The Larcenous Knight

  • So this was something I wrote when playing Albino's Larcenous Knight way back in August last year. Thought I'd share, it's just a short backstory really but it was a fun playthrough.

I remember when I was young I enjoyed walking the battlements of my family’s castle, pretending to be a knight on patrol or an archer ready to defend my liege lord. I used to like gazing out across the countryside on clear days hoping to catch a glimpse of Skingrad to the south or the Imperial City’s White Gold Tower far off. If the weather was bad I would gaze out from one of the Keep’s many windows and watch the rain beat against the armour of the stoic Men-at-Arms.

All I have left are these memories. Battlehorn Castle is now just one more ruin among many in the war-torn Colovian Highlands. I guess I should say I’m lucky to have survived the siege, lucky my mother hurriedly smuggled me out of the postern gate with a loyal retainer with instructions to flee for Choral, accompanied with promises she would meet us there as soon as she could.

Lucky the arrow from the dark caught the old servant and not me as we fled to the western woods.

I waited four days for any sign of my family, watching smoke rise in the east with a heavy heart before abandoning Choral against the Dominion advance. I managed to travel to the Imperial City with a group of other scared citizens along with strangely well armed monks from Weynon Priory who acted as guards and protectors to our party.

Alone, hungry and frightened I joined the other refugees thronging the walls of the City, quickly realising my title and name meant less than nothing anymore. All I had in this world was that which I was wearing or could be gotten through cunning and guile.

It was a steep learning curve for a spoilt Imperial noble.

It wasn’t long before the fires of war spread as far into Cyrodiil as the Imperial City and I found myself on the run again. Cheydinhal became my home this time, and amongst the ill-favoured Dunmer of that town did I finally start learning the skills I would rely on for the rest of my life.

My name is Berich Castus - known mockingly to my closest friends at the Thorn Lodge as the “Larcenous Knight” - and I vow to the Eight I will restore my family’s wealth and estates by any means necessary.

I'm glad we never heard you say that again, Phil.  'Silliness' indeed... Feh.
I remember reading this when you first posted it, back when I was a lurker who never liked or commented. What really strikes me is how you wrapped up so many tragic images...  more

Thanks Sotek  I think I write far too much as it is, most of it silliness.
