If I Had a Heart - Diplomatic Relations (1.1)

  • Hey Coyotes (ah, it's been such a long time). After having been away for a while I've decided to come back and restart the story I began all those months ago (6-7 months or so). The prologue can be found here for those who are interested in reading that. I guess I'm sorta back? Who knows, work and life keeps me busy so not much time to be creative and all that jazz, but I'll try - I originally had some great story planned and I'll have to try and see if I can figure out what that was exactly. Anyway, this isn't part of the story so I'll let you get into it (if that's what you desire).

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Tullius lead the Imperial prisoner transport and kept a keen eye on the road for anything out of the ordinary, the visibility was low from the morning mist. The transport travelled slowly but surely down the road with a small contingency of captured Stormcloak soldiers, and their leader Ulfric Stormcloak.  Most of the Imperial soldiers had been sent off in advance to both secure the road forward, yet Tullius had a feeling something wouldn't go as planned. A scout team had been sent to prepare Helgen for the executions of the Stormcloaks, which meant only a handful of Imperial soldiers were protecting the transport itself.

The transport came to a small bend in the road which had a mountain path leading down to it, which Tullius eyed suspiciously. "Nothing there," he thought to himself. A thought went to his family, "soon this war will be over, and I can finally return home to my wife and kids." The thought of his family brought a smile to his usual stern and expressionless face. In the midst of his thought a loud voice boomed behind him, "Imperial transport, halt!" The transport came to an immediate stop and the rear guard jumped off his horse, his bow already aimed at the stranger before he landed firmly on the ground. Tullius had demounted his horse as well, he approached the stranger with a hand on his hilt, ready for combat.

As Tullius approached the stranger, a calm Redguard dressed in leather and bone with a white tattoo on his face, he saw the rear guard inching closer to the Redguard with a fully drawn bow. "What's the meaning of this intrusion?"  Tullius asked, the soldier replied "I don't know, sir. He says he will only speak wi.." the Redguard interrupted the soldier, "General Tullis, sir. Pardon me. I am Demetrius and I was sent by Ser Merrin." Tullius nodded to the rear guard who immediately relaxed the bow, but only slightly. "Ser Merrin you say? What reason does the biggest supporter of the Empire have to send a lone Redguard into the wilds of Skyrim to find me?" "It's all in this document," Demetrius replied and pulled a document slowly from his satchel. Tullius noticed the seal of Ser Merrin on the document, "very well Demetrius, we will sort this out after the executions of these rebels. I'm afraid the only space we have is on the back of the transports, with the prisoners." "That will be fine General", Demetrius replied as he walked towards the transport. He took place next to Ulfric Stormcloak, whom he inspected closely.
