DISCUSSION How can we make the site better?

  • Greeting Skyrim Bloggers!

As you've probably noticed the site has been pretty quiet lately. The Admin team have been trying think of ways that improve things - but I thought it would be good to widen this out to the membership!

Obviously, Skyrim has been out now for almost three years. So there will be an inevitable slow down in the number of people who are playing and want to talk about Skyrim! There are only so many Character Builds that can be made, only so many Tricks and Tips to be found, and only so much Lore to write about...

So should we just accept the inevitable?  Perhaps archive parts of the site? Close a few inactive parts down entirely? And let nature take its course...

Or, are there things that can be done to boost activity levels? Perhaps there are ideas for content and activity that we haven't thought of yet. Maybe we could broaden the site to cover other games, other content?

    We want your ideas!

We want as many people as possible to come up with ideas, opinions, thoughts and inspiration. The Skyrim Blog is YOUR site! It doesn't belong to administrators or hosts - it belongs to all the members who make up this community.

Help us to make the site better - share your wisdom in the comments below

Maybe as well as putting more emphasis on ESO and Mods you could focus a bit on other fantasy and RPG games? Like Shadow of Mordor that's just came out.

@Paul, I admit I haven't researched other options and don't know what choices do we have. I do know that if we are changing site's name, having to still visit theskyrimblog.ning.com does not make much sense. I don't know if it's possible to change domain ...  more

@ Henson What you suggest is precisely what I'm trying to do with the daily front page feature.
Every Host on the site has been asked to supply front page content, and the only reason that any group or site area hasn't yet featured is that they have...  more

@ Vazgen It's easier to propose migrating the site than it is to think of the suitable alternative platform! Most of the social network scripts are much less highly regarded the Ning, being either poorly supported or open source.
    Believe it or not,...  more

@Ben, I do agree that the front page is a bit counter-intuitive and it might be worth re-jigging the layout to see if it helps.
I do believe Armathyx is going to make a new theme, but I don't know where he is with that or even if he's got startedmore

I think some of the waning in popularity content should be at the forefront to try and garner attention. Maybe make announcements more often about these sections and try to get people interested in them instead of brushing them under the rug.

    @ Ben C
Blogs are much less popular than they used to be. We're in a dry spell right now, either from a lack of readers and commentors or a lack of outstanding stories. I know for a fact that I'm working my butt off trying to get the next installmen...  more

I'm not entirely sure, but there may be ways to offer content migration to other platforms.
However, when the final version of Ning 3.0 IS released, it may be worth it to try it. While the Alpha build we had used was poor at best, the final product...  more

I'd say we have to consider moving away from Ning completely. It's customization capabilities are limited at best. Also, if we change site's name we will have to change the URL as well (because it will look weird otherwise) and I doubt Ning has that possi...  more
