Storms over Tamriel: 3 - Fog of War

  • This session was run on the 29th of November, 2014. It was also known as Maormer Age: Boatquisition considering the previous session was cancelled since everyone wanted to stay home playing Dragon Age: Inquisition instead. Bit of a shorter one this time.

    Fog of War

Aethenar, Licks and Harry finally set off from Skywatch (after much storytelling) to investigate the strange activity at South Beacon, a lighthouse on the south-west coast of Auridon. The afternoon after their departure, an exceptionally dense fog rolled in, blanketing the forest the trio were travelling through in a cloak of mist. Aethenar determined it was magical in origin, but they pressed on.

They encountered another adventurer who had become lost in the fog, but their conversation was cut short. Grimgor, a brutish Orc assassin dropped from the trees and delivered a killing blow, fulfiling a contract on the man and providing a convenient method for him and the Redguard, Kitashi, to join the trio on their quest. After some more wandering, they came across the camp of Nigs, another Redguard adventurer who decided to join them.

The following morning the party made it to South Beacon finding it occupied by Maormer soldiers. They crossed the rickety footbridge one at a time and silently eliminated the Maormer sentry, and then stormed the lighthouse - Licks and Grimgor climbing to the top and the other four pushing up from the bottom. In an unfortunate incident, Licks was thrown from the lighthouse by one of the Maormer but managed to survive, albeit unconscious. They managed recovered some orders written in Maormer on the commanding officer there.

With the Maormer mage controlling the fog dead, it dissipated - only to reveal a trio of Maormer ships just outside the southern port city Vulkhel Guard, preparing to launch a surprise assault through the fog. The party made haste to the western gate of the city, which lead into the market district. Forces from the Fighters and Mages guilds were attempting to hold their guildhalls against an overwhelming Maormer force, but the party charged in to take out the invaders with the help of the guildsmen. With the market clear for the time being, they linked up with the Altmeri and Imperial forces in the fortified Temple district.

The party learned that the Maormer had set up a trio of catapults on a small island outside the city, and were bombarding the fortifications, attempting to break a hole in the Temple district’s defenses. Neither the Altmer or Imperial officers could spare enough troops to go and deal with them without leaving their flanks wide open, so the party volunteered to do so. They snuck down to the beach and stole a pair of Maormer landing boats, one of them attacking from the front and one going around the rear for the more stealthy party members to launch a surprise attack. The party managed to dispatch the catapults and their crew without significant injury, other than an altercation involving Aethenar and a Maormer Navy SEAL’s surprise grapple attack.

With the Maormer’s heavy weaponry destroyed, they planned to head back to the city and clean up their remaining foes...
