SITE NEWS Update for week commencing June 29th

  • Greetings Tamriel Vault dwellers!

This post is a follow up to my blog from last week called Wanted: your ideas for taking the site forward, which attracted over 100 comments. Thank you! It has been suggested that I might 'round up' the comments, signalling where the Admin Team are leading the site as we head towards Fallout 4.

    Front Page Layout

Unfortunately the limitations of the Ning platform means that we cannot do much with the front page beyond adding more and more content boxes (which tends to make it look cluttered). There is no option, for example, to easily delineate between Fallout and Elder Scrolls within the platform. We are looking into using RSS feeds to 'promote' content to the front page. Don't worry about this if you don't 'get' what I'm talking about - in fact this 'Daily News' block is actually an RSS content block which 'allows' only those blog posts which I choose to go into it! Cool, eh?

    Fallout Groups

We now implemented groups for lore, character building, roleplay and - most recently - stories. The latter was as a direct response to response on the previous thread. Thanks for your input. We will probably implement other groups at or beyond the release of Fallout 4, as required, but we probably have plenty to be going on with

    Character Building

Concern was expressed in the comments on the other thread about how it seemed that the Character Building group - without a doubt the flagship group of the site - was lapsing into inactivity. I can assure you that the CB Host team are working very hard to deal with this, as we realise that this group 'powers' the site. The majority of people who sign up for the site, even now' fill in the question 'How did you find the site?' on the sign up with some reference to Character Building. If you have any further suggestions to promote Skyrim Character Building then by all means let us have them.

    Site Metrics

We had people ask about how the site transition had affected the number of people using and visiting the site. Unfortunately, the Google Analytics was busted on the site at the time. We have now fixed this, and I can tell you that we averaged 5607 daily site visitors over the period from the middle of last week to yesterday, whilst the number of daily page views averaged 49516 over the same period. We will give you more accurate and detailed some metrics once the Google Analytics code has been operating for a couple of weeks

    Site Banner

A lot of comments have made about the current site background / banner reflecting only the Fallout  franchise. Again, I repeat that this is a temporary graphic, pending the completion of a site-wide 'Design a new background' contest. Unfortunately, largely due to my inability to grasp the terminology, the launch of this contest was botched, so we will be relaunching this will amended rules and guidelines later.

I hope that this 'round up' shows that we are listening to the views of out members, which we regard as highly important. If you have further comments or suggestions, then please add them below (the other thread is now closed for comments, add all your comments here)

@Mason, I raised the site badges with Emer but I don't think we came to any conclusion.
For the sake of moving it on, can you run us through it again with some more details etc?
