looks, even when Skjor is still giving me random quests to prove my worth on. Now my characters days are filled with panic that soon Faendal will come calling and demand that I return all that gold I took from him after training.

I disliked her from the moment she chased my character half way to Dawnstar, just in order to berate me about some giant I didn't notice. I think she's a bit of a "stock" character without a lot of personality and is just there to fill the void and employ the stereotype of the Huntress.

    Indeed.

I think the Companions are a guild that almost needs to be longer (same with the College to a lesser extent) because you are supposedly being accepted into this great, historic, momentous organization and have been considered worthy to be accepted among the brotherhood (and sisterhood) of the beastblood, to become one with the wolf and sacrifice the purity of your soul to protect Skyrim and all her people...

... after beating a farmer's wife into submission.

Do you see the issue here? I like how the guilds focus more on different aspects, like you said, but length (a reasonable timeline for events) and depth (a meaningful story for those events) are things that, in my opinion, should be non-negotiable. The situation I've outlined (1 radiant quest, ranging from dragonslaying to brawling in the local bar, leading into joining the ranks of mythical warriors) is what happens when you have depth without length, while the end of the Thieves Guild (what is it? 50 radiant quests that are essentially fetch? All for a safe of generic loot) is what happens with length without depth.

I agree. I dislike fetch and escort quests on most games. Blame Dead Island for that. Too many go get this and bring it here hours. ugh!
