Help me cure my Elder Scrolls 'problem'...

  • 'Hello, my name is Paul... and I'm addicted to starting Elder Scrolls games over and over'

I can't believe I'm only one with this problem. I start with a Khajiit, start playing the game. Then after a couple of hours I start getting the nagging feeling that I should have started with with a Nord. So I start the game again, this time with a burly Nord instead of a sneaky Khajiit assassin.

But then, after a couple more hours, I start to think that I maybe should have gone down the route of a Mage. So I decide to start again, this time with a Breton magic user.

    And so it continues....

Am I the only one? I doubt it.

It's always been like that. I've heard the prison dialogue in Oblivion so many times that I can recite it in my sleep. I can hear the voice right now in my head 'You're going to die in here....you're going to die'. Then there's Morrowind. Ah yes the kindly, reassuring voice of Jiub bidding me 'Stand up, there you go, not even last nights storm could wake you ...'.

How many hundreds of times I must have gone through those dialogues, dutifully following the guard to the top deck of the ship and out onto the gangplank to start yet another character. Or following the Blades and Uriel through that oh-so-familiar maze of corridors where every rat, every goblin, seems like a long lost friend...

So it should be no surprise that I find myself doing the same thing in Skyrim. How many more times must I take that carriage ride down the road into Helgen, and once again narrowly escape decapitation as yet another fresh character starts his journey of destiny?

Sooner or later, I will stumble onto a character that is 'me', the one that I'm going more with than do the Riverwood questions and be fed up by the time I get to Whiterun. That will be the character that I invest a hundred or more hours into, fighting Dragons and saving the world.

But until then, I'm in this endless Groundhog Day loop.

'Damn you Bethesda' for making a game with sooooo many choices...

Paul, I do this with all games, constantly.  I actually think it makes me "burn out" on some very cool games before I otherwise would, because I keep seeing the SAME game content over and over again. :(
With Skyrim, I have RUTHLESSLY held myself to ...  more

You sound like you need a magewarriorrouge like a dark elf beacause they do everything pretty much. Also save your perks for when you really figure out what you want. The great thing about skyrim is that there are no charector classes.

(As a group) "Hello Paul" Anyway, Morrowind I've restarted too many times. New Vegas I've restarted several times too, but no where near Morrowind. Oblivion I never cared enough to restart several times, and Skyrim, while I was tempted to restart, I'm hap...  more

I am very happy with my character right now. He is a sword and shield orc adept in conjuration. To be honest, I've never really used conjuration much before but I am very happy with my bound weapons and atronachs. Over 30 hours invested-no going back!
