So, I am playing Pathfinder...

...with some guys I don't know and one friend. Well, the group seems great but the DM is VERY, VERY into hearing himself speak. The last time we played we had 1 combat encounter with 2 easy to kill knights. We played from 9pm until 4am and had ONE COMBAT ENCOUNTER. I swear I heard my dice cry.

Does anyone play D&D and actually prefer a basically story only campaign? Personally, I do like a good story, but an amazing fight now and again is also quite rewarding in it's own right. I mean I didn't play an overpowered Barbarian for her intellect!

GUESS I WON'T BE NEEDING THIS:

Pathfinder... It isn't as good as planescape, which is basically D&D where every religion is right and every possibility is possible

Pathfinder can be fun with the right DM which we obviously do not have. Ugh, how can you tell someone that they need to add more action to their game-play? I mean seriously! We escaped a castle under siege while escorting a fugitive and still ONE fricking fight with two super UP knights. Very depressing.

I don't know planescape but I usually don't care much about religion in gaming, as in real life. I'd just like to play a game where I get to kill things every once in a while.

I mean you basically can go throwdown with Thor at level 1 if you want... Every religion is right, so if you want to go to hell and fight with Jesus, Odin, Loki, and Ares in hell... You can do it. If you want to talk to a Mayan god and show him your Minotaur's juggling trick with barrels... You can

It's basically a universe created so nobody can say "actually, that can't happen cause of continuity." All continuities are true and valid.

I can have a minotaur? YESSsssssssssss!!!!! Sign me up! I just bought some new neon pink die that haven't seen roll yet. (Visited the comic book shop last weekend and spent an ass-load of money on crap.)

Uh, and if you can can beat Thor at Level 1 then there is something seriously wrong with the damage/HP...

Shannon, have you ever watched TheSpoonyOne's counter monkey series? In it, he talks about his D&D adventures and mess ups so you may laugh... And learn. One of my favorite stories from him is from a game called thieves world, where the story happened on a complete accident thanks to a player but became something that many would pay to see become a movie...

Oh no, I said fight him... He is still a god, so even if you're max level, you're probably not going to beat him... You can try... You'll more than likely fail...

No, I've never heard of that Bryn but I'll check that out. But, if you want to hear some great D&D tales to amaze and stupify you, you need to talk to Mr. Vix. He has without a doubt some of the most bizarre stories I have ever heard.

I wonder if my DM would get offended if I actually asked for more combat. I'm pretty sure all the other players would completely agree with it.

You can be anything... You can pick any D&D book and any enemy, monster, or race that wasn't available before, you can be one in planescape... Want to be a pirate Minotaur? Go ahead (they are actually known for pirating in planescape). You want to be a gorgon healer? Go ahead. You want to be a crabman... Go ahead :)

A good DM would love to hear feedback. A good DM appreciates it when the players say "hey maybe we can have a little more combat." Or "maybe we should cut back on the fighting a little." They love it when you give suggestions but don't outright tell them "do this next time!"

I used to GM a lot.  I usually broke an evening's gaming session into 3-4 chapters. We were heavy into role-play but at least one chapter was primarily combat. . Unless it was an introduction to a 'new adventure' or similar, every player's dice saw 'action' every chapter (If not combat, then skill and attribute rolls).

If it was one time, then maybe give that DM another chance? Otherwise perhaps someone can suggest starting their own campaign, and let that guy play instead.

Edit: You were replying above while I was writing this comment. That GM sounds worse than I expected, that part of the 'story' is screaming action.

No, it's been every time, Rune. I was just giving an example of how scarce it was by using the last session as an example. I literally bought new dice and I have no idea why. (Well yeah, I do. My rolls for skill points were horrendous.)

Bryn, I wouldn't mind saying something, except, well, I don't really know any of them but Brian and I being a girl too, that may make him defensive...IDK...

Hey, you all are playing a nerdy game taking up a few hours of your time... If you don't feel comfortable talking with each other at any other time you probably shouldn't game with them...

No, they are nice enough guys and all. That isn't the it. It's just that a lot of guys get all weird when a girl suggests they should do something different, you know. When I drove a couple of the guys home they said they agreed with me, but didn't want to tell the guy either.

Perhaps you could say something to 'Brian'. Perhaps lead him to think that it's not 'fair' to the guy to have to DM all the time, someone should give him a 'break' so he could play some too. (That's all I've got, other than finding a new group).

Well you either be the brave one and try to say this to the DM... Or you don't and stop complaining :P

Good advice both of you. I do need to step up I guess if I want change. Well, the worse he could do is throw my barbarian to the wolves...or the orcs as the case may be. Then at least I'd see some action.

I wouldn't mind finding another group except they are few and far between around here.
