U.O.T.W. Chapter 73 Deep Waters

  • As Red headed along the Undercroft corridor her ears pricked up at the soft echoing sound of a dripping tap. She slowly crept on all fours towards the direction of the water droplets almost like she was tracking them. When she came to the bathing room, she nudged the door with her snout and pushed it open.

She stood there motionless as her eyes scanned the room. The air had a damp smell to it and her paws detected feint traces of water residue on the stone floor. A few globules of water glistened as they fell into a iron bathing tub drawing Red towards it like a moth to a flame. She rested her two front paws on the edge of the tub and peered in to see a miniscule amount of water form a small puddle around the plug hole.

As Red leaned over the edge to reach the small pool of water, one of her paws slipped into the bath causing her head to smack into the metal side. She growled at the tub as she pulled herself back out of it. The thought of water escaped her as she become once again blinded by her own rage. As if to take her anger out on the bath, she shoulder barged it causing it to rock sideways. The edge of the tub absorbed most of her weight and buckled inwards like it was hit with a blacksmiths hammer. However at the same time the piping came under stress and a small jet of water from the tap connection spurted outwards making a high pitched ‘pssssss’ sound.

Red’s ears once again pricked up as her head fixated itself to the new development. Red lapped at the water which only marginally covered her tongue. The small jet of water failed to quench her thirst especially as she was still feeling rough after guzzling on the sweet liquid she had earlier. She changed tact and started snapping her jaw at the spray as if to try to catch more water but the amount she was getting still wasn’t enough. Her frustration grew to the boil as she finally lost her temper. She barged the tub a second time adding to the existing dents before gnawing at the tap itself.

Red flailed her head side to side when suddenly the tap broke off due to the immense force from Red’s jaw. The fitting gave way causing a great spurt of water to gush upwards like a geyser. Red spat out the tap then rested her front paws on the end of the bath and thirstily snapped at the jet of water. Having now secured a water supply so she would be able to quench her thirst at will, she gave a howl of triumph as water rained down over her. She walked around on all fours in a small circle deliberately soaking herself as if she knew the water was washing the sticky residue from the mead out of her fur. She rapidly became drenched in water until she decided she had enough. Feeling cleaner and far more content she exited the flooding bathing room to find herself once again in the corridor.

After just taking a few paws forwards Red stopped and shook herself down spraying out the excess water trapped between layers of her fur. The stink of a ‘wet dog’ started to overpower the smell of the mead so Red headed off back towards the sweeter scent. Once she passed the ‘lake’ of mead that formed in the corridor by Farkas’s room, Red headed to the farthest door which led to the Harbingers study. As she neared the entrance a new scent fell upon her nose. Venison…

She nudged the door with the side of her face but it wouldn’t budge. Having now found herself fixated on the smell of deer which wafted from under the doorway Red stood up on her hind legs and shoved the barrier with her front paws. The door gave way under the massive weight of a 300 pound werewolf and crashed to the floor but not before catching two glass cabinets which immediatly collapsed under the timber.

Now that she had free access to the room, Red entered and started sniffing around in the hunt for her meal. She followed the scent of the meat like there was an invisible finger beckoning her towards it. In the corner of the study there lay a half eaten piece of cooked venison on a plate. No doubt the Harbinger was eating it when he was disturbed. Red’s neck stretched out as she snatched the piece of meat with her fangs before tearing into it hungrily on the floor.

All too soon Red devoured the meat which barely made the slightest dent in her appetite but as she stood up she hit her head on the table. Just one swipe of her powerful paw was enough to tip the table over to only end up hitting the book case. Red looked up at the shelving and saw a plate on one of the higher shelves. With complete disregard to the Harbingers property she tugged the shelving towards her then snapped her fangs at the book shelf as it toppled on her.

A deafening crash rang out as the bookshelf and all its contents fell on top of Red smothering her with alchemy ingredients, books and an old assortment of scrolls. Howling out with anger, Red threw the book shelf across the room and watched as it slammed into the other display cabinets sprawling their contents over the floor. The second bookshelf just collapsed under Reds weight as she tore it off the wall.

Having found nothing else of interest or to attack, Red made her way into the Harbingers bedroom. Several furs were piled up on the bed to promptly find themselves under assault as she turned on them like they were an animal. Bits of shredded fur scattered to the four winds then Red turned on the bed itself. Straw was pulled out as the bedding was ripped apart. Massive slash marks cut through the linen which was stuffed with a straw lining. From the wardrobe she could smell Nord again. She recognized it as the man who had escaped from her clutches earlier.

She was adamant that he wouldn’t escape a second time. With a bellowing roar she charged at the wardrobe tearing off a door and slashing out at the clothing inside. Her fangs tore into the shirts as her paws swiped out at anything that moved. It took Red several seconds to realize that there was actually no one there but she released her frustration all the same and shredded the clothing until nothing remained.

She slumped down in the bedroom and glanced around at her handy work. She started feeling bloated and sluggish as all the water and mead she guzzled had filled her bladder. She moved to the hall and glanced down it towards the storeroom. Knowing this room was the furthest from her food supply, Red headed back inside Kodlak’s bedroom and scrapped the clothing together in a rough circle in the corner of the room before relieving herself on the various garments.

Feeling slightly more relaxed and composed Red headed outside to the corridor where her temper instantly flared up once again.

A new scent brought a whole new danger to her nostrils. She turned towards Aela’s room which she recognized only as her cell. Cautiously she slowly approached the doorway. Having satisfied herself that the door was completely useless as it was lying on the floor in the short corridor, Red poked her head through the threshold and peered inside.

Instantly the furs on the nape of her neck rose up and she launched herself in a blood rage against the very room itself. The display cabinet smashed to pieces as she clawed at the side of the wardrobe bringing it down to the floor in a loud bang. She lifted her front paws up then dropped onto the back of the wardrobe causing it to implode as Red frenzy of destruction against the contents spread to Aela’s bed. She let herself go on a rampage, tearing and clawing with everything she had until she suddenly stopped and slowly turned around to face someone in the corner dressed in Ancient Nordic armor. They just stood there watching her.

Red howled out as she charged full bore into the mannequin which upon impact with the mass of her bulk, just snapped in half. she didn’t stop when it fell, instead she bit into the side of the chest and ripped away a chunk of armor before spitting it out. All her hormones and anger fueled her rage as she destroyed every trace of the armor until there was nothing left other than shreds of leather.

Having completely trashed everything in the room in a berserk frenzy of destruction for all the times she was held at bay in the room, Red pranced outside on all fours with a sense of satisfaction as she headed back to the stores where the clouds of flour had finally settled. As she entered the storeroom itself flour gathered on her paws once again leaving a trail showing every step she made.

At the back of the room hanging on various racks were several joints of meat. Red didn’t care what different type of meat there was what bothered her was the fact that some bookcases were stood alongside each other as if they were walls literally separating the large room in two halves. Reds big issue with it was the fact that she was in actual fact too broad to fit through the gap. She managed to squeeze her shoulders through the gap but as she reached the nearest piece of meat which happened to be her favorite, a deer carcass, she found herself stuck fast.

Red turned around to see her hips were jammed against the shelving but she was undeterred. Red stretched out as far as she could. Her fangs snapped at the veal which was just out of her reach. Reds hind paws clawed and scratched the flooring as they tried to push her a few inches closer. Once again her maw slammed shut as the smell of the deer drove her wild with hunger and anticipation.

Suddenly and without any warning the shelving gave way. The two shelf units toppled forwards smashing into a table and crushing a chair as the contents rained down upon the floor. Red howled and snarled as she finally tugged on the meat. It initially resisted but she stood up and tore down the whole rack then ravenously fed.

Once the veal and other pieces of red meat were devoured, Red started exploring the store once again. A second rack was full to the brim of yet more meat and a few chickens but at the moment Red’s hunger was sated. However a familiar smell caught her attention and she turned towards two large barrels of mead and ale.

If there was a lesson for Red to learn when she guzzled the first load of mead from Farkas’s room then she never learnt it. Unless the lesson was on how to break into barrels. With hardly any effort at all Red had managed to split the sides to both barrels flooding the stores in the two alcoholic beverages.

As before she drank her fill and once again her head started to feel strange. However her will and mind were displaced and the love of the strange sweet liquid consumed her far more than what she could consume herself. She sluggishly fell to the floor on her chest and growled as her eyes tried to focus on the doorway while her limbs spread out in all directions as she laid there in the rapidly forming pool of alcohol.

Red once again awoke hours later to find herself in a large two inch deep lake of mead and ale which had yet again stuck her fur together as well as destroying all the sacks which were piled on the floor from flour to sugar along with various edible herbs. Having all but destroyed the store room, she crawled out of the room and slowly headed towards the bathing room where she could still hear water gushing up from the damaged plumbing. Let alone the tell tale sign of a puddle of water forming outside the bathing room door.

Once she sated her thirst again she then proceeded to prepare somewhere where she could rest without ending up soaked. One room seemed to cry out for this purpose as it had a familiar scent although it wasn’t one she distinguished with aggression or fear…

The door flew open as she barged straight past it and entered Sotek’s room. Strange smells came from the two bookcases which were filled with bottles, vials and wooden bowls of alchemy ingredients. At least they were until Red knocked them over. She paced around in a tight circle for several seconds before turning to the bed.

Moments later a loud ‘rriippp’ filled the room as Red proceeded to pull out with her fangs clumps of straw from Sotek’s mattress. She managed to form a small pile almost like she was making a nest but as she tried to settle down she found it too uncomfortable. Growling out angrily due to tiredness as well as her hormones still coursing through her body, Red sought out another room.

Over the next few hours various tears and crashes could be heard while Red sought out extra straw from the other bedrooms which up to this moment she had failed to touch.

Eventually Red managed to amass enough bedding in the centre of Sotek’s room to lay down and sleep soundly. Several mattresses gave up their straw for her contented slumber.

Aww rats. I never changed the 'brought' I concentrated on 'room' and 'straw'.
    Appologies, on it now.

    Much better now.

Just one thing, I still think it should be "brought" instead of "bought". But I might be wrong here...

Yes, poor Aela/Red. She probably lost her memories to the alcohol..

No way they can fix all of this before the 'kids' are back, lol.

Paragraph 1-2 from the bottom, "straw" has been used a bit too often, Imo.

Paragraph 15 from the top, "sent bought" should be "scent brought", I guess.more

Thanks Thorien for such a dramatic response.
These three chapters are some of my favourite ones. Red really goes to town here...
I hope they are as vivid for you as they are for me.

    Actualy, no it don't.
Red and Aela don't consider themselves to be the same person. For instance just because Aela likess someone then it don't mean that Red will like them. If Aela is angry with say Sotek and she changes then Red might still be hap...  more

I remember from one of the previous chapters that Aela's mead record was 10 bottles, does this count as beating it?
