How come people in skyrim hate the Dunmer? I thought most of the people in skyrim hated the high elves?

They aren't trusted because they are one of the few races to openly except daedra in their pantheon as a race.

The Dunmer worship the Daedra, and most Nords believe that is not only wrong, but very dangerous.  It makes the Dunmer seem treacherous, untrustworthy, and like heathens in their eyes.  Consider also that many Dunmer have fled their province to live in Skyrim, something the Nords aren't terribly pleased about.  "Skyrim is for the Nords" after all...

Just consider most real life situations in which refugees and immigrants suddenly begin dwelling in a neighboring country.  No matter how hospitable that country initially is, eventually, there's the expectation that the new people are to either adapt to the host country's ways or return home.  When that doesn't happen, the inhabitants of the host country tend to get disgruntled to say the least.

Since that has yet to happen for the Dunmer (especially since they still do not worship the Nine as the Nords might wish), and this has been occurring over the last 200 years, the Nords are understandably irritated about it.

Should they hate the Dunmer because of this?  No.  But then, Nords are naturally xenophobic, so I don't suppose they know how they should act.  They know only to reject that doesn't "make sense" to them.

And the high elves don't approve of the Dark Elves worship of the daedra. So they don't hate them either, just think badly on them, or don't trust them...

Don't they hate them because they worship daedra and because they won't pick a side in the civil war therefore the stormcloaks think they are imperial spies.

Don't forget that the Nords and Dunmer have also been at war over the boundaries of Skyrim/Morrowind since way back when Morrowind was Resdayn and dwarves did their thing in Red Mountain. There's probably at least one Dunmer still alive somewhere who remembers his parents talking about it. Bad blood runs deep.

Seems someone made his homework... But basically, it's because many things have happened between Nords and Dunmer. Wars, conflicts, fight for Solstheim in old days... Funny enough, they have no problem in sometimes befriending or doing business together. And well, Nords generally like no one except themselves and their imperial descendants, which is no longer the case in Skyrim (about 50% of the time). And of course, I'm talking of close-minded Nords that believe in tradition. Many are true friends if they see worth in someone, as seen in TESIV:Oblivion. But yeah, in Skyrim there's more distrust, even more than before.
