Are Giants Gay?

An unkind observer might speculate that I have too much time on my hands, but this thought occurred to me just a while ago: are giants gay? I was doing a mission that required me to sneak into a giant camp, and as soon as I spotted one of them I started looking for the other - that's when it hit me. I've only ever seen giants living in pairs, and they always appear to be male pairs; I haven't seen a female giant yet. Is there lore here? Is there supersized manlove going on in the wilderness? And if so, where do baby giants come from?

Giants we see are basically shepherds and their "sheep" are are mammoths. Shepherding is a man's job. Thats why we only see male giants.

Shepherding is traditionally a man's job in human culture. It is not a job that only men are capable of, and we do not know the status of women in Giant culture- assuming there ARE female giants at all or that there are physical traits that set them apart from males.

I'd say either female giants look exactly like male giants, there IS no female giant and the giants we see can reproduce without needing a 'female,' or these are all male giants and the females live off in some camp that we never see. That or giants are, in fact, gay.

I dunno. The world may never know.

    That logic.

Maybe the mamoths are the female's?

Do they have a grander soul? Check.

I'd say the giantesses are at home with the children tending house and the male giants are in the fields for the working season. That's more logical than assuming giants are homosexual.

It's more logical if you apply human norms to a different race. Just because it's seen as less common for all humans to be homosexual does not mean it's strange for giants. Think of it as the Asari from Mass Effect, if you are familiar. They're an entire race that appear to be solely female, and can reproduce with each other despite that. They aren't 'gay,' because they are sort of genderless, in a way. Giants of Skyrim could be similar.

Also, just to play devil's advocate, where are these giant homes? If the giants live in Skyrim, where are their homes? We would have seen them. Unless, of course, the homes are somewhere else entirely and just travel all the way to Skyrim to tend their mammoths (Quite a long commute, but I suppose their long legs make it easier?)

Everything in skyrim points to the giants in skyrim being male and humanoid, like elves or men.

They probably have homes someplace safe, like in caves in the mountains.

Just curious because I haven't done any giant-lore-research things. What do you mean by everything pointing to that? Besides appearances. I haven't really ever encountered much regarding them, but I've never really looked.

And that's fair. Just saying that the player never encounters things like that, from what I've seen. Of course that could just be a 'well, it's hidden' thing, but I dunno.

I will never look at those camps the same way again.

And LOL, "hmmm, are those mammoths the mates of those giants? I wonder. We should kill one and absorb its soul just to see whether or not its possible that mammoths mother their children." Cold Skyrim science. Has it gone too far?

Since there is little lore, all we can go in is appearance.

I mean, you can base it off appearance, but that could be totally off. Not that this REALLY matters, of course lol. Could be male, could be nonbinary-ish, could be a race of homosexuals. Perhaps it is a mystery that shall remain unsolved. How shall we go on without the answer?

They're mammals, so they have male and female.

@Shor, it cut me off and wouldn't let me reply. They do appear to be mammal. I think the best bet is that they are the males of the species and the female exist in not-included-in-game Skyrim. But ya never know.

Maybe it's like the Dwarves in LOTR and they're just indistinguishable from each other. Maybe they're all female. We'll never know. But I dread the amount of porn without plot fiction coming after the writers hear about this.

You forgot to change one the dwarf words to giant. Other than that, brilliant copy/paste work.

I'm about to do some research, but I'd imagine that there is a giantess village or couple of villages in the mountains between Skyrim and High Rock, and the giants from these two provinces go there to mate every so often.

Also is that thing about LOTR Dwarves true? Does that mean that some of the dwarves in The Hobbit are female? o.O

This is plausible (in the context of this ludicrous thread). It hadn't crossed my mind that the giants might only be in their camps temporarily, looking after the herds; I assumed those were their homes. I do wonder about the chests they have with them, in light of this - would nomadic herdsmen have treasure chests? - but even so it's possible that their actual homes and families are elsewhere. That would accord with shepherding practise in our world, as far as I know.

With the Dwarves in lotr and giants in the series a song of ice and fire(game of thrones) the males and females are both said to have beards and look very similar to one another. Maybe that's the same in Skyrim as well.

It is true, but also slightly on purpose. Females make up about a third of their population and don't always marry. Culturally, dwarves are very secretive and tend to keep their women very close to home in order to protect them (there aren't a lot) and when they do travel abroad, they usually dress them up like men. Here's one from the starting narration of the Hobbit in case you never noticed.

Yes it is true, but no, all of the dwarves we see in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit are male.

If this really disturbs you that much get the immersive version of monster mod from the nexus. That adds female giants.
