Skyrim sales continue to go through the roof

    Following our earlier story about the early sales figures for Skyrim, we have news today that Bethesda is reporting that a whopping 7 million copies of the game have been sold.

    This figure means that Bethesda has so far racked up a staggering $450 million in global sales. Wow...

    It has also emerged that last Friday there were more than 280,000 people playing the game on Steam at the same time, setting a new record for simultaneous users playing the same game on Steam. Another record set by Skyrim...

    Skyrim is now firmly established as the second best selling game of 2011. Will it overtake the beohmath that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? Probably not! But, still, this is surely counts as an incredible achievement for Bethesda

    Speaking today, Robert Altman, CEO of Zenimax (Bethesda's parent company) said "We are grateful for the fans' response to Skyrim. Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company's history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides."

    This is wonderful. I can only hope with this new found and somewhat unexpected fame and riches pouring in will help Bethesda give something great to fans of the Elder Scrolls, Fallout and other series they're involved in. I'm also hoping that with this ne...  more

    I took my cue from Jay's first link and, actually, they've edited that webpage. Where it says Skyrim has shipped (not sold) 7 million copies - they have added the bit in brackets later. Obviously it was pointe...  more

    Im very happy for Bethesda. All to often a great and fantastic game, which has had alot of proper development time, is overshadowed by the "commercial giants". Who pump out a new game every year like clockwork, and offer very little news.

    Do anyone know if it is an all time record, and in that case: what game held the title before and how many plays did that have.

    I read somewhere, quite clearly, that they shipped 7 million copies, but sold half in the first 3 days.  7 million is the shipped number, not the sales number.  Um... ok found it:

    They so deserve this they have created an absolute masterpiece: A living breathing world for me to live in and immerse myself in for years to come. Because lets face reality sucks
