U.O.T.W. Chapter 53 Greymane's Nightmare

  •

Greymane stepped out of the cave into the evening moonlight. As the shadows from the trees trailed across the landscape, he looked down at his own shadow which was long and drawn out as it reached out to all the wolves in his pack. He was the Alpha male, and she was late. As he stepped forwards, his paws left a trail in the snow. His eyes instantly fixed on the black wolf that stood there outside of Greymane’s cave.

Damn him, he’s always there watching, waiting’.

Greymane wanted to kill him, needed to kill him. The wanton lust for the kill, for this kill burned through his veins to an almost overpowering blood rage. One day the black wolf would die. One day Greymane will have reason to kill. But for now Hircine had forbidden it.

Why damn you! Why can’t I kill when you grant me your strength to do just that. Damn you Hircine and damn him, damn him to Oblivion’.

Below the rocky outcrop which both Greymane and the other wolf stood upon, the wolf pack gathered for the night. From the far side of the pack, several wolves started to separate as a single female wolf came towards them. She walked slowly towards the small rocky plateau with her head held down low and the tip of her tail almost draping along the frozen ground, as if she was afraid.

Greymane saw her nearing both him and the black wolf. She was his bitch, his mate by right, his to use and abuse. He knew no one could challenge his ownership of her. The Red wolf was his by right. But as always the black wolf stood there watching.

Damn him to hell, the bitch is mine‘.

The black wolf saw her approach, he remembered who she is, who she was. The memories drew a single tear which dropped from his face. She looked at the teardrop as it disappeared in the snow, and then she licked his mouth as if she tried to comfort him. Before he even realised he could, the black wolf was in her path blocking her way. He looked down at his paw prints in the snow. For the very first time he could move. Slowly he lifted a paw, he couldn’t help but look at it. He had been held in check for so long. Every night his soul was literally screaming out to protect her. But now he finally could. Slowly, stealthily he walked towards Greymane.

Greymane was impatient, the moment she neared him he bit down at her back leg, but this time he froze. The leg was a front one, it was black and fear's icy grip squeezed Greymane's heart as he realized that his own neck was exposed. Razor sharp teeth tore into the back of the wolf's neck ripping into flesh and spilling blood. He threw off the attacker, only to find it was the black wolf himself.

Both wolves howled loudly and snarled at each other, within moments battle was joined.

Claws and fangs clashed savagely as the two wolfs fought to the death. The black wolf tried desperately to get a grip at Greymane’s neck with his maw as he tore into his opponent's side with his claws. Greymane however managed to bite the other wolfs back leg. As the black wolf’s claws ripped into his side, allowing blood to pour from the wound, he bit down hard with all the strength he could muster. Supplemented with Hircine’s boon it was too much. The black wolf’s leg was torn to pieces as the bone broke in Greymane’s powerful jaw.

The wolf cried out in agony as he collapsed on the floor unable to move.  He snarled at Greymane, fully determined to go down fighting. Two seconds later however while Greymane looked at him and prepared to finish him off, he collapsed himself due to the wounds inflicted upon him and his own blood loss did little to help. The Red wolf approached them both while Greymane lied there exhausted. The black wolf never gave an inch, never tried to run, but was unable to continue. Greymane himself was too tired and weak to do anything either. They were both in a stalemate where both were equally matched and equally wounded.

The Red wolf however was unhurt, but very angry from all the nights which she had to endure in the paws of Greymane. Mercy was a concept she wouldn’t allow to blind her, couldn’t allow. She showed the same mercy to her nemesis as she would a young deer in her path which was none at all. She started snarling at him, saliva dripped from her fangs as she closed in for the kill. Her teeth tore at his wounds while her claws ripped into him. The black wolf laid there watching, while she finished what he could not. The other wolfs however closed in making Red back away from Greymane. The bravest of them approached and took a nip at him, testing his strength, but he had none...

Upon seeing his own weakness, the pack turned towards the black wolf, who in response to the new threat, gave a low threatening snarl. He knew he couldn’t fight them but he was quickly backed up by Red herself as she stood in front of him to protect him. They both watched Greymane disappear from sight as the whole pack gathered then turned against Greymane and tore him apart. Then as one they headed back down the path to their places below the overhang as Red lay next to the black wolf, and licked his wounds.

Somewhere to the north of Whiterun, a Nord woke up suddenly. He was sweating profusely and shaking as he screamed out. Two Nords burst into the room, just to get hacked down by a two handed sword. He knew who they were, but he didn’t care. He was angry, this wasn’t how it was supposed to be. He burst into the main hall, and turned to a single figure sitting in the shadows.

“Kill him, I want him dead”.

The Female Argonian got up then walked over to him. In her hand she carried a small wooden box.

“We know where he is, I even sat with him. We talked for hours... Do you want it over quickly? Poisoned? A slit throat when he’s asleep? Maybe slice off his head while he sleeps alongside his lover? Hehe, I could slice his throat while he makes love to his lover... That’s always good for a scream!”

“No! I want him to suffer, put the fear of hell in him. Only when the two moons are full, only then kill him. Not before, if you kill him before then he’ll enter the hunting grounds. That’s unacceptable. The two full moons, he’ll never see her again”.

She threw open the chamber door and pointed across to two Argonian guards.

“I have a task for you both. Ride quickly and with haste. The shadows, they whisper... May the shadows hide you”.

Less than an hour later, two riders left for Whiterun. They were cloaked in black leather armour as well as their horses. A black mist from nowhere seeped across the trail as they rode and in no time at all, the two riders disappeared as they rode into the shadows.

Sorry, this wasn't my intention. All I do is cleaning up after you cleaned up and suggesting things, that I 'feel' would fit better. Isn't it important to know different opinions? Guess not, let's fight!
