ES CLASSICS New overhaul released

  • Exciting news for fans of the venerable Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - our very own The LordArchCanon has released a fantastic new overhaul of Morrowind over on the Nexus.

Here the lowdown on this amazing project

MNEM is a complete overhaul of Morrowind. Though it focuses primarily on immersion, MNEM changes many aspects of the game: settlements seem more lively, more weapons/armor/ingredients/books/etc. can be found throughout the world, more options are available to you in quests and factions, races and birthsigns are much more interesting, and more.

MNEM makes changes specifically to the following things:

    • Birthsigns and races no longer give once-a-day powers or other spells. I figured that this didn't make any sense, so I replaced them all with constant effect abilities. The new abilities are also, for the most part, much more interesting. Khajiit take no fall damage and have night vision permanently (I justified the lack of fall damage because you never fall from very high unless you are using a jump spell, and, at that point, you have no fall damage anyways), Argonians have permanent Swift Swim and Water Breathing (you can still complete the main quest, but you have to be more creative about it), and the other races have cool abilities as well.
    • There are more books, armor pieces, weapons, and ingredients to be found. You can now find cultural weapons, such as glaives, naginatas, gladii, yatagans, naginatas, warfans, claws, and more. The partial armor sets have been filled in, such as silver and dragonscale. MNEM also adds the books from Daggerfall and ESO, and many new ingredients in the form of animal parts (skulls, hearts, horns, shells, pelts, bones, and more). Killing people also nets you their skulls, hearts, and bones, though you seriously don't have to take them. I personally don't like to rip out the hearts of the deceased, though I am sure the Thuggee disagree (feel proud if you got the reference without Google, but you don't need to message me about it).
    • Some cities have been modified slightly. Many now have city gates, Vivec's faction cantons have open roofs, and (prepare for intense mind-blow) the Foreign Quarter now has an upper level bridge. No, seriously, it does. I don't know what Bethesda was thinking with the Foreign Quarter. Also, NPCs have schedules, windows glow at night, and the main quest brings about many city changes.
    • Character Creation is very different. You now start in the side room of the Census and Excise office, and immediately are able to create your character. You also start with race, so you can now decide what your name is based on your race. You also don't need the papers to leave the building.
    • The environment is much more dynamic, with different type-of-weather effects, time-of-day effects, amount-of-fatigue effects, weight-of-armor effects, number-of-wounds effects, and lots-of-other effects. There are also seasons.
    • There are new basic tasks/really short quests you can do. You can now do the Entertainers thing (I can't believe you didn't think of this one, Bethesda) in any given tavern or bar. You can now order around your lower faction members, if you so choose, by teaching them things, training with them, kicking them out of the faction and promoting them, and more

It's great to see this project coming to fruition! The Lord has been working on this for a long time and deserves every bit of success that comes from his work.
