Fallout 3 Character Build Test: The Wasteland Wanderer

  • The Wasteland Wanderer

Go to the bottom and play the video for desired effect

The Wanderer, a simple being of the wasteland. Struggling to survive against the mutant abominations and raiding clans. With only the gear he can fit in his backpack, and his loyal dog, he travels the wastes, doing the one thing that we do so easily. Survive.

    S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Skills: Strength 5, Perception 5, Endurance 6, Charisma 4, Intelligence 3, Agility 7, Luck 5

Tag Skills: Lockpicking, Small Guns, Repair

Essential Perks: Gun Nut 3/3, Lead Belly, Rad Resistance, Cannibal

    The Build

The wanderers in fallout have always interested me, how they can survive on how little they have. Scrounging every locker and safe to find food, turning to cannibals if they had no other source of food, and being able to resist radiation after being surrounded in it for so long.

This build will adopt a sort of strategist play style. You will have to study every enemy and think "Do i have enough bullets to take him, can I take him, should I flee?" If you can take him, it's pretty simple, kill him and loot him. If you can't take him, then you should run away.

The reasons for these tagged skills are that your weapons will always break, using repair you an fix them. Lockpicking is simple because you need to loot everything you see, sometimes those things are locked. And Small Guns, you need to kill somehow.

    Roleplay Notes

    1) Only carry one rifle, one pistol, and one melee. No more carrying 1007 baseball bats

    2) You can't afford to get a real companion, so it's simpler just to keep a dog. Get dogmeat.

    3) No buying chems, too expensive for your budget. The only way to get chems is to find them

    Tactics

Some ways to stay in your 'budget' are to use your pistol and then finish the enemies off with melee. Do this until around level 5, by then the enemies will be stronger. Now you do the same thing with your rifle then pistol 'til around level 7-10. By then you should almost always use your rifle, unless you want to mix it up.

    Thanks for reading.

Note: Paul, you ought to know that I am no where near as skilled as mason or ponty or Emer, but if they contributed to the fallout section, we could have some builds as good as the skyrim ones.

This is a good build idea, I only wished more people contributed to the fallout section so we could have more great builds.

I actually disagree Ben, Fallout is a great game with many unique ways to play, I fully approve of a Fallout section especially since the next game Bethesda is going to make is Fallout 4.

I've never used the cannibalism perk before. Is it really that usefull compared to Fancy Lad Snacks or other food? In Fallout 3 it's also the best choice to use small guns as a skill, since you'll run out of ammo and spare parts very soon fir big guns.
